A couple of questions I have about Multiplayer
Hey guys!
I played heroes 3 for a long time when I first bought my computer back in the good old days. Back then I used to play it with my cousin and sometimes also with my sister (from 1 computer).
So recently I saw a video on youtube about heroes 6 and that made me thinking about Heroes 3 and how much I wanted to get back into it.
Now I have a couple of questions which I would really love answered since I've been away from this game for well over 5 years.
1) How do you play it online? (what do you need to buy and download)
2) Do many people still play this game online?
3) How many hours does it take to complete a map with lets say 4 people (XXL map). I remember vs bots it used to take something like 3-4 hours
4) Surely if 4 people are playing online and 1 of them is in a big battle the other 3 would have to wait for like 20 minutes, doesn't that get a bit annoying? That would mean that you could have a turn once every hour (which is kinda annoying)

if you are playing versus skilled player (know how to stack/move in battle), turns can take up to 5-15 minutes, so it can be annoying. best way to play multiplayer games when you have A LOT of free time.

Multiplayer does not work at all for me, when I go to or host a room at Gameranger, I get DirectPlay error, (Send,don't send error report).

Oh I assumed that multiplayer is a big thing in this game but I guess now from all ya replies :S

I am currently playing campaigns, when I am finished with them, I'll try to get into teh multiplayer thang, because I am able to play more skillfully then.

well, multiplayer is big thing, there are many players on gameranger (games are like 10-20 at one time).
multi games delivers 10x more fun than with computer, hotseat is different story since you are playing next to your buddy and seeing his turns.

well...often there are 50-70 rooms (100-150 players) at GameRanger

depends on settings (template, difficulty, time per turn) and skill of players. If all players are noobs then maybe 7 hours; if all are experts then maybe 12-16 hours.
Most online games are 1vs1 and take 5-8 hours.

I suggest you dont play 2x2 (4 players) exactly because of the much time needed.
You play 1 vs. 1 and if you wish you may put time limit.
Still - it takes time. But you dont have to wait infront of PC. You may do some housework, watch a movie and e.t.
You can also always save game. If its only 1 vs. 1 its should be easy to work out when you will finish it.
And yes - multiplayer is big deal. The thrill is totaly different to singleplayer.
I personaly could never play singleplayer again. Its like playing chess alone. Makes no sence.

I think it is the matter of taste  I love playing tough single-maps against AI

So what would you guys advice me to do? Play vs AI or players? In my opinion 1v1 as you purposed is really boring but you can't have bigger games because that would take days... but then again it kinda gets boring after a while playing vs AI and I think that i've completed most of the maps multiple times.
