Rioters aren't known for acts of tremendous courage. They thrive through superior numbers. Rubber bullets and gas can do the job of dispersing them, but police avoid getting hardcore if they can help it because once you up the game, there's a greater chance of somebody getting seriously hurt or dying. I'm sure this is causing a whole hell of a lot of economic damage, but I haven't read of any deaths yet, though with the fires going on it's hard to say.

last year, when there were non violent protests in France, the police charged into the crowd with batons and grenade gas and caused most of the damage. well, in my city at least.

Its getting worse and the police are doing nothing.
The city centre on lockdown but the rioters are going to areas out of town now.
They are heading towards my house my friends and I are just staying in contact on facebook to make sure we are ok.
I am so scared.

Arm yourself. Seriously. A kitchen knife or whatever. Plan how you are going to escape the house if they break in and have an idea where you are going to go when you try to escape. If you have family or friends with you talk about where you will meet up if you get separated. You obviously can't fight a mob so your best chance when facing one is to run. Use what you armed yourself with as a last resort.

as much as I hate to agree with Elodin, he's right, the best option is to avoid the riot as much as possible. If you have relatives outside the city, stay with them, or double lock your doors at night, and leave nothing on display.
Arming yourself, however, is not a wise option, as the police may confuse you with some of the looters. If you are going out, make sure you keep up to date with the news and the feeds and know where riots are taking place, so you can shop elsewhere.
Also, the outreach centre I work had was attacked, but nothing more than the glass doors have been kicked in. Most of the rest of the staff are alright, but unfortunately, a good deal of the kids aren't turning up. Journey's end is just down to 3 people.
A few friends of mine in the police have been hurt, with an ex-girlfriend suffering serious burns.
This is a nightmare scenario at the moment, and I hope that it is over soon.

Yes my friends and I talked on facebook most of night till it started going quiet so we could make sure we all stayed safe.
I have posted some pictures but as yet havent been out myself to look. I have to go to town later so that will be fun. They will have the council out cleaning it early I would imagine.

Awww thank you Gnomes its good to know someone cares. Yes I am very tired as think I got about 2 1/2 hours sleep. Rational thoughts don't happen when you are this tired and you end up making a mess of things.
I will keep you informed if anything else happens but hopefully unlike in the other cities this is just a one off.

Well there have now been 3 deaths. Three young men were mown down by a hit and run driver whilst trying to protect their community. They were all about 21.
There are reports that they may have arrested the man responsible.

They arrested 9 people in Gloucester last night.
Just been told that gangs are set to meet in the city centre again tonight.
Apparently last night was a tease and tonight the real thing kicks off.
