Looks cheap. No surprise there at all. Does it even remotely feel like you're inside a town or you're building something spectacular? No.

Just bad.

I created a profile here just to say this.  Town screens are a vital part of the Heroes of Might and Magic series of games and should be returned in their full glory.  The 3D town screens in Heroes 5 were particularly impressive in my opinion, and I would love to see something like that in Heroes 6.  The Town screens and their theme songs provide a good representation of the various factions and are therefor vital to the Heroes series.

Sorry, I think I might need to puke.

1. The town window is still butt ugly. WHY! In every single other Heroes game real towns have been fine! Why did they change that?

2. The Inferno town is the ugliest in the series. Sorry, but it might even be worse than Infernopolis if it isn't completly unfinished. The whole town just looks like a big organic mess.

However, there are good news too.

I LOVE that there are SO MANY different heroes, all with some unique abilities! I got two favorites that I think look totally awesome: The Warlock and the Inquisitor! Love them!

I'm torn about the town screen. Honestly I like the picture, but I hate how it is framed. This is going to sound bizzare, but I would much prefer that they had icons floating in the picture ala heroes 5 than the way they have it now. It feels more immersive that way. Now it just looks like a crappy town screen from disciples 2. (While a great game, the interior town design with the exception of the elves, imo looked like crap. Especially with the huge UI boxes around it.

Are you kidding me?
lets ignore that there is only a town window. But seriosuly the H6 Inferno town is awesome. Many, many times better the the dread abomination that was the H5 Inferno.
I'm very happy with the inferno town.

That's it, that's all we're getting, a puny little slightly-out-of-focus picture and some oversized menus?

This is zoomed in, not 1:1 (or at least so it seems). The actual animated picture quality can not be judged before we see the actual animations in action (the blur could be just some "heat animation" or whatever). All in all though, I can't see changes from the previous "placeholders" and this means that it looks very bad. This is not a Heroes town screen and will never be.

Honestly, I really love where H6 is going in most of the parts and I think it is the greatest looking game of all time but the town window is just horrible and ruins it for me. I have two big problems with the town windows.

1. Well, it is a window. That is the obvious one. I do not feel anything for that screen. The UI wrapped around it and the adventure map in the background just completly breaks the whole town atmosphere, which has been a huge part of the Heroes games.

2. It is not interactive. I do not get to actually feel like I am inside the town. Everything is done through menus. And it sucks. I breaks down my immersion even more. Sure, I did not click on the buildings when there was a 3D screen in H5 (I did do that when they were in complete 2D though!) but I still had the options to scroll over all buildings and see what they do et cetera.

So if there had been interactive, fullscreen towns than I will be completly satisified and I do not think anybody would complain. Or Black Hole could test to release the beta and see if we get used to it, but I do not think that is likely.

No surprise with the town window. Or actually, it was even worse than I expected. It's just sad, and displays nothing of the atmosphere or immersion of the town. As I've said before, I would gladly trade half the spells and artifacts for proper screens. They could postpone the game for a couple of more months if it means we get proper town screens.

And with proper town screens I mean:
- FULL screen!
- Actually displaying the structures as I build them
- Interactive buildings (in addition to the menus)

I also think, that town screens looked far better, than town windows and I hope that this will be changed(maybe in an expansion?).
I think the inferno town looks ok,but I would have liked to see a comparison between an inferno town, with all buildings and one without buildings at all, because I can't really identify many buildings on this town screen....

So much rage and tension over a simple screen? I'd wait to actually use the screen for myself before I can give an opinion.

1. I agree with almost everybody that the town windows look rather poor. Somehow they lack the dignity and grace of the good old town screens. Especially with the gigantic icons left for the creatures, it seems like it's more of a background decoration than a center point of reference.

2. The Inferno town looks better on the Adventure Map than it does in the artwork. And why does everybody insist on placing eyes everywhere in the demons' designs? Seems like the game's copying some ideas from Disciples III (though I'm sure that the theme is older than that). And that's pretty depressing since the Heroes brand should set trends, not follow them.

Well, they have delayed the release date already (or anothertime), now I hope they will also fix this issue, I mean people are complaining everywhere about this, that aren't just die hard fans who are thinking town windows are crap, there are really lots of people who even think about not to buy this game because of this.
I really hope there will be some drastical changes.

And I hope as many as possible do so in the beta feedback. The rage* and tension is about the aesthetics, not the usability. The only thing you'll "use" are the menus.

As of now it doesn't look or feel like a town screen, it looks more like a pop-up flash-video shown on top of the adventure map.

For me it's reached the next level:
"--> decay of interest"

I still want full-screen over window, but quite frankly, by this point, I'm starting to doubt how much I will care.

I'm far to excited about the things this installment seems to be getting right.

Of course, when I get beta access I will post a feedback and amongst the other stuff will include a request for full-screen towns.
Even if mostly to support everybody who does care. (which as far as I can tell is the vast majority.)

Town Windows are just a disgrace!
I have the worst expectations!
And i do NOT trust the Dev's anymore!
I do not know why they stubbornly stand on the idea of town windows, instead of admitting their mistake, and try to fix it!
Seriously the game is delayed untill september, so it's more then enough time to make the proper town SCREENS!
But they should start working on it NOW!
And the fact that Dev's "keep an eye" on forum threads
just sounds for me as "giving an empty promise"
and i am sure they WON'T do ANYTHING !!!!
Shame on you UbiHole for destroying the Town-Screens!

Most of the complainers are probably going to buy the game regardless,
so I wouldn't be too surprised if they just don't care about negative feedback regarding the aesthetics.

There is not much that can be said about that abomination of a town window that has not been said already.
Main problems: Fixed size(!), too small of an image in general, an unimpressive backstage for Romero's town themes, appears too static, and ABOVE ALL a poor representation of the city the player spends game weeks/months to build.

I am raising my voice of support (again and again) to at least exhaust my options in doing everything I can to actively prevent this travesty.

It is a disgrace to the Heroes name & legacy. And it will be even more of a disgrace as soon as that fixed size square window pops up on my 1920x1200 flatscreen. I bet if Paul Romero knew what they were doing with the backstage of his music he wouldn't have written the score this time around.

And I keep not understanding why Ubihole STlLL does not make any clear statement regarding the possibility that sth might change till September. How many more enraged comments do they need until it is clear that they are moving the game in a direction we do not wish?

The only open statement we have is the following, and it is FAR from satisfying:
Quote:
Now, we were talking about “emerging threads” earlier, and it’s clear it’s a hot topic for the communities, so there may be a few changes before release.

Seeing the changes made thus far from the pre-alpha screening, despite the reactions from the community, I doubt we'll see any major changes. But you never know...

Theres nothing to whine about

Ok, confession time. I don't get the problem

The way that Ubisoft has taken is quite sensible in my opinion.

I am working under the assumtion that this is what you guys mean when you say town screens.

And that this is what you are crying about.

Why there even is a thread for this is beyond me. THE TWO ARE NO DIFFERENT, ABSOLUTELY NO DEVIATION IN CONCEPTS. You still have the artwork, I've read before that in fact there will also be animation, you still have an interface, and ok we haven't yet seen the building screen so far but we can assume that it is close to H3.

Even though we haven't seen the town screen progression just yet, i have yet to be confronted with solid evidence saying there isnt any.

WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL?
