Please help me open the 3D models?

I have Maya and 3D Studio Max. I've tried to follow the Archangel program tutorial -- http://tatooinebase.star-fleet.org/Archangel/quickstart.html -- but every time I open any file I get the error message that the file is not 'id 4' and that it might not be a mesh. And yes, I do also try to open the '-geom.xdb' files. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong or what else I can try. I see in the xdb that there are mb/ma model files, but apparently they don't actually exist as they are split up?

I'm a total noob at stuff like this, sorry.

Hey there, I'll see if I can help you although my proficiency is with Maya. I'm presuming you have installed this Cannonfodder import plugin? Does it seem to work okay? Is when using this that you get the 'id 4' error? Are you able to provide a detailed step by step description of exactly what you do until the error appears? Also, a complete quote of the error might be helpful.

I have not tried importing H5 models into Maya, but if there's a plugin for that format for it as well then let me know and I can give it a whirl at home. Be aware that I'll be gone for 17 days from tomorrow on vacation.

Cheers! M

A bit off-topic, but I see that nobody answers my top-page question...
Is there a way to export HOMM5 units into Civ4???
The only difference is xdb, since dds are the same.
So, can I do it without using a complex graphic program???

EDIT:
The main problem is that almost every dds file has a different parts placement.
Which makes it close to impossible for easy replacement of units.
Like, I just "replaced" a Warrior with an Archmagi (simply replaced the dds file).
The result was hilarious!
I mean, it's pretty ok for abstract units, like zombies or something, but for normal looking ones it's impossible...
Also, I read a bit into those xdb files, and saw that they refer to some mb and ma files that are stored who-knows-where...
Again, the only problem is body part placement.
Oh, I have the dds-to-bmp-and-back handling thingy, so I could alter them.
Except it's very hard part-wise...

Sorry, I can't help with this but I seem to remember reading that there are 2 files for each creature in-game. Hopefully someone that can assist you will come along.

In the meantime you might try looking here for the info or a link to it what you need to know;

Thanks, Markkur.
Except this isn't what I'm looking for...
I can handle dds files with ease - the problem is the 3d part...
I mean, to place the HEAD onto the HEAD, not BACK or LEG...
Anyways, I'll just hope there is a way to export WHOLE (entire 3d model) unit files from Homm5...
Cause I can't find those files mentioned in the xdb lists (I think .ma/.mb ones)...
And I'm quite sure, those are the ones responsible for 3d-ization...

Good luck.
