H4 offers much greater depth in character creation:

*More flexibility in choosing who your starting and secondary heroes will be.

*The ability to create unique character classes by combining different magic and combat skills.

*Far more control over what magic and combat skills can be acquired -- and when.  (No more H3 leveling up where you're suddenly presented a choice between Basic Mysticism and Basic Ballista and you say to yourself, "What the crap?")

*The ability to have secondary heroes do "ride-alongs" gives you complete freedom to quickly level up rookie heroes recruited later in the game.

*Genies are beyond awesome.

*Cyclopses ain't too bad, either.

On the downside:

*I really hate the "fog of war" or whatever it's called.

*Town portal has been weakened considerably.

*No dimension door.

*Character portraits are puke-worthy.

*Map graphics are beyond puke-worthy.

*I want my altar of sacrifice back!

Overall, H3 remains my favorite but H4's unique gaming qualities make one willing to overlook its flaws.

I do not quite understand what you mean by "more flexibility", I mean each might and each magic hero are exactly the same, there's no specialties or anything else that makes characters different than their portraits and biographies.. And besides, you even CAN'T chose what hero you start with, unlike in H3.

True and true, secondary skills in H4 are superior to H3, and besides, they go all the way up to grandmaster, which was something I liked the second I saw it.

Agreed, heroes are great in H4.

Nothing to do with character creation, but anyways I don't like Cyclopses

I love it, I mean, when an enemy walks behind a mountain or trees, isn't near your dwellings or stuff, how could you see him there? Makes the game more realistic and allows surprise attacks.

NO dimension door = crap

DISAGREE completely. Heroes 4 has the best looking maps & the best Map Editor of all the games. The graphics in the game are the most beautiful of all.

I don't

I totally agree, H4 is so different from the other games, but still one great game. People who understand the greatness of it and TRY the game before judging it will probably start liking it, just like I did

By this I meant each week in H4 you have a wider selection of heroes to recruit from each tavern.

And you're right, you can't choose your starting hero in H4.  When I wrote this, I forgot that when I play H4, I normally keep restarting (and restarting) the opening map until "my" character appears in the town (if it's Order, I usually like to start with Neela.)

*Watch what the AI moved? Thank you for the old WoG script.

*Tome of Earth, Earth skill.. Why can not fire? Now Town Gate is "overpowering", "Philosophy of Death" or Shackles of War does not prevent.. balance is made..

*DD? AI? It would also Order or Death.. H4 can be played in a "flying"..

I also like Heroes 4 a lot. Actually, I liked it more then H3 for some time. Reason? AWESOME map editor. However, I downloaded WoG, and then I'm back to H3.

One of good things in H4 is being realistic. Heroes are on battlefield, "no hero armies", in big battles, towers are stronger...

But the problem about H4 is that it's imbalanced sometimes. Look at choosing Chaos creatures! I always choose the same pattern! H4 made big changes, and to make them work, they should've been more polished.
