Kwarc's Towns

Welcome I will show my proposition of new castle to Heroes 6 with heroes and army. I also give theirs alternatives, skills and dwellings. Under this town army I add units that are connected with one of hero's ability.
So my first castle is Preserve. It will be town of Elves and sylvan creatures. General lookout of Preserve is mix of Rampart from HoMM 3 and Sylvan from HoMM 5. Hero's available ability I put in this order:
~ Neutral
~ Advanced
~ Ultimate
Creatures connected to Summoning skills are:
~ Timber Wolf
~ White Tiger
~ Sacred Deer
~ Winter Bear
~ Night Crow
Hero with Summon can call sylvan units, but which stack will join then is random. Number of creatures is connected to Hero's level.
PRESERVE:

Avenger 2: Every time selected allied creature performs an attack, hero will assault the same target with higher chance to deal critical damage.
Avenger 3: Every time selected allied creature performs an attack, hero will assault the same target with even more chance to deal critical damage.
Avenger 4: Every time selected allied creature performs an attack, hero will assault the same target with the highest chance to deal critical damage and prospect to stun.
Gauge: Fills up every time that allied unit die or deal critical damage.

Well, yes. Compare this:

H5 Sylvan lineup:

Racial ability: Avenger
1. Dryad/Nymph
2. Blade Dancer
3. Hunter
4. Druid
5. Unicorn
6. Treant
7. Green Dragon

Your 'Preserve' lineup:

Racial ability: Same thing
1. Same thing
2. Different thing
3. Same thing
4. Same thing
5. Different thing
6. Same thing
7. Same thing

...that's not very original, is it? I can't really comment on this at all, as I'd be just as good off commenting on the original Sylvan. Especially since you included alternative upgrades, which H6 does not provide.

Two arms, two legs, stands upright on legs only, face, no tail. Definitely humanoid.

@Minnakht:
Racial Ability: Yes it's named Avenger like in H5, but it's totally different skill. Also talent of hero's types are quite new. Old creature got some changes like Nymph turned into support unit.
So what you thing I should do? I know you want to see completely new army, but it's hard to made new set of units linked to Elven climate. I firstly think about Pegasus Rider in Elite and Treant as Champion, but Rider will be too similar to Sun Crusader and I think that H6 need true dragon. But I promise my next Town will be more innovated.

@nighty: hush, mylady. He probably just overread your post^^

also...quite a used lineup indeed...but, honestly: You rarely see a very different sylvan lineup. at least the unicorns are out, which IS an innovation that most don't dare, and the bladedance is off, too (YEAH!) ... but for my taste, it are in fact still quite much humanoids, too...

Good, the only problems I have is that most of the abilities are copied-paste from HOMM5 game, put more thought in the abilities of your own.

Druid and Werewolf-shifter? You should put the Unicorn or that neutral deer unit on the Druid spot, and combine the druid with the lycanthrope, give the druid shapeshift abilities or something like that, your town is too much humanoid for my personal tastes right now, only the dragon isn't a humanoid...

I also think the druid and the werewolf could be combined, since the most important thing about the werewolf is in my opinion not, that he is a humanoid wolf, but that it is a person who transforms into that wolf.

I also think, that the unicorn could return,I mean after all it was there all the time and is also a well known fantasy creature.

I also think, that the green dragon should be replaced,a dragon for the dungeon is enough,we don't need another one.The treant could be become the champion,he could be magical or have the ability to attack enemies from a distance with his roots.

Other creatures that would match the theme could be the pegasus or a hyppogryph, maybe with a rider.

A good unit to consider would be the Mantis from Homm4.  Its abilities are pretty cool too, and I could see the large Mantis as an elite creature in this faction.

Because mantises look impressive enough as they are, they don't need funny parts! Other animals, maybe, but not them!

That's why we have unicorns - normal hoarse horses weren't interesting enough, so a horn was slapped onto them. Those eastern fox things got either a forehead gem or multiple tails to be mystical, because they were boring - I took both ideas. But mantises do not need any of that! They have scythe-shaped arm things, wings, legs and so on - any more bling would be just unneeded.

That's precisely why they don't need a revamp. Those hundred variations of spiders all are attempts to make spiders dangerous. Mantises are dangerous as they are, they don't need a hundred tries to be improved.

On the other side, I wouldn't mind some basic recolor + glowing power combo. Additional parts aren't needed, though - the scythe front legs would make a nice selling point alone.

the reasons are indeed completely crap and I think the opposite is the case: spiders are much more COMMON than mantis^^ and even in fantasy many people imagine things as they know it...and giant, and variant spiders are easier to imagine than various mantisses...however this may a bit offtopic...also...allthough it can be a cool creature, I'M not sure in the forest faction...neutral suits it better imo...

Yeah, mantises are cool, I just, personally, wouldn't consider putting them in a "good" forest faction, IMO it goes better with things like Kelpies and Irish Elves and Werewolves. Unfortunately, few seem willing to deviate far from the, to my mind, overly-Tolkienesqe themes of tall, lean beautiful elves, short, stout, greedy dwarves (although this one goes back further), ugly, crude, vicious orcs, etc. Where are the vicious elves, the cthulhic-creation dwarves and the peaceful but enslaved orcs?

All those insects are overlooked because they live in the grass, while the Dungeons & Dragons folk prefers the indoor variety, like those guys that leave ominous cobwebs in pretty much every single corridor...

However, here, we have outdoors factions as well, so those overlooked, grass-dwelling bugs can find a place for themselves.
