Jay Wilson (lead designer/game director) is leaving the Diablo III project. Likely getting kicked off after all the negative fan reaction.

He is a bad game dev., but converting DIII into another WoW wasn't all his fault...Activi$ion is still there, you know -.-

Torchlight 2 is a very bad game and a pathetic (and successful) attempt to feed on people's disappoint of Diablo3. It's short, feels like a beta version in pretty much every aspect (especially when it comes to balance of skills), has absolutely no endgame, and offers absolutely no challenge when you understand what socketables to farm. It also suffers from many atrociously bad design flaws.
A perfect game to beat in one go and get rid of right after that.

Because it is. And in many aspects, it's worse. Diablo3 at least has those silly "paragon levels" and "legendaries". TL2 legendaries are a massive joke (almost always they are useless), itemization is terrible (very hard to get a unique weapon that is better than regular blue one with good affix for instance), and there's absolutely nothing to do after beating the game. You reach level 100 (which doesn't take very long) using the same equipment you used for the last 40 levels, and that's it. Nothing more to do in that pathetic game afterwards. There's zero need to hunt for items, because items are terrible and don't make much difference anyway. Not to mention there's zero challenge anyway, so why to boost your character? The armor system is the worst I've ever seen and shouldn't even make it through beta testing, by the way.

Hmmm... I never finished the first, so I didn't even look into the second.
After the debacle of Diablo 3, I am staying away from the ARPG genre. I have heard good things about Path of Exile and I will look into it later. I should have probably jumped in the beta. I'm sure I have a key for it somewhere.

If you like aRPGs guys, I think you should take a look at this one too -> Grim Dawn besides path of exile. Looks rly promising, imo.
The devs are the same of the titan quest.
Titan quest + xpack is what we could call a "Diablo 2.5" without ladders and closed servers. hehe

Now that Jay Wilson is off the Diablo III project he admits the Auction House was bad for the game. I guess Blizzard should have listened to the fans on a number of issues.

Quote:
Speaking at his GDC panel entitled Shout at the Devil: The Making of Diablo III, former game director Jay Wilson came out and said it: the controversial Real-Money Auction House hasn't panned out the way Blizzard thought it would, and they'd probably pull the plug if it were an easy thing to do.
Even though Wilson believes the RMAH has accomplished the goal of reducing account fraud (third-party Diablo 2 item trading sites frequently stole passwords and credit card information), and asserts that there is plenty of evidence to suggest that many people do want it based on the number of transactions happening daily, Wilson now freely admits it was "the wrong solution" to the problems Blizzard was trying to solve. "It's not good for a game like Diablo. It doesn't feel good to get items for money, it feels good to get items by killing monsters," he said, echoing the complaints of a vocal group of fans.
The console version of D3 will not have an auction house and will have better drops.

No Auction House (Using Gold or Real Money) for the console. Items can be traded and exchanged in-game.
Better loot, and less junk drops to avoid cluttering the screen in MP games and to make character progression possible without an Auction House.

The console version will also have offline mode, and (possibly up to 4) players co-op on one machine. A giant middle finger to all PC players. Which proves always online requirement was all about DRM. Consoles are DRM.

What a surprise. He left the project and "suddenly" realizes what is hurting the game.
Diablo III was intended to be a business, not a game, just by the RMAH.

It's actually pretty simple - Blizzard wanted to take advantage of the brain-dead Diablo II practice to pay with real cash for some OMG item and the auction house materialised this plan. The broken mechanics of Diablo III related to the items and who drops what however make the mindless loot hunt boring as hell pretty quickly.

Diablo 3 left such a rotten taste in my mouth, I will not bother with an expansion. The game really felt like a step back from Diablo 2 and there was little that did not disappoint me. Plus I have not used my Battlenet account in months and I am not even sure I can access it at this point.

Yeah, I won't be getting the expansion either. I have not played in ages but check on the changes ever so often. Diablo 2 is superior in every way except for graphics.

I didn't even buy the game itself, although I was a huge fan of Diablo 2. You disable off-line gaming, you lose me as a customer.
