After listening to the computer's evaluation of the planet, Arlea looked at her fellow crew members and wondered who might be the first to faint, when the nitrogen rich air entered the shuttle. At least one she thought with a wry smile.

The journey down to planet happened like it always does. First nitrogen rich air enters the shuttle then the entire vessels starts to shake as they reach the atmosphere. Despite being in cryo for 60 years, Hugh was still so used to this way of traveling that he even fell asleep during the journey down.
It was also due to that fact that he was always tired after sleeping, he needed at least one, two hours to fully awake.

The world that you walk out into is exactly what the computer had described, lush, green, warm, full of noise...
And moving.
Small shadows darted to and fro amongst the foliage, and the plants themselves seemed to be moving separately from the wind. It started to become more silent as you all come out of the ship, the forest becomes still.

Arlea stopped at the shuttle's door ...... the air was surprisingly clean, heavy and humid, with a floral scent that was amazingly potent. She immediately lowered the temperature of her environmental suit. "This humidity is going to take some getting used to", she thought.
She gazed at the unfamiliar flora ..... she'd never seen forest like this before. Somehow the trees and undergrowth looked foreboding.

Mustaffa looked around, frowning. "This won't do." he said, securing his bulletproof mask over his face. "Gather all you can carry from the shuttle and then follow me, we need to find a more open area where we can put up camp."
He ignored the shadows moving; unless they got too close they would be of no danger to his crew.

Something massive (that at first glance you all thought was just a rock (including you Kip)) shifted as you moved within a hundred yards of it. It lumbers away, silent striding on what appears to be multiple black legs.
The other shadows in the forest also withdraw as you pass, but you know that they are watching you. Waiting for anything suspicious.
Meanwhile, the alien in the atmosphere curled up and went to sleep, slowly orbiting its home.

There was no pretending, this place made Arlea nervous. She didn't like the humidity nor the smell of the hundreds of various creatures she could sense not that far way.
As the crew began to move their equipment - a sudden movement to her left stopped Arlea in her tracks. In that split second she was prepared to throw down the equipment she was carrying and fire off several rounds from her semi automatic. She noticed a few others had stopped also and as the creature moved. She shot a glance at the ships psychic and Gunroy, waiting for their reaction before turning towards the Guardian.

Mustaffa shook his head. "Unless they attack we will not provoke them." he said. "If there is an attack I want you to gather and protect yourself in a circle, this should be the most effective maneuver within these thick forests. On an open field we will be able to protect ourselves more properly. If we're attacked by a single creature I want you to let me handle it, as I don't want any of you hurt."
Yet. he added, scanning the forests once more. "We will move out in ten minutes, you will have the equipment we need by then."

In an act of self preservation, Arlea maneuvered herself between Gunroy and the Guardian. She'd noticed the arsenal Gunroy was carrying. Plus her sense of smell was letting her know, some of the creatures were closing in.

Mustaffa removed the safety on his knife and gun as he noticed extra movement in the bushes to his left. "Not yet." he murmured as he felt Arleas tenseness. "They won't have time to move out of the bushes before they are dead, trust me. This is what I do."

Arlea put her backpack on and attached her carryalls to her toolbelt, freeing her hands and ensuring she at least could run unhindered. Then she sat down and watched the others pack their equipment, whilst scanning the groups periphery.

Hugh pulled his pistol from the holster attached on his belt. He pondered for a while if he should ready his rifle instead. It wasn't as convenient to use as the pistol, but if used with it's automatic mode along with small bullets it would be a lot better to deal with masses of approaching enemies then his pistol.
In either case he decided to stick with the pistol, besides Mustaffa would hopefully be handling any needed mass murdering, Hugh thought.
He watched as Arlea and Mustaffa moved into position and Hugh simply remained where he was, and a bit paranoid checked that his knife was still with him.

The converging mass of creatures stops converging. In fact, the whole bundle breaks up as you are getting into your positions. Since you were using your sense of smell, Arlea, it took you a while to notice the break up. Still, some of the shadows have gotten closer, and you can catch glimpses of fangs and claws. A few black, red and yellow bodies are seen flashing by, and one creature actually doesn't run as you come. (No pushing the first confrontation yet, guys.  )
This native is black with blue stripes and, for all intents and purposes, looks like a large newt. It breaks off a branch from a nearby tree and can be heard crunching away. As you warily pass the large creature, it just stares at you docile like. It causes you no trouble.
On the map, you are drawing close to a very wide clearing. The tall "grass" can be seen just at the edge of the horizon. (There we go.)

"Don't show your fear, put away your emotions as good as you're able to." Mustaffa says as he leads the group on, casting a glance back to make sure everyone is keeping up. "They have not been aggressive yet and if we are lucky they will not become either, so just keep calm and we might reach the tall grass without any incidents."
He strapped off his energyrifle from the armorplate on his back and removed the safety. Just in case. he thought as he kept watch ahead.

Arlea silently strode behind the Guardian, basically using his massive size as a shield. She didn't like the vulnerability ... the forest was dense and thick with creatures .. all weird colors and shapes.
She could sense the creatures viewed them indifferently, and those that were following them.

As you are about to leave the forest, a small creature scuttles out from under a fallen log, trying to get away from you. When it comes to the clearing, it stops, quivering, and instead belts it past you, running away from the grass (or the golden-green stuff that looks like grass).

Mustaffa lifts his hand in a fist and stops immediately, the group comes to a complete halt.
"There's something about the grass, I need to figure out somehow what it is." he said and looked around on the ground and picked up two average size rocks. "Keep a ten meter distance from me and prepare for possible hostile creatures."
He threw one rock far into the grass and immediately threw the other one just into the edge of it. "Now let's see what comes out." he murmured, aiming his rifle at the grass.
