The main problem with them is even tough they are norse, no one can imagine a fragile elf in a viking town... Trolls neither, they doesn't look anything like an ally to the Vikings.
Either way it's not that hard to make up line up with much less simple humans/animals, tough we still need them to fill gaps.

Core
Viking(typical walker)
Dwarf(ranged unit)
Fenris(fast unit, with party buff)

Elite
Jörmungandr(subterrean[flyer])
Einherjar(tanky walker)
Valkyre(fast moving healer)

Champion
Jötunn(giant)

Not the most creative, but you can fill spots from the top of your head like this, and most people will atleast be somewhat similiar with these creatures.

And this is why people have to think creatively: I am sure that with some creativity, you could make your own version of an elf that fits in a norse faction.

Also there are lots of different versions of how a Troll can not look like.

I think you all should play some Age of Mythology as the Norse faction.

I do agree that foreign names like Jörmungadr might be hard for the american crowd to understand, but you can easily change such a creature into a Wyrm.

Why not? Just put on some corpsepaint and add long ears and you have a representable elf.
(Pretend these guys have pointy ears)

And Fenris is not a core creature.

Goths? Really? They aren't threathening, just kids pretending to be the followers of satan....When I think of a Viking faction I think of the simple character of Thor-like viking, not today's nordac nations with this pretentious black/death metal bullsh*t.

We can change elves however we want, the main fanbase will always look at them as fragile, as they are in popular cuture. No one needs creativity to buff them up, make them bloodthristy, and put some rugged clothes on them, but having Wood, Dark, and Badass elves in the same game is way to much for Ashan's size.

Fenris is supposed to be atleast elite, yeah I know. I originally(as far as five minute ideas go) wanted him as champ, but for the sake of veriety I put him down. Think if it more along the lines of Wolf->Son if Fenrir, and then a Fenrir as a boss creature. I just made a quick inspiration list of how it'd work ok for me.

response to the faction: ...well, It's probably been said before but...too many humans in my eyes. And that is not quite well for especially a VIKING town where you have the full Norse mythology to choose from...sorry, but as it is now, I cannot get warm with this town...

@Oz

Hey man, you suggested dwarves which already exists in a faction of their own as well as a number of units already present in Golemcrafter's submission.
Besides, I didn't know we were talking about Ashan.
I'm not a goth nor a metalhead, but you can find inspiration in most things.

And "X of Y" should never be used as a creature name, ever.

In this case, Fenrisling. I did the same thing with my Zizling.

Anyway I vote for Gullinbursti, make it a giant armor plated boar with golden bristles and big ass tusks.. and.. I don't know, set his armor on fire for the upgrade and more tusks!

Boars are awesome (fact ) but I agree with Nightterror that a regular Boar shouldn't be in a Heroes game, regardless of how deadly regular boars are. (which is very)

Dwarves don't have a faction yet, I doubt a whole faction of them is a good idea anyway, maybe as a part of a viking town(we only have human heroes, so it'd work out fine).
Yeah looking back I kept Valkyre, 1 of the 3 Viking Warriors, the Wolf, and the Einherjar.
This is a suggestion made in the H6 thread, trying to fit into it. I assume we talk about Ashan.
Yes, you can find inspiration, but I don't think those posers are good enough for a heroes game...Believe me I know many of them, I'm not saying they are bad people, cause some of them are good friends of mine, but they have nothing in common with a viking town in heroes other than these "beliefs" originate from Finland/Sweden etc. They think they are badass, and do respect viking cutulre, but they aren't the same.

Yes, I hate these kind of "X of Y" names just aswell, I didn't mean to name them this way, that's why I wrote Fenris. There is surely a proper one word term for wolves who have direct relation to Fenris, but I don't know it.

Fine. How about Vori elves then? They are IP to the Might & Magic series as far as I know.

Have to admit, Gelu is badass.
However it'd be cheap to copy the snow elves(something that's fairly unique) into Ashan, and despite his badassary, I still can't imagine him fighting alongside traditional Vikings. We can chose to make a whole faction of snowelves with buffed up warriors and horned helms, but again, do we really need 3 elven factions?
They'd be all over the place, like dragons were.

I could see elves in a viking faction, not as the forest-sops we're used to, but wearing animal skins, wielding magic and bows and keeping the more 'vikingish' humans from breaking into a rabble, yeah, I can see it.

Oh, and dark elves/drow are an absolutely terrible idea IMO, if you're you're going to give us some nasty subterranean buggers at least have the decency to make them suitably cthulhic. As for forest elves, bleh, if you're going to stick elves in forests pull from some traditional sources (old Irish, old English) and make them tricky, vindictive and actually mythical.

You mean Aes Sidhe there, not Elves.
And that sounds indeed like a lot better idea.
Make them less human looking to boot and we're in business.

The most stupid thing about Elf archetypes is that they do not rely on Elves at all, especially the skill in archery on women who are always portrayed as well endowed and waify.
Couldn't loose a bow string without slapping their chest, or heck... pull a bow string for that matter, it takes some serious physical strength to use a longbow.

A real old school English Long Bow, yes.
But those aren't the ones Elves are using and I know 13 years old little girls using bows, and regulary participating in archery.
Bows are still the most suiting weapon for a woman.

Provided she doesn't have massive knockers, as those make it physically impossible to use a bow propperly. (that is to say, not bruising your chest, it has been done by ancient and even modern female archers, but it's painfull to fire a bow using several different techniques, mostly the ones that involve careful aim)
Did you know the in ancient times, female archers of the amazons (provided they existed, which is an uncertainty) would sometimes amputate their breasts for specifcally this reason?

Even then I'd recommend a Crossbow as more suitable.
Further alternatives include Javalins, Slings or non-direct forms of fighting at a distance such as traps.

That's some nonsense, no matter that it comes from the ancient times (the ancients aren't nonsense-proof at all) - the bow is being bend sidewards so the breasts - for those who have particularly big ones - should be a minor issue at best.

a-mazos "without breast".

There is an alternative theory that states it might have been to fight breast cancer, though the stories indicate only the right breast would be cut off.

Regardless, there are more stories of female archers getting severe bruising by firing a bow, such as the Scythians (estimated 20% of their warriors were female), for which there is historical evidence.
It's not impossible, but it's not an ideal weapon for women.

Edit: Found something else interesting, specifically for modern female archers, you can buy chest-guards designed to combat this issue.
