Not really. The point is that you won't have to get that 1 creature every now and then, which is convenient.

Yeah, I don't think the goal here is to reward empty heroes; I think it's just to make them possible.

okay so the next question will be, what's the advantage of heroes traveling without creatures? will they benefit some misc skills like stealth in H4?

No advantage at all other than you can give an extra creature to your main hero

Which really never made much sense to begin with.  A hero couldn't travel on his own, but he could travel with one peasant?

I think this change is mostly to make the hero an actual entity, rather than a vehicle for creature transport.

It's obvious that instead of using expendable heroes like scouts or to capturing mines having to always find 1 creature do do so can be tiring, so they just travel alone. Because we all know that people will be using that strategy, meaning you create a Hero and send it out to capture mines and don't care if they die outhere.

Heroes without troops travel faster than normal heroes, so that's another bonus. Also they cost nothing or almost nothing to rehire next day.

It doesnt matter wether the hero flees or gets killed either. Unless he picked up some artifacts, anyway.

Also, the pain mirror thng that spring spirits are supposed to have doesn't work. Not the pain mirror o the "also recives positive effects" thing. The I used it on my kenshins, and the only thing I noticed during the battle was that the animation for regeneration (which I used on Kenshin) played on spring spirits too. It even said "healed for 0 damage"...

Pain Mirror, Backlash and such work, but it's only a fast floating number (usually in red/orange-ish color) that is applied at the same time your melee hits the creature (as Kitten said).

As for the Spring Spirits regenerating for 0, well, obviously if they have taken no damage, they would regen for 0 Regeneration is a spell that pulses at every action of your creature, even if there's nothing to heal.

Spring spirits were damaged and 1 dead. The pain mirror thing did not work in that battle, but in the next one it did. Still not so with regeneration.

Is this intended or a bug?

After building the center tower, I was at a loss as to how to put a shooter in it. When it came time for battle, I saw that I could move the shooter in, thus wasting a turn. Problem is every time I fought the AI while they were in a fortified town, the shooter was already in the center tower.

So, which is it? Is the shooter supposed to be in there already or are we supposed to waste a turn putting them in and the AI just cheated?

Maybe this was that half bturn bonus action.

So I have noticed that the beta is at it's end now and the next part is coming when I'm away. I hadn't noticed anything because I didn't have proper internet connection and now it's too late.
Actually I'm coming back exactly on the day when the game is gioing to be released,

I don't know if this has been posted anywhere, but there is an official torrent download for the beta:
http://www.gusf.se/PublicBeta.torrent

It might be made sticky somewhere when the second beta phase begins to avoid the downloading problems we've experienced both times already. It even works now.

This movement bonus you get for heroes without units is a slightly bigger deal than I expected. I didn't notice it before but now it saved my life (ok, my capitol city). If you have two heroes, you can use the secondary to carry the army for most of the journey and tranfer the units to your main for combat only, thus gaining two or more movement points for your main army per turn -out of nowhere. And the occasions when these two points mean huge difference happen a little too often for my taste, so it's importance shouldn't be underestimated.

What do you think of this strategy?

I think it's a nice feature, movement bonus vs survability of hero and as a bonus it can lead to some nice micromanagement comparable to H3 playing with terrain movement penalties with native troops. I also used it to catch an ennemy hero that was (typical with AI) just out of reach from my town defender. So send the hero without troops the closest possible then send him troops . It can also be used to optimize movement and control of starting area (mines + goods) in the beginning of a map thus making a difference in players skills. Chaining is not dead, far for it .

Anyway I wait for the next update of the patch before commenting on many points I have in mind. Still so many (bugs, loops, cheesy tactics) available for now.

question about funny animations

At some point my fate spinner (human form) started juggling with her weapons Her usual idle animation is sharpening her knives, so I guess (hope) this was one of the "funny" animations. Has anyone encountered any more of them in the beta?

So the beta should be restarted tomorrow but will it be just a patch over the previous version or the whole thing will have to be downloaded anew?

As stated here, if you already have a beta client, you need only update it. So it will be a patch, likely a substantial one.

So Beta is functioning WAY better on my new computer. Undoubtably the patch contributes.

But seriously people. What is up with AI always going for the Hellhound and Cerberi first?
Anyone else annoyed about this like I am?

I don't know if it's been mentioned before, but area spells (even armageddon) are seriously underwhelming in this game.

They should just have their spell cost raised and damage increased (so that you will spend maybe half your mana or more on a single devastating spell) instead of being reduced to dealing less damage than fire bolt...
