Fire Emblem IC

It wasn't such a large town. They never were. But it was a simple job, something to wake everyone up and get their name out there... If the group had a name. Alex and Elly had argued about what the name should be for about a week, and not being able to come up with one they both agreed with had just let the matter slide. Now that they had an actual job, the argument had continued.

"I'm telling you, the 'Silver mercenaries' make us sound like second-class warriors!" Alex yelled. A few sheep and farmers lazily and blankly looked at him.

"It's better than the 'Simon mercenaries!'" She yelled back down at him from her horse. Attention shifted to her. Their employer rolled his eyes. The mayor had been listening to them for a rather long time now, and this particular argument was starting to bore him.

"I know! But we can think of something better than 'Silver!' Your name doesn't have to be in it!"

"Why you little Tolerind..." A monk cleared his throat next to them, stopping their arguments. Both of the mercenary's glared at him.

"So sorry to interrupt, but do you think the name "Caton" would work? It combines both of your origins nicely..."

They both thought about it for a while. "Why is her country's name the first half?" Alex asked.

"Why do you have a problem with that?" Elly said smugly.

"It flows better," the monk explained. "Besides, lady's first and all that."

Alex sighed and shrugged his shoulders. "Fine. Let's get to work, shall we? We have a mad summoner to hunt, and plenty of daylight to burn. But first... We have some more people in town to pick up. I think that they said they would be in the center of town or the pub... Elenore, I will check the town center, you get the pub, alright?"

((Just chose where you want each of your characters to be.))

Summer hated the pub.  She was not much of a drinker, and certainly not very good with crowds.  Her sister, however, was almost the exact opposite.  Where Winter went, Summer was sure to follow.

Summer sat in a corner booth, sipping on some ice water, watching her sister in her element.  Winter was arm wrestling, and winning more often then not, drinking..and being the outgoing person she was.  Winter didn't forget about Summer, however, and would come back to check on her from time to time.

Summer didn't begrudge her sister this time, Winter sat through Winters reading in libraries after all, but she did wish Winter wasn't so..brash.

"Barkeep!" Barked Winter.  "Barkeep another flagon!" She had just won yet another round from some macho guy who was convinced that no woman could beat him in arm wrestling.  Despite seeing Winter win time and time again against guys twice his size.

Most females that big and strong had a lack of men who were interested in them, but not Winter.  Her flowing blond hair and blue eyes had guys crawling out of the woodwork to try to woo and impress her.  They might as well not bothered though, she was too preoccupied with taking care of Summer to notice.

Summer herself had a fair number of gentlemen who sought her attention, but with her nose in a book all hours of the day..they went entirely unnoticed.  The ones that were creepy about it, well..they got 'talked' to by Winter..and decided to leave well enough alone.  Usually the broken arm or a black eye convinced them that there were easier pray out there...preferably as far as possible away from Winter.

Summer sighed as Winter got in yet ANOTHER 'friendly' wrestling match with one of the locals.  Would these guys never learn?  She could go toe to toe with trained male soldiers, and not blink.  Summer winced sympathetically as the guy crashed through a table.  Of course immediately after a dozen guys were offering to pay for the table..and Winter another drink.

Rimmer Dall looked at the barfight taking place, drinking slowly from his ale. His eyes narrowed as one of the men crashed into a table and he looked over at his companion.

"Think you could take her?" he asked the other, a tall very fit man. The other smiled slightly, mockingly, then nodded slowly.

"She looks slightly stronger, but I think I could take her yes." Garet Jax answered, having some of his water. Garet Jax never drank alcohol.

Rimmer Dall laugher softly and stroked his beard. "Of course you think so. You think you can take anyone."

"No one has proven me wrong, have they?" Garet Jax answered and gave his companion a dark look.

Rimmer Dall nodded and kept observing the woman who won the wrestling match, she went over to someone else.

Skulking in a dark corner, Al'Quil sat quietly enjoying his drink. Those two nobles who had saved his life earlier had said that they wanted to start a mercenary company, and that they had a group of people gathering in a pub for it.
Al'Quil took a sip from his drink and took a look around the room, weighting the people in it to see how would be best pick for a mercenary company. There was that woman who had been arm-wrestling a bunch of men for some time now, she would probably be a good pick. She also seemed to be taking care of some younger woman who had been reading a book all this time. If these two were amongst the possible mercenary candidates, then Al'Quil guessed that the other woman was some sort of healer or magician. Didn't have the physique for a warrior.

There were also others in the bar. Most people here were workers or travelers. But a bunch looked like they were sturdy built for combat. But there was a man in particular that caught Al'Quil's attention. A white-haired slim man with a smile on his face that screamed "overconfidence", and probably with some justification too, judging by the sword he had amongst his possessions. Sitting besides this man was a black-bearded handsome guy in dark robes. "Fighter and magician. Swordsman and Magician. Magic! Magic! Magic!" Al'Quil thought and finished his drink "Heh. Those brats should be here any second now." Raising his hand in the air Al'Quil shouted "BARKEEP! A ROUND FOR EVERYONE IN THE BAR ON ME!"

At the town center

Michelle White walked out of the Market finished with her supplies shopping. Her backpack was filled with books her master had insisted she take with her, food, cloths and her money and valuable heirloom. Now it was just to find a band of dim-witted jolly adventures and she would be off to bring her name and face to the world!
"But where do I find such do-gooders?" She mumbled to herself "Sure, everyone else are easily convinced fools, especially the common folks, but completely normal folks won't do! Nonono! I cannot travel around with medicore and the average! To make an impression I need impressive companions! Giants, acrobats and the like!" Michelle sighed as she sat down by the fountain which was placed in the middle of the town center "I'm never going to set out on adventures at this pace...If only there was some large organized mercenary or travelers guild that helped kick-start new, upcoming heroes and saviours of the world like me..." Michelle sighed again.

Elenore walked into the bar and instantly pegged three potential candidates. One was the girl breaking other people's arms, another the dark hooded man (The ones hiding their face were always the scary-powerful mages or assassins) and the last was that guy who's life she had saved (No, Alex had nothing to do with it... Not in her books. He had only bribed the healer...). There was one other guy, but she didn't like his arrogant "better than you" posture.

"Ahem. Hello?" She called out politely, so no one listened. "Ahem, hello?" She said again, slightly more annoyed. Still, she wasn't loud enough to get people to shut up. "Alright! That's enough! Everyone, shut up!" The bar slowly became more and more quiet as certain members of the crowd finished coughing up the drink that had gone down the wrong way. "Now, I'm looking for a -" A slightly drunk adventurer bearing the Cordisu emblem and colors grabbed Elly's arm, twisting it behind her back.

"Little girls like you need to learn their to be nice and quiet and to leave us grown up men-" A serving boy bumped the man while clearing away empty mugs. "You little insolent pup!" His death grip on Elly's arm loosened for a second. She twisted around and kicked him between the legs, pulling out her spear in the proses. She pressed this against his throat as he writhed along the ground.

"This, 'little girl', is the firstborn daughter of Duke Damian Silver." The breeder's eyes widened a little bit, "And as such, I think that an apology is in order?" He nodded and stammered out a drunken apology. "Thank you."

"As I was saying," Elenore continued in the now dead silence. "I was wondering if we had any adventurers here who would like to join with me and an... Associate of mine to form a mercenary group?"

Alex suppressed a chuckle as the girl talked wistfully to herself. "Right, enough of the melodrama. If you want to go on an adventure, then hey! Join me and my partner Elenore. We're making a mercenary group of, hopefully, do-gooders who are going to try to get rich and famous whilst saving the world! I think that you would fit in rather well, Mrs...?"

Summer of course ignored the invitation, she wanted no part of it..

Winter slammed down her recent mug after draining it.  "Normally..I would tell you to go take a long walk off of a short pier.." she looks at the guy that had been taught some manners.  "I like your style though.  Me and my sister might be interested..but I want to hear the pitch first."

"Winter.." sighs Summer.

"Save it Summer, you know as well as I we need the money to continue your education."

Summers lips pursed, but she rarely went against her bigger sister.

Michelle turned around and looked at a man who from the looks of it also was from Tolerind. "White," she said "Michelle White, third child and second daugther of Baron White of Tolerind. The best pupil of the great sage Balthal! And you are?"

-This is so boring. This town is so dull, can't something fun and exciting happen allready? the girl complained there she walked down the street along with her companions. She looked around at the small town and the townsfolk rather indifferently before sighing.
-Ah Come on Arion. Liven up will you. The young boy said patiently. There will be plenty of excitement soon enough when the army caravan arrives. But until then you just need to hang in there and wait. like the rest of us. He looked over at Arion who walked besides him looking rather frustrated and couldn't help but smile. Besides, it's not like you HAD to come into town, you know. You could have stayed in the woods on the outskirts with the others...Yyyaaauuch! He suddenly bust out while lifting his left foot.
-Hmmpff! That's what you get for impertinence Rowyn. Arion snorted and walked hastily past the boy with a sullen and insulted look on her face.
Rowyn just looked at her go, shaked his head and chuckled. He had long learned to deal with Arion's short temper and impatiance. In fact the two of them formed a most unusual and unlikely pair.

I am a Signer so, where you learned how to work magic from a book," He gave her a courtly bow and a mischievous smile, "I make my own. Do you know of anyone else who might be useful in a fight in this town?"

Alex heard the annoyed grumbling that reminded him so much of his fights with Elenore...

And saw a rather beautiful young woman being followed by a gruff-looking Roenel archer. He chuckled and waved to both of them. "Hello, travelers! How are the roads?"

"Of course... Winter? Well then, we are making our merc. group to train ourselves and make a few coins on the side. We will also have a few opportunities to meet with and talk to great masters of magic, the blade, spears, etc, etc. I'm sure you've heard it before. What do you want specifically that I can give you?" Elenore asked the two.

"Of course Al'Quil! Just don't gamble away everything you own." She told the merc.

-Hello, travelers! How are the roads? A man called out to the group. As Rowyn turned to the fountain, he saw a swordsman from Tolerind standing next to what appeared to be a mage girl. Rowyn clicked his tongue at the sight
Tsch. Another Tolerind mercenary and a noble at that by the way he talks. Rowyn gritted his teeth and spit on the ground.
-The roads are good Tolerind, if not safe. At least not formembers of the foreing Legion. Let's go! With that Rowyn walked past the man while pushing him with his shoulder.
-Are you absolutely sure about that, Rowyn. He doesn't look like a soldier to me. Arion examined the Tolerind with piercing eyes while talking, Her voice filled with the scepticism infamous amongst her people. Oh well. I guess it doesn't matter. She shrugged her shoulder and walked after Rowyn, having lost all interest in the man.

The crowd in the tavern quieted when something smashed into the timber frame of the far left wall. The second time part of the wall gave way and as man's head was shoved through. The man's head was bloodied and bruised. It was swiftly janked back and smashed through a section half a meter to the right. The plastered limestone between the two holes gave way as the man's head was janked back again.
Through the hole, Golgar could be seen. His muscled frame easily stood head and shoulders above the tallest man in the tavern. His tattooed and scarred green skin was slightly slick with sweat. Rage was easily discernable in his yellow eyes.
Swinging the man by his feet, Golgar threw him into the wall on the other side of the alley.
"Nobody speak of my mother like that!!" Golgar yelled, in his throaty and heavily accented voice. Before the man had a chance to scramble away, Golgar was already upon him. Holding him up with one hand, Golgar smashed away with the other. Turning the man's face into an unrecognisable bloody pulp. The two axes and the bladed longshoreman's hook jangled on his belt as Golgar beat the man up.

Ruddolph of Bodenbourgh rode into the small town. Glad to be in the civilised world again, he rode to the nearest tavern that had a stable. He would be love a decent meal and a real bed for a change.
After propperly stableing his favored horse, he slipped a few coins into the hands of the stableboy to take extra good care of him.
Named Walnut by the duke's youngest daughter, the horse was an all-purpose rouncey. Suitable for long rides and also trained for war. Walnut was one of the few things he was allowed to keep when Ruddolph left the duke's court.
Ruddolph casually went into the tavern to get himself a meal. He still had quite a purse of coin, but if he kept spending it like he did, we would soon find it's bottom.

Al'Quil snorted "One, I never gamble I just put money on myself during Arena fights and wrestling matches. Card games and other such things are both silly, expensive and boring. Two, I would never waste good money unless I had a lot of it!" he mumbled under his breath whilst getting out a pipe to start smoking.

Then the commotion started. From the outside a man suddenly came crashing through the wall and following him was a large green-skinned burly guy who then started trashing the other man around. The reason for this battled seemed to be that the little man had insulted the green-man's mother.
With a sigh Al'Quil stood up and walked over to the man. As the green-skin raised his fist to punch the man again, Al'Quil grabbed his wrist and stopped him from throwing the other punch.
"That's quite enough, thank you! Now it's not that I don't understand you for being angry at someone that insulted your mother. But one: If you keep going your going to kill him and end up breaking a law the guards will be ohh so happy to uphold. Two, watching a man get beat up is boring and my beer is getting sour, so if your going to kill him, chop his head off instead of making it look barbaric. Okay?" Al'Quil let go of the man's wrist.

"A signer huh?" Michelle thought "One of those wannabe mages who didn't quite make it. Tsk. If that is the best magic this merc group had then my presence is sorely needed" she stood up and made a curtsy to the man "I unfortunately know no others who might be willing to join us, as all those others so called "Pupils of Bathal" are too much of big sissies, mamma-boys and scared brats to actually dare travel the world and go out on adventures!" she felt like spitting just thinking about the four others that Bathal had taught magic. Michelle had never seen why Bathal had decided to train others than her, after all, she was the most talented, beautiful and best of the bunch! The other four only was there to escape their castles or because their parents had told them to go!

While Michelle had gone of on a mind rant, Simons had started talking to a couple of other people. One of these Roenel people and a woman who Michelle was not quite sure where to place..."Must be one of the Coridsu breeders, Murdin Nomads or perhaps those Vorrel isolists. Pff, yeah right like any Vorrel would leave their stupid green forest to come out here and speak with us "Barbarians" and "outsiders"!" But ignoring the womans origin Michelle put on her best smile and greeted the travelers, who immidiatly insulted Simons.
"Bloody peasants!" Michelle mumbled under her breath and got out her book of Earth spells "Let's see you be so high when you got mud on your face!" she thought and with a wave of her hand, dirt and mud shot out from the ground and right into the face of the Roenel farmer "That should teach you some manners!" Michelle said.

((Just couldn't resist the urge to show dirt in his face. I don't care if I use a charge of the Earth tome, it was worth it ^.^))

Rimmer Dall and Garet Jax still sat at their seat, the former has his eyes fixed at the woman calling herself the firstborn daughter of Duke Damian Silver. Garet Jax had thrown a quick glance at the huge green thing beating the guy up behind them, but otherwise only paid attention to his water. Rimmer Dall hadn't even turned around as the huge thing had crashed through the wall. He figured the journey could be of use to him, as his learning process had come to a halt the last weeks. He needed guidance and real danger to take the step further.

"Should we talk to the woman?" he asked Garet Jax, figuring the other could have some kind of input on the matter, but the other just shrugged his indifference and didn't look up. "You do know it is common courtesy to answer a question, don't you?"

Garet Jax looked at the other man, his dark eyes not showing any of what he was thinking. "It is your choice, I go wherever I am destined to go."

Rimmer Dall smiled slightly. "Alright then, I'll guide your destiny this time. We'll talk to the woman."

He rose and beckoned for Garet Jax to follow him, the other rose slowly.

-Roenel poacher. The man muttered as Rowyn walked past him only to recieve a blow to the face, as Rowyn flinched, turned quickly and threw it.
-Well EXCUSE me, MISTER NOBLEMAN! I guess having us PEASANTS braking the law and ruin your HUNT is rather inconvinient. Rowyn spat out sarcastic. But for ONE who has never experienced famine but been able to EAT HIS STOMACH FULL everday, our daily struggle just to get on slice of BREAD on our table must seem rather INCOMPREHENSIVE...Ugh. And he didn't get further cause a mudball suddenly hit his face.
-That should teach you some manners! The young mage girl said full of pride and arrogance.
-Oh but you shouldn't have done that, my dear! Arion's voice was both sweet as honey and deadly as poison on the same time. And qick as a viper she pulled the girls feet and pushed her in the fountain. Now let's see whose high and mighty. Arion said triumphantly.
All that could have escalated into a fight, had it not been for the loud birdshriek which resonated throughout the whole town.
-Rowyn! That shriek, it's the signal! Arion turned away form the girl and ran towards Rowyn to stop the fight.
-The caravan! looks like luck is on your side today Tolerind! Rowyn exhaled heavily. Come on, we got to hurry, the others are waiting! And both Rowyn and Arion ran as quickly as possible having forgotten the two Tolerinds completely.
The Tolerind man stared curiously at the backs of the two running, begore turning his attention towards the mage and offered his assitance to help her up on her feet.

((*Sir dragon's pwer play ignored.* @ BETA: A low level magic like that uses no charges and deal no damage ))

They only assumed that he was helping the girl out of the fountain. Well, he was with one hand, but the glowing symbol on the other discharged a blast of magical energies at the ground infront of the boy's feet. ((This, on the other hand, would use a charge because it is an attack.)) Cracks and an impact crater formed where the blast landed, causing the boy and girl to stumble.

"Do I have your attention now? Good." Alex helped Michelle to her feet. "I'm sorry if you found insult in what I said, but to be fair, you did start the pissing contest by making me something that my people consider below a slave. I also see no reason for you to assault me for responding to your insults in a similar fashion." He glared at the girl, "And I see no reason for you to push my friend Michelle into the fountain. She was defending me from your friend. I hope that we can be pleasant from now on?" His voice was cool and dripped with venom as the symbol on his hand began to glow brightly again. "Good."

"Oh, by the way, boy, you might be right. I might not have lay on the ground rollong from hunger. I may not have seen as many atricities commited by your rulers on your people. I don't understand what it is to even go on a hunt, and forests of any kind are new to me. What I do know is what it's like to wander in the scorching desert alone for weeks. What I have seen is my Mother TORN APPART and DEVOURED by demons while their masters LAUGHED at the carnage!" People had stopped on the street and were looking at the noble as a barely contained horror lit in his eyes. "Do not even think to judge me." He walked away, gesturing for Michelle to follow him.

She mumbled remembering those animals she had seen in a circus once "Should've seen that coming. But then again, how was I to know she would jump over the trap I made? Bloody monkey woman." Michelle ranted in her head until Simon was done talking. When he gestured to leave Michelle nodded and turned to follow. However she stopped after having almost reached Simon and turned back to the two "Elos.." She mumbled and waved her hand to make the ground beneath the two to mud
Smiling to herself she turned back to Simons "Yes, let's go."
