oh NO... so it's not even interactive???
man you just killed me! are you sure about it???
...gosh!

EDIT: i do believe it is just a speculation, it sounds impossible that we will have an image without any interaction and changes.. no really.. that's pointless to have a static image.. anyways.. i am tired of this already.. i give up.. the more i hear the more i get disappointed..

No, not sure. But in the quote from the interview in my last post Max from Ubi does say that only the meny will give an accurate representation of your city, and that some of the main buildings will be visible in the world map. How could you have an interactive 2D-art if it does not actually display all the buildings??

In H5 nobody actually clicked the buildings to do anything, everything happed through the menu. I think the devs are only taking this the logical step further and removing the town in-view, since it no longer serves a purpose. My point is that H5 was a step in the wrong direction here, distancing you from your town, and they are now moving further in the wrong direction thinking it's the right thing to do.

Those words are key, if they wrote: "Instead" I would draw that conclusion, but "At the same time".

There has never been indicated even once from the devs that we will have a dynamic town-window.

There has never been indicated even once from the devs that we won't have a dynamic town-window.

Quote:

We will have a small manu displaying the structures (like in H5) and the town will change on the world map. But so far not a single indication has been given to the fact that the concept art will change as you build new buildings. Actually Max in this interview confirms that this is removed. You don't need more room for other buildings, because you won't see them in the town-window you'll see them in the menu and the adventure map only!

No, you'll see them on the adventure map "at the same time".
He didn't confirm it was removed at all.

Quote:

I, like yourself, want the concept art to be similar to the one in H3, that would actually be awesome! But so far all the statements and screenshots do not point in that direction...

Except that they have stated they were going back to a more Heroes III look for the towns in a much older interview, so far, new information does not clash with this, all we know is that the adventure map town will be a more accurate way to see what your foe is up to and that the new town screen is a smaller town-window.
Other then that, we don't know anything.

"At the same time" refers back to the "new, smaller menu" in the sentence before:
"You can still see an accurate representation of your city in the new, smaller menu. At the same time some of the buildings, among other the unique ones, are shown on the world map..."
They will be shown two places: in the menu and in the world map.

Yes, he starts by confirming that you will not see all your buildings as you build them, to see them he refers to the menu and the world map. How can it be interactive if the buildings aren't even shown?

I think you are overlooking the key word MENU. He says we won't see our buildings in the town window, they are displayed in the menu. The picture might look like something from H3, but it won't change as you build your town, because that gives so many annoying pauses in the gameplay. I mean, that's his whole argument.

"Max: - You talked about the ability to see your buildings in full screen as they are built, and it's true that this is removed. We know that this was popular among the players, but how annoying isn't it with a seconds long pause every time you build something? After a couple of missions you're fed up. You can still see an accurate representation of your city in the new, smaller menu. At the same time some of the buildings, among other the unique ones, are shown on the world map so that other players can actually learn about your bases by seeing them."

Ok, right, lets disect shall we?
"As they are built" =/= "After they are built"
The next bolded part clearly indicates they are talking about the delay between you purchasing a structure, and the structure appearing in your town screen, where the building phases in and you hear a sound byte play.
Whilst it was annoying, I never found it bothersome enough to complain about it, I mean it was just 2 seconds.
But the building itself stays there after the animation is done.
He never said the building won't be shown.

"Accurate representation of your city" is no longer accurate if you don't see all the buildings is it?

"At the same time" implies that both the town-menu version and the adventure map version are both visible.

Neither of us can prove our case, it's all how you interpret the text, the statement is ambigious.
So don't be so bloody hasty with your conclusions!

Edit: Another way to interpret to opening sentance that makes more sense.
"Max: - You talked about the ability to see your buildings in full screen as they are built, and it's true that this is removed."
Try that one, it's basically saying it's not full screen anymore, not that we don't see the buildings.

I understand the reasons they are taking away the 3D town screen as everyone used the menu instead of the actual buildings, but the question is one of aesthetics. People want to "feel" like they are in the town, not look at it from afar.....

Yeah, still like that as far as I know. It's windowed, at a fixed size, to prevent monitor deformation.
If I had no insight into the development, of course I too would say town screens over town windows.

Okey, I think we're getting worked up over what I said were the less important things. Remember, it's the window-thing I'm most concerned about, and it has been confirmed yet again.

I want this thread to be a clear voice to the devs that we want town screens, and not just windows! And from the poll 76% agree. So let's just keep that the focus.

Agreed, I'd much rather have it full-screen, it gives a much stronger transitionary feeling when you completely leave the adventure map.
It communicates to the player "you're now in a different area of the game" while a pop-up window carries the bad aftertaste or horrible internet adds for some and doesn't propperly let the player feel he's actually at the town, more like he's standing somewhere by the front gate, impatiently waiting for business to be sorted.

Also, when you enter the 3d towns, it feels like you're travelling , flying, through them, watching every little detail...
But I'm also pleased if there are 2d screens, as long as they're as crafted as in H3, I can always enter the beautiful Haven, Academy and Sylvan towns in H5 when I feel nostalgic.

By playing the theme whenever you open up your town window.
How wouldn't they have town themes if it was a pop-up window?

because the reason behind the town windows is to save time and if you're only supposed to be in your town for a few seconds then it makes no sense to have a theme song of around 2:30 mins (that's around the length of the town themes in the other games).
IMO the town themes are there to enjoy them not to listen to the first 7 seconds of it and don't bother about the rest.

Town Screens should be returned, obviously!

In my opinion, there isn't a single valid reason to get rid of them and there are so many valid reasons to complain about the change!

Of course they can add an option to make towns window-sized during multiplayer games, but using town windows by default seems to me the greatest mistake of Heroes VI up until now!

Who said we'll only open them for around 7 seconds? that has nothing to do with the size of the thing.
I only spent around 10-20 ish seconds in town if I already knew exactly what I was going to do in town before I open it.
I usaully take longer, trying to decide what units to be when my funds are limited for example.

They should add an option called "Quick-Town-Menus" in Options that, when enabled, does the whole town-window thingy.

When left unchecked, we get full awesome town-screens like it should be.

Awesomeness for everyone.
