So its not current build, its current design, implying that it wont be changed unless complete design is changed.

Oh, dang, so I did correctly remember it didn't say current build. Well, that puts my hope down, lol.

You can tell that to my 3 Software Development professors. They've told us way to often to forget that design and build are interchangeable. Build 4.576 and design 4.576 are the same part of the development process and indicate the same piece of code.

What are you suggesting? To blindly praise every decision developers make because its wrapped in Heroes franchise name?

I was refering to the fact that you either forgot or did not know the meaning of the current build/design. And you did not take into consideration what part of the development the game is in.

I disagree with your professors, and I wont be drawn into semantics argument on this thread.

I just want to know why do you think that UBIHole will change anything about town windows? Developers didn't say a word about it except to repeatedly confirm our greatest fears. Insiders confirmed this too. There are no screenshots to show how windows look now if they changed anything at all (some of the windows have to be done so close to release). There is not a word from PR people regarding this subject and still they claim to know there is a problem, they just don't want to address it.

From where do you draw that enthusiasm when there is no shred of evidence that they will change anything, on contrary there are strong indication that we will be ignored. Its one thing to hope for the best when you absolutely cant do anything and completely another to just sit and keep quiet when you clearly see that something is wrong and you are repeatedly reassured that someone important is listening.

Because we've been told, by cepheus last week and others, that they aren't done yet and there's a big chance they won't be by the time beta starts. If they ain't done, things are gonna change.
They won't become screens, that's sure now. And frankly, if the windows are done good, I couldn't care less. But they aren't done. That's also the reason why we don't get any screens. And I, for one, don't need to see any half-finished screen.
And as a pre-orderer, I can snow all I need once I start beta-testin'.
I also played WoG with the window-option and it did not change the experience for me one bit and actually smoothed over my overall experience. That was 2 computers ago, but still.

And I like it that way. Threads like this remind me so much of the words of Ben "Yathzee" Crossaw when he said:
Quote:
because otherwise you're only making it to please the fans. And why would you want to do anything for fans? I mean, I'm a Silent Hill fan and I've just spent the whole review whining like a broken motor. Fans are clingy, complaining dipsh!ts who will never ever be grateful for any concession you make. The moment you shut out their shrill, tremulous voices, the happier you'll be for it.

And I agree with Yathzee and this sentiment.
This thread and the complaining thread are perfect examples of this. Where "Fans" do nothing but whine, complain, rant, rave, threaten not to buy the game(like anyone cares) and generally throw childish tantrums.
So when Ubisoft keeps this feature, I'll be happy for it. Because they knew when to ignore the whining of the "fans". And if the game makes a good profit, all the beter.
Cause they are not making this game to please us, the "fans". They're making this for a profit and as owners they have every right to to the franchise what they want.

Ok, we established that in your world fans are unimportant group of whiners or "dipsh!ts" as you quoted.

You, sir, are either on UBI's payroll or you are one serious troll, and Im not gonna feed you anymore.

Funny, I've been using that quote for over two years and I use it often. The many occasions I claimed that fans don't know what they're talking about. And this is the first time someone calls me a troll.

Don't be surprised, your ridiculous reasoning that "they aren't making this game for the fans" combined with the rest of the heroic American pop-movie defence of even the most controversial Ubihole decisions goes beyond the reasonable prescriptions of fanboy-jutsu.
And by the way when the insiders say (what they are being told by the higher powers) that the town windows aren't ready yet, they could mean that not all of them are ready and not that the framework of how they will look like isn't set in stone yet. I know that you and the other members of the "Stop the whining" committee will stay behind the "this is not final" barricade to the very end but it's good to consider all the options.

I can't speak for anyone else, but when I say that, I really do mean they aren't ready. That is, I know that they are in development and I have yet to see the new versions.

That's OK, but which part isn't ready? The user interface, the animated picture, the animations themselves, the default size or everything? Because they could be delaying them just to make the buttons more shiny - with the tons of information we are being supplied with, this assumption is as good as any other. And I think it's been clearly stated more than once that the town windows aren't exactly top priority. Or this has changed?

It's this "optimism" of a few that has created much of the confusion regarding the town screens and prevented a clear voice of concern to the devs. When people reacted to it being a window the response was "the screens are not done yet, be patient, they know what they are doing". When people reacted to them being non-interactive the response was "the screens are not done yet, be patient, they know what they are doing". When the concerns have been confirmed the response is still "the screens are not done yet, be patient, they know what they are doing". It's sounding more and more like a self-deluding mantra.

Yes, it's a work in progress, but the only thing that has changed so far is that the static placeholder picture is replaced by a more animated artwork. And since no one has seen any of the artworks, not even the insiders, we can presume that they are not done yet. This is what has been improved and is not yet finished. I'm not expecting anything else but that to change. As they've clearly said there is much work to be done in many areas, and it's been made abundantly clear that town screens are not a big priority.

And regarding "fans", they are the most important word of mouth marketing means that a company can have (taking UBI's marketing devision into concideration this is something they really need). And fans are not always complaining and ranting. Just look at H3 or Apple fans. They are more like worshipers, and they speak about the object they worship as much as they can, praising it to everyone they know.

Not giving the costumer what they want leaves a dissatisfied customer, and that's never good for business. A dissatisfied fan is even worse.

Oh, swell ... I currently play at HM&M 5 (v 3.1) on a 25˝-inch monitor : 1920 x 1200 native rez.

If what you state is true, I'll need a magnifying glass to get a detailed view of HM&M 6's cities.

Bye, bye neuromantic "immersion".

2D is fine for me, maybe even preferable to 3D, but I'd like them to provide several different size options.  All of us, regardless of our resolution, deserve a decent size town window to enjoy while we listen to the amazing town music that Heroes is known for.

Personally, anything less then half the screen (not including any menu related town items) is too small for me.

The most important thing that the devs can do to Heroes VI is make it well balanced, good AI, and as strategic as Heroes III was....yes the town window is an important debate but it boils down to this for people to enjoy hours and hours of heroes....

The town window is not a very complicated issue, I think that's why it's so easy to react against it. Changing something form window to full screen and perhaps adding some interaction with the artwork is not as demanding as making a good AI. There is no reason not to do it properly, that's why it's so frustrating!

Well, we have another chance to atleast in a structured manner let the devs know we don't like the town screen:
The Beta.

Sure it might be to late for the initial release, but those of us that get in should be able to submit the complaint through that as well.
(as well as of course the usual, finding glitches, balance issues etc that one does in Beta.)

Exactly this. The only real issue is scalable 2d graphics which has numerous solutions.

It's the biggest complaint Heroes VI has received from us, I am sure the devs know this and are thinking about it
