Thanks so much for the hard work!
I took Forge to a test drive (I installed the latest stable VCMI release) and here are some issues I've found

-Town build screen bug when playing in 800x600 resolution (see the bottom)

-Incomplete message when getting 1st level Forge creature from an external dwelling (it says something like "#!# ...")
-Typos in in building definitions (rectuite -> recruit, Teleporter's definition is missing period at the end of the sentence)
-Zhora's speciality icon is wrong (the description says logistics but the icon is pathfinding), also it's not clear what the speciality does; raise logistics by 5% at each level?
-Zhora's bio is "brak."
-I assume Deyji means Deyja, saw it in several places
-Turret's definition in build-screen changes after building it?
-Replicator, Hero Teleporter and Turret don't seem to be functional.
-Dreadnoughts description says King3, not sure what it means.
-Grail is Cove's Lodestar?

Balance related
-Thugs -> Mercenaries upgrade isn't worth it.
-Is resource tower necessary? Only 4 sulfur per week is required (for dreadnought) and resource silo alone provides 7 already.

These are probably VCMI-related bugs, but I'll list them here anyway (I know, they have some website but I'm not going to register & fill out bugs one by one on their website  because it's too much of a hassle and I don't use VCMI anyway, I hope Forge will eventually be ported to original Heroes 3 or HotA)
-Magic spring plays windmill music on visit. Same when picking a floatsam
-Prices not visible at Hill Fort for some creatures (1st level only?)
-In battle, when you right click on an enemy, it shows the original number of troops, rather than the current number of troops.
-The in-game menus are all different! Especially creature info and purchase screens. Maybe there is a setting to restore the original look & feel?
-By default the game starts in 800x600 mode, but the image is actually stretched on a wide screen. But when you do an +AltTab and go back to the game, the stretching is gone.
-Haste, bloodlust spells don't have any animation
-External dwellings stack unpurchased creatures ever week. Maybe this could be turned off.
-Tavern gossip isn't implemented yet apparently.
-The sound when a hero gets on a ship is missing
-External dwelling bonus seems to be wrong (for 1st level creatures, +1 for each external dwelling)
-In battle, target of a ranged attack tries to face the attacker, which doesn't happen in the original H3
-In battle can't view enemy hero's stats
-In battle, moving the cursor on Heroes doesn't change the cursor
-Elementals are summoned at the wrong position in cache battles.
-AI doesn't retreat when it should
-World map play feels very clunky in VCMI:
-When another player is eliminated because 7 days passed without holding a castle, it says "Blue, your heroes..."
-A never-visited (by that hero) witch hut can say "Witch Hut (Already Learned)"; doesn't tell which skill tough
-AI is too weak.
1. The animation speed/timing (especially for heroes in world map view, and in-battle magic) feel quite off from the original game.
2. Screen scroll is a bit clumsy when the mouse goes off screen, sometimes it doesn't scroll at all, sometimes scroll stops at the middle etc. You have to move the mouse slowly and carefully on the direction you want to scroll.
3. Can't control mouse when the hero is moving

Due to silence in DF2 and Feanor doing something other, there will be no ERA Forge in near future. Maybe HOTA crew fought over graphic assets IMHO.

Hi!

I've been following news on the Forge ever since I first heard about the lost faction a few years ago. I've been playing Heroes of Might and Magic III since 1999 and I was thrilled to hear that a faction like the Forge was being worked on.

So, after a lot of hassle, I managed to get VCMI and the Forge working. For the most part, the faction indeed works but like you've stated, there are problems with both the Forge and VCMI still. I am aware how tricky it is to program this kind of stuff and I'm really grateful for the team's efforts.

To add a few issues I discovered:

-Roost/Arsenal (building add-on which is supposed to increase the number of recruitable jump soldiers/troopers by one per week) doesn't seem to work for me. When viewing the juggernaut unit icon on the town screen, it shows the building adding +0 to juggernauts/dreadnoughts.

-Turret does work, but only if you have upgraded thugs into mercenaries. Otherwise it is useless. Also the description for the building talks about recruits, not thugs/mercenaries.

-The first selectable hero for the Forge, with the specialty for jump soldiers, the bonus is not displayed, leaving me puzzled over how his speciality benefits these troops.

I will see if I see more issues popping up. The Forge is definitely fun to play, don't get me wrong. With these fixes it'll become even more enjoyable to play with

Yes, that's bad, especially if we look at Forge creatures made by alex-ander.... I mean, I'm not complaining over the amount of Forge towns, because having single, fully developed one is a success and a great event after all those years, but It'd be just cool for fans to see another Forge. The more Forge towns, the better.

It means that it's target for creatures with expert Slayer effect.

This marker was originally used in crtraits.txt and ERM, so we left it. If you have an idea for alternate name, let us know

i thought that the people(bersy and possibly others?) who made Era and members of the HotA crew were the same people. was i mistaken?

i just got back from df2, and man, does the news that another Forge may have been thwarted put a whole toilet full of diarrhea in my oatmeal. there's so many people coming out with such awesome stuff for Forge, i can't keep up. i'm months behind. i keep seeing so many different creatures/iterations available for it, i'm like a kid in a candy store. i want it all, to stuff my face until i'm bloated and diabetic. having the first complete Forge come out just whetted my appetite for everything Forge. i've been busy preparing to replace my Stronghold. got the hero avatars made yesterday, and this morning i got all the twcrport and cprsmall defs made and ready to go(plus or minus a tweak or two to a couple defs). i was online searching for what building belonged to what creature, when i stumbled across the latest ongoing work from another team.

i just really, sincerely hope that all the resources will be available. there is INCREDIBLY talented work just sitting around somewhere, waiting to be revealed in all it's brilliance. i'd hate to see any such brilliance go to waste, for whatever reason.

i didn't state "awesome NEW stuff", i only stated "awesome stuff". i'm talking about all of the ongoing Forge work by various people(which is all awesome, imo). what i found of the "latest ongoing work from another team" was released back in April. when i said "latest", i only meant what i've just found, not anything new for others. i'm a little behind the curve, regarding Forge. sorry if i led to believe otherwise. that wasn't the point of that post anyway.

the point of that post(in response to the possibility of other Forge resources being lost through discontinuation or whatever), was that if anyone who is continually working on Forge stops production, i'd much rather see that the resources didn't go to waste.

fred79, if you want, you can use cyber deads that I made several years ago. They are not not even close to the quality presented in recent downloadable Forge, yet I made them as close to the original concept as it was possible (including my personal experience and graphic skills, heh). I had both upgraded and not upgraded version of these creatures, however cyber deads was made completely by me and cyber zombies were created mostly by another team member of my old team (his nick was znajomy as I remember), but I helped him and circa 40% of the whole work on cyber zombies were made by me.

Those creatures can still be on my old pendrive, but I think they are on the Acid Cave as well. I don't know how big those pacmages are, so I can't tell if there is something more than .def file of each unit presenting their animations on the battlefield. If I remember correctly I had full animations of those creatures both on the battlefield and on the map, including their portraits. When I return from vacations I can check out my pendrive, so I can tell you what I have (if you are interested, of course).

@ haregar: i already have them in my lineup, i made the twcrport and cprsmall files for them too. i think i downloaded them from Acid Cave. could you post a screen of the versions you made, that may or may not be on Acid Cave?

now that the VCMI team came out with a working version of Forge, this thread should be stickied for posterity. and i recommend a qp for everyone that was involved in it's creation, as well.

no, it wasnt supposed to be slower. it doesnt make sense. the units were supposed to be tougher but very much more expensive. so much expensive that even lvl 6 unit would cost precious resources.
