Favourite Strategy?

I've got a few.  Fatigue, kill a few guys, then raise ghost to lower that same monster's speed to 1/4.

First strike with Hideous Mask. lol.

Martyr + Regen to protect Angels.

Play as Chaos, get 3 magic heroes: Chaos, Nature, and Death.

Get Hydras instead of BD. Pray that you get cat reflexes, dragon strength, and vampiric touch, these together with speed/haste and first strike/snake strike, make hydras the strongest units in the games:

Attack all surrounding squares
No Enemy Retaliation
First Strike
Haste
Attack Twice
Double Damage (more if u also have giant strength)
Double Health (more if u also have giant strength)
Vampiric Attack

Seriously you don't want to mess with the hydras anymore.

It's hard to secure this combination and to make it work the way you want in battle, but it is nice, especially if you can keep your heroes alive to cast these spells on a large stack of hydras

vampiric touch is enough usually, at least for creeping. though the enemy hero should better not cast dispel or cancellation

hypnosis can be countered by antimagic (nature spell), though I cannot recall if antimagic dispels all beneficial spells, it's been ages since I last played

One of my favorite strategies is Create Illusion (with Genies) + Martyr. As for Hydras, well If you Teleport them in the right place...

it's kind of a difficult combo. teleport + hydras. because you can't learn teleport, nor can you recruit order heroes in the asylum.

Nasty martyr stuff

I would  mention some not so totally dominating tactics, but still great for use.

Life: Martyr to have your squires protect the angels and use the angels to attack your enemies while you keep your squires way behind, plus you may resurrect them later with the angels.

Order: Dragon golems with pain mirror, ward spell and vampiric touch. So in one turn you have a killing machine to use against any non might and non life living creature. (Prey to god the enemy doesn't have cancellation or dispel )

Chaos: Demonology heroes and Black Dragons combination. You can curse or summon, which works great with magic immune BDs, plus you get minimal losses because summons take out retaliations. Just add one fire diviner (for pathfinding) and one warden, you may even add one assassin in case you need combat on the front lines.

Death: Imps plus Devils. You move fast on map. in case you fight against enemies with mana you have almost nothing to worry, just try to prolong the battle so that you can get more summons.

Nature: Summon water elemental, summon water elemental, summon wa... Yeah I know it's boring but against all land creatures they dominate the battlefield, they even have a great melee hit.

This strategy works with life, death, order, and might. Start things off with a lord and level him 3 or 4 times to expert nobility. now your producing 30% more units. now abruptly switch to a tactics hero, knight or death knight whatever is avaliable and focus on him the rest of the game for some powerful tactics. when you and your friend finally fight, your army will be much bigger and better trained and he will get flattened! lol

My favorite is using a split stack of three genies to spam song of peace on hard hitters (or, if they prefer not to move, to spam mirror image on titans), a group of titans to do the killing, a knight to buff them with tactics, and two mages (core is order mage and life mage) to buff them. Ideally, I get my knight to learn chaos magic, but if not, life and order spells usually suffice. Precision+bless is powerful on its own, but if I get my hands on slayer&cat reflexes.... yeah. If no chaos magic is available, hypnosis aimed at a chaos caster to buff your troops is kinda funny Of course I kill the enemy hero ASAP, too, which isn't hard for non-GM resistance heroes, since I have ranged/magic units that can attack at different angles. The enemies are mostly screwed, can't attack, can't stand in place, can't move And if I got "steal all enchantments", he can't buff his army either. Myself, I usually have guardian angel and/or resurrection, so losing something isn't a big deal (eventually I get to GM charm+resurrection too). If I have mass Xward, that just makes stuff even easier. For mass exorcism and alike, well, that just makes the life hero a big target for the casters/shooters

it's a variation on the 3 stacks of nightmares + hydras combo.
moreover it's then easier to get chaos magic (mass misfortune, cloud of confusion, cat reflex...)
you can also have a death caster, well especially if you got vampirism in the mage guild...

oh yeah, one of my favourite was devils + a hero with magic amplifier (in equilibris) allows devils to summon demons twice

The beauty of genies is that they can cast "song of peace" many many times compared to nightmares and that they serve as hero killers if necessary if the enemy doesn't advance, they can easily break the stalemate by producing phantom images of Titans every turn. for 70 genies, it's iirc 6-7 titans per turn, which isn't something to laugh at.

it's quite hard to get chaos for academy tho... and the spells you mentioned are just too awesome to skip them. I'm also fond of "slayer" spell to make titans much more capable of killing things like black dragons. Since Chaos town doesn't really have easy access to dispel/steal enchancement mechanisms, they have to deal with precision+prayer+mirth+slayer+catreflex+bless titans with built-in chaos ward which mop the floor with black dragons left and right

Obviously the tactic isn't too great on a small map since you need three decently developed heroes (levels +/- 12). If you want chaos it's even worse

I'm considering to modify it by getting FOUR heroes instead of three (a seprate chaos mage + making the general more combat based so he can be put in a front row with hope of survival). confusion/cloud of confusion can easily work like song of peace, and the development is easier... but, I guess the problem here is the 1. morale penalties for opposite allignment, albeit genies can cast mass mirth in equilbiris 2. getting a town capable of buying a chaos mage 3. getting the right spells. Also, four heroes instead of three, which puts serious strain on the exp growth.

well, but genies are imba, even in equilibris.

it's weird to rely on chaos spells when playing order, especially when you could have berserk or hypnotize. oh and teleport.

I use them too. But why use one when you can use both

some low-level chaos spells (like slayer) are simply good enough to justify getting some chaos magic on board. Cat reflexes is fantastic too.

Woe unto the fool who dare doubt the power of nobility. at the start of the game 2 quick level ups to expert estates gives you 300+ the ten percent bonus so almost 400 extra gold a day, which is INCREDIBLY useful early game when your budget is so tight. then get expert mining, which produces a wood or an ore and a precious resource every day, setting you up nicely for a quick tier 4 tec. we are literally talking a good week or 2 quicker, and you will have to gold and precious resource to afford it. now pump nobility up to expert, then get GM estates, which is 500 g per day + 10%/lvl by lvl 10 thats a free gold mine. now get GM nobility and start cranking out tons of troops! Abuse all that extra gold as much as possible! Buy cool helpful special building you normally dont have the budget for. buy lots of items from the armory and potions from the alchemist. stuff like that!
