Gears of War

Need some opinions.  At Walmart (that's right.  Walmart... ), I can pick up Gears of War, Gears of War 2, and the Gears map pack for $30.00.  I like first person shooters.  I'm tempted to pick it up.  I have never rented the game.  I do not have Xbox Live Gold because if I wanted to get my ass kicked online, I'll just play on my PC thank you very much.

From a single player perspective, would it be worth the $30.00?

Well first off, it's not a first person shooter ^^

Never played them, but from what I've heard/watched/read and considering that price, it's definitely worth it.

Oh yeah, my mistake.  I forgot it was a third-person cover shooter.  I like those as well.

I picked the first one up (PC) at a used game store for like 10 dollars and liked it very much.  Haven't played the rest, but it's a high quality shooter.

The first one is good, the second one is even better! Best shooting games I've ever played, the story is also fantastic!

I think the map pack adds a mission or two to the end of the single player campaign of part 2.

Haven't played the game though so no idea how to judge it.

anyway, when it comes to multiplayer, it depends a lot on other players. now they have the good idea to not add bots anymore in games (or to make them stupid) so that if you find no one to play, the multiplayer mode is useless.

I've been playing multiplayer for as long as I can remember, but it failed at the only thing which I trully wanted from it, it utterly lacks team-work and team coordination. It does bring enjoyment and a challenge, but I've canceled my Live account, due to it lacking the only thing I truly wanted from it .

Also I love that EA takes the liberty to notify players "game experience may change during online-play".

(It expired and was unrenewed so technically I did not cancel it per-say )

well, most of the time you met one of those 2 scenarii online : either the other people are better and you get owned, or they are less good and they leave the game before the end so as to not have bad stats.

my problem was that I played far cry 2, and I made some awesome maps
(yeah I know, every one claims that his own maps are awesome, but given that I have litterally thousands of downloaded maps on my hard drive, I know what I'm talking about ) but people would never join my server, so I couldn't play on them...

though, it is the exact same problem if you want to play that official map that no else plays. usually out of 10 - 15 maps, there are only 2 - 3 that are played by most players...
