Charles looked around at his companions. A strange group of people, he mused. A templar, a bird-person, a dwarf... It's unlikely this group will manage to stay together for too long, Charles thought. The templar and Quasu might be of use, but everyone else was questionable. Magnus and Drago didn't look too trustworthy, Darren and Horace were completely inexperienced in the ways of adventure, and Adal was Adal (Charles had overheard some of what had occurred after he went to bed last night). The Sobekan was a question mark. Will we even get as far as the vault? And when we do, what if Zaun has some golems guarding it? A few swings of their fists and at least one of the members of the party would die, and then the rest would panic and scatter. Charles would have preferred to have his old squad with him, but they weren't up for adventure any more.

"Out of curiosity," Charles said to no one in particular, "Does anyone here have any experience fighting golems?"

Adal answered Charles's question by saying, "I've fought one. Swords are not all that useful unless you have a really nice blade. So i had to use my magic to take it down. Wasn't easy, but it wasn't the worst thing walking around."

- I and Magnus kept our distance from the conflicts. We weren't interested in the war. No profit.- Drago said while filling Magnus's cup.
- Trauk tave devynios, Drago! Pour to the top!- Magnus said.
- Not gonna happen. I don't have anymore mandrake to brew more, so we have to limit the drink.
- Bjaurybe nagas.- Mumbled Magnus in the dwarven tongue and drank. Drago smiled and took a few gulps straight from the bottle.
- Plus no one could make a soldier out of Magnus. He and discipline don't mix.- Said Drago as Magnus belched quite loudly.
- See what I mean?- He chuckled.
- Aye, I want seconds.- Magnus gave the cup to Drago.
- Allright, but you ain't getting anymore untill evening.- Said Drago while refilling the cup.

Boolroc was one of the few people who rode in the party. But then again, his Steppe Strider was one the few animals not laden with supplies. Steppe Striders, or Schries Hens as they were called in Nile'Is, were one of the few creatures that were not inherantly frightened of Sobekans and thus were one of the few Sobekans could consider as a steed.
Boolroc was just tagging along for the ride at the moment, lost in his own plottings and not engaging in any conversation. He never got around to pressing Adal's debt under his, now misshapen, nose yesterday. He also needed to devise a way of getting Darren to a Guild tavern or safehouse. And most of all he needed to stay his hand and not steal from these people for the time they were together.
When he saw the Dragonhunters get out some drink, Boolroc moved his mount towards the two. Boolroc offered his cup, which only yesterday was part of the taverns inventory, to the human of the two.
"Pour me a drink as well, will you? I'll get you a nice bottle of something or other in the next town."

- Hey!- Magnus shouted.- The walking handbag can get a drink but you ration mine? Ain't fair ye know.
Dragomir sighed.
- Knowing you, our three bottles would be gone in mere minutes. Also, seeing as we travel together it's a good gesture to share the little what we have.
It appeared that Magnus didn't listened. He engaged in his second favourite activity, complaining.
- Velniai griebtu yer good gestures Drago! Ye try bein' the youngest in the thane's family! I have four brothers kad juos kur! Dragomir refilled Magnus's cup.
- We're famous allright. Just to bad that we usually blow our money away in taverns. Take this and be quiet.- Drago gave the cup to Magnus- Your rants were heard by everyone within five league radius.
- Ye, ye, whatever.- Said Magnus and drank, this time taking small sips. He knew very well that he won't get anymore untill evening.

"Not bad. It could use some more flavoring, but not bad. I'll bet I could sear a Baycod nicely in this." Boolroc said, more to himself than anything. He adjusted his beltbuckle and pulled out his hunting knife. With his knife, Boolroc started grooming his claws while steering his mount with his legs when necesary and balancing the cup on the sadle. Cleaning and sharpening his claws, Boolroc tried to start a conversation.
"When not investing in alcohol, is there good money to be made in hunting dragons?"

- The Drakeshine as I call it is actually a sort of last resort drink- Dragomir said- It has good antiseptic qualities. We use it to clean our wounds when we're injured. Flavouring it would ruin it actually. We make good profit from our trade. We collect the bounties on the dragons and take their corpses. Dragon teeth and blood are valued alchemical reagents as are the scales of a few species. Some species' meat are edible. It's widely considered a rare delicacy. Most organs also have various qualities. Dragonbone is used as an armor and weapon decoration or for jewelery. Some wyverns have potent venom. From dragonscales and leather which aren't alchemically valuable, clothing, armor and accesories are fashioned. Also some leathers are used in making the weapon hilts, providing better grip. My jacket and Magnus's cloak are made from the leather of Great Alpine Lindorm. Tough beasts, very hard to take down. However the clothes are strong and nearly inpenetrable, thus they can last forever. Plus, some lesser species mimic the Great Four((Green, Gold, Black and Red Dragons)) and hoard treasures. However as with every trade, there are smartasses who try to swindle their way out of paying. The village a few leagues before Hiltover was plagued by a Great Bronze Wyvern. There was a shoemaker in there, who used a poisoned carcass of a sheep to take down the beast. I later blew his head off. Forget those tales about knights in shiny armor slaying dragons and saving princesses. That is utterly idiotic. I never heard of, nor slain a dragon which kidnaps women. We once saw such bigshot hero, a paladin if I remember correctly. Mauled by the claws of an Azure Dragon within a minute. And then eaten.
- Canned goods for the lizard.- Magnus said and laughed. In the dwarven army, meat rations were often issued in sealed metal cans. Drago chuckled at this remark.
- Precisely. Still he provided us enough time to prepare a lethal shot. The eyes are the dragon's main weakness. The heart is well protected and harder to injure. There's also a way to slay it by shooting in the throat. But this rarely succeeds. Unless you want to be killed by the dragon's breath. So as you see, it's a tough, dirty, but highly profitable trade.

Darren made a mental note to never ever dabble in the trade of dragon hunting. He was kind of puzzled at Charles' (he somehow managed to catch his name) comment. "Say, Charles, obviously my brother and I know nothing of fighting golems and have no combat experience. I assume, since you appear to be a military type," well, he certainly had the bluntness of a military type. "Have you taken one down in the wars? I assume if we ever faced a battle golem, our lives would beforfeit, no? "

A pile of rags in the shape of a man sped across the road, gasping for air as it continued to run. This man spotted him a great prize to catch. One of those Sobekans, whose skins really are a novelty in the black market, several armed men with pricey weapons, an automaton and one of those bird-freaks that the institution pays so much money for. After twenty minutes of running, he was dead-tired, but he reached the company of men that was hiding in a patch of forested area not too far away from the road. "Barns, we gots ourselves a great prize to catch, sir." he said, while gasping for air. A broad man with several scars stood up, pensively stroking his chin. he heard the prize and nodded, quite satisfied with the upcoming group of unlucky SOB's that were headed their way. "I assume you prepare Garth for operations, Mullen." he said to a man with a scraggly beard and covered in what you would describe rags, just as all the other men were wearing, but his rags had some semblance of order and were most colourful. The most notable feature on this person was his right hand though, out of which seemed to grow purple crystals.

The man with the scraggly beard nodded. The other men took their swords and went to prepare their ambush. They were twenty, not including Mullen and whoever Garth is.

Charles was reasonably satisfied with the responses. So, this Adal fellow took down a golem with magic? He may be dangerously powerful. More likely, he's lying. Judging by what I overheard about last night, he doesn't strike me as the serious reliable fighter guy.

"Fought in the wars?" Charles answered Darren's question. "Do I really look that old? No, the wars ended when I was still a kid, shortly before I started at the military academy. So you can imagine I was taught a lot about it, since it was on everyone's mind... I've never  faced a golem in a real combat situation, but I've had my share of practices. The best way to stop a golem is to blow it to bits with artillery. The next best thing is to kill its controller. And if you can't do either of those, get out of its way."

The Templar seemed to settle down a bit. "Magic works best in any case, unless your 'Wizards' somehow warded them. Master dwarf," He suddenly said, "you and your partner are carrying odd contraptions with you." He pointed at the guns, "Would you mind telling my what those are?"

- Ha, ye never saw proper guns, have ye? These are forged by the gunsmiths of the Black Mountain Clan. Drago's are newer than mine, but it doesn't mean they are better! Me guns saw action in the Unification War, but up today are good as new!- Magnus said prouldly.- This here be me combined axe hand cannon- he gripped his gun strapped near his shortsword. It had an axeblade for a sort of bayonet((see Magnus' appearance))- largest caliber we use. Comes in handy when dealin' with big foes. And can be used to hack off limbs as ye see. Next here be me three barrel blunderbuss. I usin' it in huntin' deer and other edible beasties. Ammo is small version of dwarven can shot((canister shot)) that we use to mow down enemy troops. And me final gun is mainly used in our trade.
- Guns are faster than bows and crossbows in terms of projectile speed.- Dragomir said- And speed in our trade is one of the main factors. The downside is a lenghty reload. My rifle is specifically designed for taking down dragons. The pistols work on some smaller species, but mostly are used to fend of problems.

"Whatever the case, there are different kinds of golems that are vulnerable to some things and not so much to the others, I'm guessing. The one I fought seemed more inclined towards fighting actual soldiers, but when I did my flashy boom boom bang, it hunkered down and just sorta died. I poked it a couple of times to make sure, and it was."

Adal then turned to Magnus and said, "Hey, sorry we got off the wrong foot yesterday, but my head is killing me. You got anything to help recover from that? Or liquor?"

Boolroc took another sip of the moonshine brew.
"Glad you did not take the job though. As bad an idea it is to start hunting Sobekans, 2000 Ducats is a rip-off. A decent fence will pay you tenfold for a single skin. And I'm liable, as any Sobekan is, to kill you."

"Metal?" He thought as he stared at it more closely through the brush. He widened his eyes as he realized they were swords.
Adal leaned over to the group and said,"Ambush ahead. Swords. Might be guns too. Not sure. Probably both sides of the road."
He then leaned out and spoke more casually, "And that's how I killed the elf!"

Initially, I thought that there's a flock of Marsh Wywerns((HoMM3 vywern lookwise)), however after me and Magnus scouted the area we found your kinsmen. A whole village. About seventy individuals. Selling such amount could buy you a duchy at least. We first were met with hostility, however we managed to persuade the chieftain into luring my employers to a trap. And so we did. We led the whole group, about ten men straight to the ambush. After they were caught, the sobekan lynched them. I guess that it was a ritual sacrifice, however I may be wrong as I'm no expert on your culture.

And sudenly disaster strikes

The group continued walking as suddenly they noticed five men all dressed in rags and looking like beggars, well, except the one with the scraggly beard, he looked like a flamboyant beggar. Since they looked like your casual beggars, the group just kept going, though stopped a few feet in front, since they wouldn't get out of the way. Darren tried to be polite and all and said: "Would you place step out of the way, kind sirs, we're on our way to Mansraught." Upon which a man turned who looked to be at least six and a half feet tall when standing upright. "I'm afraid you're going nowhere." He said.

Darren tried to understand what was going and when he saw the other four turn, three of them with swords and the flamboyant one just standing all menacing. "But, sirs, we outnumbe ryou two to one and we have these." He pointed at his gun.
The flamboyant one stepped forward and raised his right hand which seemed to have purple, crystalline protrusions. His hand clenched into a fist and the spikes shuddered and started faintly glowing. Upon this, a giant golem rose from the ground in the rear of the group, if you had any knowledge of it, you would recognise it to be an old model, a war-time battle golem that had some chunks loose around its left arm (the extension of the left arm was a big sword) and was covered in dirt (mostly do to it being buried for these ambush purposes, I reckon.) Despite that, its hull was almost entirely in perfect condition.

The man who seemed to be the leader grinned menacingly. "No, we outnumber you two to one." and with that several men in rags rushed out of the tall grass, blades in hand. Three stayed behind, armed with bows. The flamboyant figure made a flat gesture with his hand and shouted "Garth" upon which the golem rushed into the group. Darren let loose a shot that missed and rushed into the men, hoping to disperse them a little and killing some of his assailants, before they get him.

The flamboyant man singled out Amenta and threw a fireball at her.

The runes along Obsidian burst into life, creating a shield that the arrows shot at him are deflected off of. If he had been in the front-central part of the group then Obsidian would have rushed straight for the golem. As it is, Obsidian was on the left-front part of the group, and his path was blocked by three of the assailants. The Templar drew his zweihander and attacked the group.

The first man he shoulder rushed, pushing him back and almost knocking him over, and then backhanded the man with his left arm in the stomach, actually making him fall, gasping. He attacked another with his blade, swinging it like a giant cleaver at chest-height.
