Read some lore on the Salamanders and they are pretty much perfect.
Cares about their families and tribes even post-Space Marine transformation, their initiation involves killing a mothaeffing dragon, they go absolute ape**** if anyone hurts innocent people and they value life over frags (LIFE OVER FRAGS?! WHAT IS THIS HERESY?!), master blacksmiths that maintain their own armor and weapons, despite that they look ****ing terrifying with jet-black skin and glowing red eyes.
Plus their chapter master Tu'Shan killed like a 1000 Ork strong assault by himself causing Dante of the Blood Angels to hail him as the ideal that all Space Marines should strive towards... in front of an entire Blood Angels company.
I mean, ****.
They're awesome.

You would probably enjoy reading Salamanders's series by Nick Kyme. The first book has quite an original title: Salamander.
Helsreach has the Salamanders in it. The interaction between the Black Templars and Salamanders is interesting, especially with the Salamanders believing "For the Emperor and his people" and the Black Templar's believing "We could have killed 30 or more Orks had you not defended civilians."

Either one of you could send me their adress via HCM and I can send you all 4 books (not as a present but I think the cost of sending them back to me beats buying all 4 of them dunno, certainly if I would send them to Adrius). The triology and an extra goodies book about the series. I enjoyed all of them.

I like the 40K univese, too.
Since this is a general thread about 40K, DoWPro is a great complex/pro mod for the Dawn of War PC game made by Relic. It's great.

Also, Imperial Guards are my favorite 40K race. They're kinda the underdog, but they're also the most human, too, which I can sympathize with. Karskin is my favorite unit.
Also, if you like table 40K then sometimes I noticed that there is live streams of 40k table matches streamed on sites like Twitch.tv.

I have not heard of DowPro but I did play Firestorm over Kronus. That was a great mod and I highly recommend it. It adds a lot of new units, a point system (for recruitment and what not), and many other things.

I didn't know about Firestorm over Kronus. It seems it's getting a reboot now. That's cool. DoW is still a good game.
I can recommend the Camera Mod for enhanced gameplay, if you didn't already know about it.

Didn't Tu'Shan also thrash the chapter master of Marines Malevolent during the 3rd Armageddon war?
I mean, that guy's got massive balls.

Knowing how both Salamanders and MM regard civilians, I would be pretty sure on it 
You don't ever mention "civilians" and "acceptable losses" on the same sentence in front of a Salamander

Not to mention the Salamander's primarch Vulkan is still alive and he's effing immortal. He can be vaporized into dust and still regenerate perfectly... hell the primarch of the Night Lords restrained him and tried to destroy him in every possible way and Vulkan was just "yeah try harder you whuss" until he got bored and got the hell outta there.
I mean, ****. What the hell.
How are Ultra Marines and Blood Angels the Space Marine staple when these guys exist? Certainly feels like those are the staples at least.
Give 'em a codex :3
Or nah scratch the codex part... Space Marines get enough attention already.

Yes but his influence is miniscule. He is barely mentioned anywhere outside of the Sons of Malice.

IIRC Malal doesn't exist anymore due to copyright.
There is now something called "Malice" who isn't really strong enough to be classified as a chaos god, just a minor warp entity.
