i personally hope they will never release warcraft 4 because after all of WoW's lore and storylines, i can only sense massive fail in any attempt to make storylines for warcraft 4. they basically destroy all evil beings in WoW already and have to come up with some new lame snow after that.

the release chart looks interesting though, despite most of it being pretty predictable.

I agree with that Blizzard have pretty much tied up all loose threads from Warcraft 3 like Illidan and Arthas now, but there are still plenty of villians and heroes - both new and old.

I do not agree with that they have killed all bad guys. Those who know what the Warcraft lore is about right now, know that we may soon face the greatest evil Azeroth has ever seen.

Arthas: Sure, he died and they made him into a lame character. But they made a new Lich King, opening for future stories. At the same time, NPCs in WoW mention how Sylvanas is looking more and more like the old Lich King every day. Here are some of the things the Forsaken and Sylvanas do in Cataclysm:

* Mass-raise people from the dead.
* Brainwash people.
* Have horrible prison camps where they test out new abominations etc.
* They slaugthered pretty much all humans and dwarves living in Hillsbrad Foothills. Southshore is now a pile of plague dump, while the town of Hillsbrad was transformed into the prison camp mentioned above.
* They use their plague to make Gilneas into a wasteland.

Illidan: I don't think Illidan was ever really evil, but yeah the Burning Crusade made him no justice.

Deathwing: Sure, he is probably going to die. But he is just being used by the Old Gods. In the new book Twilight of the Aspects, Ysera sees into a future where all the Dragon Aspects have died, including Deathwing who is impaled upon Wyrmrest Temple.

And we still have many villians left: Kil'jaedan, Sargeras, Mal'ganis and other leaders of the Burning Legion are still out there.

The Titans may see the Alliance and Horde as abominations, since they are all part of the Curse of Flesh (inflicted by the Old gods long ago).

We have not fought Queen Azshara and her Naga yet. In Vashj'ir, the Naga own the players in the zone and win.

The Forsaken may become villians in the future, or perhaps the new fiery Scourge.

We still have not completly dealt with the Infinite Dragonflight and the Nightmare, though they relate to the biggest villians in the Warcraft universe: The Old Gods.

The Old Gods are basically behind everything. There is this huge conspiracy where they plot to kill all the Dragon Aspects who are Azeroths guardians.

Malygos already died in the Nexus War, which the Old god Yogg-Saron had some influence in.
Only recently did the Blue dragonflight get a new Aspect of Magic in Kalecgos.

One part of Nozdormu is part of the Infinite Dragonflight.

Deathwing has already fallen and they are using him in order to release them from their underground prisons.

Alexstraszas mate and heir have BOTH died. Many people speculate that she will die at the end of Cataclysm.

Ysera had to deal with the Nightmare in the Emerald Dream, which could not be completly destroyed.

At the end of the Twilight of the Aspects book, ALL DRAGON EGGS are DESTROYED which means that basically, there is no future for the Dragonflights anymore.

To top this, there is this prophecy in the WoW lore now about the "Hour of Twilight". All of Cataclysm is pretty much leading up to, and it is the apocalypse when the Old Gods start to rise for real and the Dragonflights go extinct.

It sort of reminds me of... dragon ball? you know, first villains blow up the ring, then next saga they blow up a mountain, next a city, then a continent, then whole planet, then multiple planets, finally villains can destroy half the universe. It's simply ridiculous that the main difference between "seasons" are the numbers behind someone's powerlevel with pretty much a fixed plot, repeating itself over and over.

In WoW's case: bad guy rises, does some damage, then gets his butt handed to him by the alliance of orcs/humans/elves/gimme_loot clan members and that's it, no cinematic, no build-up of atmosphere like it was in Warcraft III. Nah. He dies. End of story. His cold corpse gets kicked out of the scene to make room for villain number 49328503 with a stronger power level and better loot.

WoW sucks

Arthas was among the more refreshing bad guys out there and he ended up like dirt. Died in a weak ingame video sequence, but hey kids cheer up, we have a new Lich King, with no background and an extremely lame backstory, cheers!

I agree. Especially with Illidan in the Burning Crusade. So you blew a hole in the Black Temple, killed all the bosses, fought Illidan together with Akama and then Maiev Shadowsong appeared and executed him before going emo ("The Huntress is nothing without a hunt...").
And then that was it.
Illidan has never ever been mentioned in Warcraft later except in some flashbacks in quests in Cataclysm-era Felwood and Icecrown.

Later, nobody ever mentioned Kil'jaedan. You would think that when Kael'thas was about to summon the worlds second most powerful Demon lord through the freaking Sunwell, it would have been a big deal. But nooooooooo, it had zero consequences.

With Arthas, they atleast provided an explaination why no one knows that there is a new Lich King. But the Scourge felt weak in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion and Blizzards explaination to that was ridiculous. They basically said that the lasts pieces of Arthas humanity prevented him from slaugthering the Horde and the Alliance... -.-

In The Shattering novel, we get to know that apparently A LOT of people died in war against the Lich King and that the war effort cost a lot of resources. Yet, this is never really reflected in the game other than that there are now lots of homeless people in Westfall in Cataclysm. There is also an unnamed big grave with Lordaerons symbol on it in the new shiny Stormwind Cemetary, so that is probably supposed to be where Arthas was buried.

Perhaps when Blizzard decide to update Northrend and Outland there will be some interesting stuff about that.

But I fear than when Deathwing (probably) dies, that will have no consequences for the game and half a year later, we will be on a boat to Pandaria and suddenly start making friends with Panda people. And Deathwing will never be mentioned again.

I guess it is hard for an MMO to evolve the story in the same way as WC3 could do, but I also felt that Starcraft 2s story was lacking compared to the first game.

Well yeah. The problem here is that in MMO, there has to be room made for players who don't really "exist" in the lore. Which leads to absurds. Still, I see nothing wrong in adding a good cinematic to Arthas' death. He was a MAJOR character of Warcraft 3/WoW and literally cause of many events, and he got treated like some random level 10 Death Knight slain in a PvP.

Starcraft 2 failed to amaze me on pretty much all aspects. The plot, the multiplayer, the game itself. It's just SC1. New graphics and units, yeah, but it's THE SAME GAME I PLAYED 10 YEARS AGO!! If I wanted to play SC with new units, I'd download a mod.. it's free, too

Eh, I'm going to retract my earlier statement.  I'm not excited to play Diablo 3 at all.  I think it's the 10 year+ absence that has eroded my interest.

Diablo 3 GamesCom 2011

Edit Also I think that comming up with a whole new gameplay experience i.e. Inferno play-through is a dead give-away that the game will come out this year ! I mean, why bring this up if the game is planned for 2012 ( after Blizzcon, of course ) ?

I lost my interest in Diablo 3. A simplified game, no randomness to speak of, no modding.

Torchlight 2 will get nice modding tools. It's actually pretty sad that a "Diablo" game looks barely darker than TL2. At least TL2 doesn't pretend it's something it's not.
And oldschool music from TL2 is straight from Diablo, D3 music is pretentious.

Hey, it's Blizzard! They never made a lame game. Maybe except SC2 but it was a huge success anyway

I miss Diablo1's atmosphere. It was the only part where they actually got it right: it was gothic and heavy.

Oh well, I think Diablo III will be their first fail, I actually liked the first Diablo games, Warcraft and Starcraft, But if they don't make my Paladin, how the hell i'm going to smite demons with a great sword?
Seriously the class that has been recurring in Diablo, and Wow has been Deleted? The reason is they want to take out the bonds with old things.
I guess that if I buy it i'm going to try the Demon hunter (if it can use swords).

I don't think Diablo III will be a fall of Blizzard. Maybe for you, personally. The game will do OK, but I think sales won't be amazing. Worse than Starcraft 2, probably. At least SC 2 is an unique game because they don't make games like that anymore (So old-school RTS). But there are dozens of decent action RPGs around, everyone can choose their Torchlight, Nox, Titan Quest, Gothic, Bastion, Sacred, Magicka etc. There's constant competition and while they may not be better individually, they're enough to make potential buyers of Diablo III tired of the concept. DIII won't feel unique, just more money poured into special effects, animations.

Hmm... I think Diablo is mightier than that... I believe that most people haven't even heard of Torchlight and Nox and whatever, but have heard of and played Diablo II.

They don't feel fed-up with the genre cuz well, they haven't played anything similar since Diablo II.
