I remember when I first played it and how much I liked the maps and how cool they looked...with all the resources and mines and stuff.  It was just a lot of fun to explore and find things.  This along with the creatures and town building makes it a very easy and playable game but a complex one as well.  I started for the cool pictures and excitement of discovery but kept playing cause the game is so well designed that it never looses its luster.

hmm i never thought heroes looked cool i thought it looked crap! But it eventually changed my mind with well balanced sides and by being a game totally different from most others. But i hated it to start with.

play

Hi there!

What is so great with Heroes is that everybody can play, and discover new sides of the game. A person new to the game can have as much fun as a veteran!

Not so popular now

I remember the first time I saw this game, my boyfriend was playing it. It looked very interesting, but I had not been introduced to the Might and Magic series before, and besides, I had seen this type of game before.

An old, turn-based strategy game! lol! What happened to high tech RT strategies? I might give this one a try sometime.

The first time I played heroes, I was interested, but my first reaction was 'no biggie'. I played a few single maps but I found myself far from being hooked.

Well, until I found Zone that is.

All of a sudden I realized that there was far more depth to this game than I originally thought and I began to play it harder. Now, I can't imagine life without it.

Sure, the graphics are average, the audio is... what audio? And it lacks a true, harcore feel that most strategy games strive for. But the gameplay! Heroes is by far one of the deepest, thoughful strategy games I've ever played and if it has to make me think, then I'm all for it.

No speed clicks please!

*smile*

oh, I was just talking about the first time I played heroes, not heroes 3...

very different than anything I had seen back then.  But I always thought just looking at a map of a game and seing the towns and resources and monsters there was just cool...unlike other games with 3-d style graphics or movies or whatever...

They just never interested me...I'm all about playability and thinking.  But I always felt homm was cool to look at too.

Lots of cynics on this board lately...go to sleep its your bedtime.

The Army

My first encounter with homm.. was in the army... by joining some kind of religious group I got access to a computer in their quarters.. .and there it was.. homm2.. Played it quite a lot in those days.. One could say I was summoned there by God and it's my destiny to play homm..!!

To Rex

Rex, I guess this indicates you have to play castle due to the angels and never have devils (or arch devils)?

pluvious the first game i played of heroes was 2 and compared to other games i was playing at the time it really looked bad! Which was pretty of putting you obviously had not seen great graphics before you saw heroes. Heroes2 is a great game but i dont think its cynical to point out the fact that it did not look that great.

I'm not talking about graphics...I'm talking about the map layout.  And looked bad?  No, it looked cartoonish, but always easy to identify things.  More games should consider the importance of playability.   I have played many...many games and some are good and some are much easier on the eyes.  Many are just fun to watch the intro or the action scenes.  But that don't mean squat!  A couple of my favorite games are fantasy general and masters of magic which were not strong graphically at all...

Sorry but I get bored with flashing images pretty quickly...but a nice picture that I can identify lends quite well to why a I play a game...to think and compete.  Reacting and being delighted by moving images and realistic scenes isn't for me.

So the first thing you notice about heroes was its map layout? Im talking about my first reaction to the game i obviously like it now and really enjoy the strategy of this game overwise i would not play it.But compared to games i had played before it the graphics looked bad.
