Well, zombie survival horror has been done before. But them must be onto something if this mod makes ARMA 2: Combined Operations the 3rd best selling game on steam ? The first 2 positions are this week's sale, 75% off. ARMA 2 has been stuck so high on the bestsellers' list for quite some time now. If they keep improving the mod, we'll have a second Counterstrike. Seriously, ARMA 2 ? Many player's haven't even heard about this game.

@Doomforge, we probably won't agree even after 10 more pages of argument, let's leave it... for now.

Uh... what? I guess you are talking about Normal which is walk in the park. Even during Act III (which is a freakin' war - Massacre score of about 110 kills without even trying hard ) it's not easy to die. I'm yet to complete Act IV but so far it's easier than Act III. The bosses are also no challenge. This will probably change on Nightmare and above but Normal is for beginners, seriously!

By the way Act II, again, is the aesthetically best act in the game - by far! Act III is the most intense and Act IV the most... erm... Protoss...

How's the length of the game compared to diablo 2?

About the same. The Acts have less areas and dungeons but each of them is larger than most of the respective Diablo II counterparts. The tedious dungeons are also far less than before (Kurast sewers... hate that place).

Am I the only one that likes "tedious" areas?
I must say I'm quite disappointed about the lack of proper big areas. The game feels far from epic unfortunately and the sense of mystic is missing completely. :/

I'm talking about unnecessarily large dungeons with boring design and enemies which mainly suck time and are completely anti-fun. For example - the Kurast sewers.

I think it's a bit amusing how much our opinion differ in regard to good/bad areas in diablo 2, Zenofex.

To me, act 1 is the best act, followed by act 5 and then act 4. Act 2 feels too lonely even when playing in a group and act 3 feels too much of a chore.

While you think the kurast sewers are large and tedious, they're actually part of the part of act 3 which I don't find tedious. You can get seriously lost in the big jungle, especially at later difficulties, while the city part, including the kurast sewers, is a place where it's really easy to find the location you're looking for.

E.g. for the sewers, run all the way around with the outer wall. If the way down is not at a place on the outer wall, it's at the centre of the sewers map, which you'll know where is, because you've already run the whole way around.

Diablo II acts:
Act 5(Epic, epic, epic!!) > Act 3 (Endless and awesome environments) > Act 4(A true visualisation of hell) > Act 1 > Act 2(Dullest, and most boring play ever (except Arcane Sanctuary))

So far I don't know which act in D3 I like the best, they're all pretty boring this far. Where are my jungles???

From best to worst:

1. Act I - felt almost like Diablo, but the green fields were too merry to be a place to fight gothic monsters. Least annoying locations except Jail (unnecessary and boring - repeating the same layout 7 times sucks).
2. Act II - Tombs were among the most climatic, but the desert felt, again, not dark enough. Arcane sanctuary & Maggot lair were both horrible in design - corridors were too narrow, some classes suffered heavily because of this.
3. Act IV - It felt too manga-like to me, and death knights felt lame compared to massive, intimidating knights of Diablo 1. But the sanctuary was pretty pleasant place to have a carnage in. The areas before it were rather bland though, and mana burn of many monsters was too annoying for untwinked classes.
3.
4. Act V - I would rate it higher but the plains full of nothing but the same ****ing imps for 3-4 huge locations were ... uninspired at best. Horrible at worst. The ever-present Gloams in WSK II on Nightmare/Hell were a party pooper.
5. Act III - Worst act. Confusing navigation in the jungle, ridiculously oversized dungeons (sewers, also Mephisto's dungeons level 1 and 2 at Nightmare and especially hell) with only a handful of enemies making it one of the most boring experiences in the game. I usually rushed past 90% content of this act because it was too boring for me to handle.

I prefer Act II because of the environment and the monster types, not because of the gameplay as such. For the same reason, I totally detest Act III with its endless jungle and frenzied gnomes that run around you like roaches (and the Kurast sewers of course). Act I is so-so otherwise but way too easy. Act IV is nice once you get to the River of Flame and rather bland before that and Act V is just below Act II in my personal list.

Having just finished the game on Normal, here's a summary:

- Normal is actually Easy, even Very Easy at times. Could be due to the character type (Monk), a colleague of mine told me that he has had some problems with a Demon Hunter here and there but then again, I don't know how good player he is. ;

- Act III is the hardest (compared to the others of course, it's still easy on its own), Act I is the easiest and the most boring, Act IV is the shortest and Act II is the best all around ;

- Despite the low difficulty, certain monsters show great promise to be a real pain in the ass on higher difficulties;

- The boss fights are rather unspectacular, only the last boss feels like a real fight for the end of the respective level (intentionally not telling who he is... yeah, I know). Certain mini-bosses could be more challenging than some of the end bosses or easier to beat than some of the nastier champion monsters for the same level;

- "Normal" Magic items found randomly often have better qualities than the Rare items that the bosses of all types drop. The only really good drop of Rare items for the whole game was from the final boss - sadly only one item for my Monk and I already had a better one. ;

- Not a single Unique item (or whatever their current name is) for the whole playthrough, from what I hear it's not only me but Blizzard mentioned that most of the items can be found on higher difficulties anyway;

- As usual, Blizzard left the door wide open for an expansion. The story is not finished, in other words. The hellish invasions are becoming a bit repetitive though...;

- Speaking of the story, with one partial exception, not a single of the antagonists, including the main one, shows signs of IQ above 100. Really, how hard can it be to defeat an army of demons whose supreme commander constantly informs you what are his plans?;

- Imperius is a prick.

Well, most of those were painfully obvious for a Diablo game

And yeah, I think the leaked schedule showed 2 expansions planned, one each year.

So, what are your favorite classes, everyone?

So far my favorite is the barbarian. I enjoy watching bodies fly through the air with one mighty swing of my ax.
Then it's the demon hunter and the witch doctor. I'm enjoying the witch doctor more than I thought I would. Covering the battle field with exploding frogs. Hah. And I think the dark, vengeful, agile demon hunter fits very well in the series.
Then it's the wizard. Meh.
And so far my least favorite is the monk. Screw this very (in my opinion) disappointing class. I have zero fun playing this class.

This post obviously isn't meant to be objective. It's just my initial impressions of all the classes; with time, of course, my opinions will further develop. What are your initial impressions of the classes?

Having played with the Monk only, I can't really compare them. The Monk himself is 80% Paladin anyway, not really a new class but then again, the Barbarian looks even more copy-pasted. I don't like the concept of the Witch Doctor, reminds me of the pygmies from Act III in Diablo II which - I'd like to mention again - I hate + what was wrong with the Necromancer anyway? I normally don't play with ranged non-magic classes so the Demon Hunter will probably be the last to try. The Wizard I'm checking now, looks casual.

Only been playing with the Witch Doctor and a little bit with the Barbarian. However I can definitely say that the both of them are extremely fun, at least if you got some nice combos working for you that you enjoy.

Btw, female Barbarian, hottest character in the game. What a woman!

The game is pretty much unavailable in Poland atm, it has been swept off the shelves. The next portion is going to be "a bit more expensive", which makes the pricing of this game go to 70$ zone. For a country as poor as mine, this is an outrageous price.

Totally getting it after summer. Hopefully the server stability will improve then, and the price will drop.
