Battlefield 3

I'm not trying to start a flame war.  I am merely trying to warn people who may not appreciate having to install Origin on your computer to play the retail version of the game.

As I understand it, Origin is EA's version of Steam.  Personally, I do not mind needing Steam to play my games and use it to purchase most of them (due to living in such a place Walmart is the dominant tech store. ).  As to Origin specifically, I have not used it before.  I may have read that Mass Effect 3 is going to require Origin as well, but I don't have an article to substantiate that claim.

Wasn't too thrilled for Battlefield 3 in the first place.

origin is like steam but inferior in every way and EA apparently will remove games you own after 1 year so you will have to buy them again.

Personally I hope origin drives EA sales so low they will go bankrupt.

Shyranis, there will not be a Steam version as EA have pulled all of their games from steam.

In case you don't know (I'm sure you do, though), it isn't available on Steam.

As to EA going bankrupt, I do not want to happen.  The loss of any gaming company hurts the industry in my eyes.

They really had the opportunity to compete with Steam years ago, but now it's become to ubiquitous that their move here just seems... nonsensical.

Origin?

I know steam is not everyones thing, but no steam on EA games?
Also, why the hell would I want to install another game platform? I am pretty sure they are doing this because of DRM or cont-TROLL.

"facepalm"

While we're at it, have you guys heard that single player content in Rage is going to be limited if you buy the game second-hand?

Apparently, buying it used is harming the developers just like pirating.

Lawl.

Like some guy said, next time I want to buy a used Mercedes, I'll call official Mercedes dealership to ask them if they're gonna cut my brakes if I don't give them a piece of that action.

What on Earth are they thinking. These guys are doing more to promote piracy than the entire Pirate International.

Not that I mind, though.

Wait wait wait... they can see what OTHER applications I'm using besides Origin related ones?

Sounds like major privacy invasion. Doubt they'd actually do any harm but by pure principle it sounds Sauron.

That is pretty much it.

My guess is that they will collect data and sue the crap out of anyone found with a bittorrent client.

Just rename all of your game executables to inappropriate names and see what they think when your IP is running things like that all day.

Hmm... yeah sounds viable.

I'll probably wait for a while until EA gets buried under all the fanrage and reconsiders their policy.

...and does the same damn mistake again with another service...

Cheap asses. The counter to piracy is offering a BETTER SERVICE, not punishing the actually honest buyers...

Steamworks WORKS. It took a damn long time but most gamers have accepted Steam by now, but EA just wants us to start all over with something worse haha... ah foolishness...

Hmm... could rename all your applications into "CRACKED PIRATE BATTLEFIELD 3" just to mess with their detection systems ^^

EDIT: For serious though, don't like it don't buy it.

In general people won't give a **** about this and will buy it anyway (especially considering it's FRICKING BATTLEFIELD 3!!! AMAGOD), so I doubt EA will actually back down.

I get dizzy playing FPS games... so I don't really play them. I did like being commander in Battlefield 2 and calling down artillery and UAV strikes on people between bouts of nausea.

Game Publishers do stupid snow all the time, and I'm getting so sick of it.
And since they have the monopoly of games they can do pretty much whatever they want and still get away with it. After all the only thing a person can do (if they want the game) is to either pirate it or buy it.
It too bad that they can't go and buy it from some other Publisher with a better deal. :/

Heh.. BF3, I really want that game, but gotta go for the 360 version, NO way Origion is going to rape my PC, not even Steam are that nasty.

Heck, what the F is WRONG with Activision, EA, Ubisoft?? There really should be some strict laws against them (there are or?, but aint working?) on how they threat their brought up game developers, employees and the the DRM madness!
Im so tired of these three going totally jumbo about stuff and acting like the SAVIORS of the gaming industry... please... Business is cynical and effective, I understand that but oohooooy!
