Heroes: What's your favorite h4 class ??

Hi, all,

Inspired by the thread, "Heroes: A Force to be Reckoned With", I make this one.

Now we know that there are probably 37 hero classes in h4 depending on your skill combinations e.g. tactic + combat = General. So, I wonder what's your favourite class of h4 heroes. What do you think will be an interesting combination, the most fun to use, the most deadly skill combo ?????

Any wild guess, reasonable analysis or crazy ideas are welcome.

(sorry, Oldtimer, I've stolen your idea )

Well I really like the Tactics and Life Primary skills so I will most likely choose them no matter what heroes I will start with. Except when playing Necro, I'll pick Nature over Life.

Nature - Life - Tactics is what I am going to try first and foremost! Summoning from Nature skill, Life skill will keep them alive and ward off that killer Banish spell from the Order skill, and Tactics will make everything you summon stronger and work for you!

Archer with their starting Combat skill may take a twist to develop. Perhaps Combat - Nature - Tactics. This may work really well if the Life library costs a fortune and Life spells are hard to find.

Go Preserve!

Hmm, good picks, DVZ.

I like some strange stuff. So maybe I
will go for Ninja: Scouting + death

GM stealth = sudden death of the enemy
heroes........sounds fun........

How about scouting + combat + death i.e. mix
of Ninja + assasin..........

Interesting Though Process, Thunderknight

How can I not post on this thread?

Well, it seems as though there are boundless combinations on Hero classes in Heroes IV, but when it comes down to it, your best bet is to choose the skills which have the most relevance in the map, and to the opponents chances of losing. Hero classes, I think add a small amount of meaning, if you like to the skills which only preciously meant being better at a certain aspect of the game. It means a different picture on the battlfield, and now, if some skills are at the same level, there is the ability to change the class that you are currently in, to suit the way of gameplay you like. Although experience can be limited at times, hero skills and a particular hero's personality.

Certainly, many people would enjoy this change, as in every series, the picture has stayed the same, and now, two great things have changed the heros inportance in the game.
Although the hero classes are infact restricted to a certain degree, as some classes require skills from an enemy alignment, it is not possible to use them, it still offers a wide range of hero classes.
I believe that all classes have a point where they work best, nad where they function worst. Such as, Nobility and Order, most commonly associated with the Academy town, may have certain aspects which will make the kingdom run in unsion. If this particular skill combination was used in the Necropolis town, the same linked effects will not occur, as the Academy as many bonuses which have to do with those and similar skills.

Heroes and the combination of skills I wish to have even a slight impact on the game are:
Warlock: Should prove pretty powerful with its combination of Chaos and Nature.
Others:
Witch King
Wizard King
Assassin
Reaver
Special Class: ArchMage
This one, I hope proves to be a standout, since it, in 3DO's eyes, deserves a whole special class.
Ninja
Green Knight looks like the natural equivalent of a Paladin. I think this one may be one of the stronger classes.
Dark Lord looks interesting
Thats just what I can remember from the top of my head of being the 'promising' classes, as for some reason I cannot access the table in which the information was held.
{Edited}

I don't know

I'll have to wait until I try out every last one of them before I pass judgment on which I like best, because every one of them will be worth a try. Guildmaster will be the strangest of all, I think: no combat-related skills, just Scouting and Nobility - will it be good to have one of these in every kingdom, or are you better off splitting the skills among two more combat-suitable heroes (both Scouting and Nobility will be very important)? Or do these skills get relegated to the leaders of lesser armies?

Warden seems to be a nice class.
Summoner is also one i want to give a shot at.

I'll surely give academy a try first(cuz titan always been my favorite creature) but i'm really looking forward to see what Preserve has to offer.

Life and Nature(resurrection and summoning) seems to be one of the best combo.Sure need a L/XL map to build both skills to a nice level (since i dont plan to have one single party able to fight),but once you reach GM summoning and GM resurrection, you get two very good skills, large party and not many losses.Plus magics are based on big numbers and protections.

We'll see how good it is.

My favorite Basic Hero Class, is, naturally, the Sorcerer.

I guess my favorite Advanced class comes down to either the Warlock or the Witch King. The Witch King would certainly come in handy with the estates and mining skills, giving a fair amount of extra resources which would aid in Dragon production.

I suppose I plan to have at least these two Heroes, always:

Xenophanes, as a Warlock, and Mutare, as a Witch Queen. (I expect that the King changes to fit the gender)

So, pretty much, here's my dream army:

Xenophanes the Warlock, Black Dragons, Nightmares, Efreet, Medusas, Minotaurs, and Mutare the Witch Queen.

Two Heroes is definitely the way to go. One to cast spells, and one to basically use as an extra Level 4 Creature, becaus not only would the second hero be like that, but would continue to gain levels and stats, therefore perhaps givng it the oppurtinity to become something of a level 5 or 6 creature.

Duuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrr!

Of course I know that! I'm just saying what my dream army would be - if I could have any creatures I wanted in it. So basically, if I were setting up a dream army, I'd either do it in the Map Editor, or with two different castles. That's all I meant.

Money makes the world go around

The Warlord is unavoidable: Being born a Barbarian - you die a Barbarian. And living like a Barbarian you develop your Combat skill. Unfortunately (and hopefully not) you need to develop Nobility in order to afford all those nice extra troops you get - so Warlord it must be (even though those +5 Melee sucks!!!)

Of course a genuine Barbarian goes for the General (even though it is much against his nature to let himself be called General) and let the Tactics skill boost the effiency of his troops. +1 Morale can turn out to be far better than those Melee points.

As I se the bonus for advanced hero class , they are just bonuses. Very few of them looks like a goal in them self.
Lets face it, 1 skill level in many cases does the same impact as the bonus! So I expect the strategy choises of skills to dominate in the long run, not the bonuses!

A few exceptions I can see is Fireguard! (immume to fire magic and 1/2 damage from fire based attacks!)
Chaos and combat skills to the combo of Armargedon, black dragons and efreets. A hero wanting to mess with armageddon , wants to be able to withstand the damage. And combat skills (including resistance) would make him survive longer on the battle field.

Another is Heretic! Chaos + life  (ignores all wards). Nice if the chaos damage spells can target every one! So we might see someone take life magic even without access to life spells!

Monk (chaos ward) and Paladin (death ward) would have there uses too.

One I am still looking at is wizard (cost of all spells -2) (chaos and order) This might be worth to develop even with only access to one of the magic schools! But it offcause depends upun whats the lowest cost of spells!

Dark priest (vampirism, life + death), Lich( age attack chaos + death) I assume is not good enough as others have noticed to, because the skill involved is not combat related! I expects such skills to only work in close combat and then the hero wants combat skills! But if he gets to much progress in combat he is not a lich or a dark priest any more!

Still to see is how important is the new luck and the morale! Some of the bonus might be nice, but leaderships adds +1 luck and + 1 moral for each skill level. So again I expect the skills to be the reason to choose, and not the bonuses!

Is there anyone there have spotted other advanced hero class, there might be worth develop, more for the bonus than the skills, please post then!

With regards
Jondifool!

I personally think that the Warlock and Witch King classes are pretty good...especially if you are Asylum and need money for your Black Dragons, the Witch King is the way to go.

I like the bard class, they have always max luck, meaning they will always get as less damage as possible. Also stealth is really great, did you know a hero gains XP-points when they stay undetected when standing next to a creature? This means they will advance in level really quickly without having to fight, also nature magic is really useful too.

Bard. I like the Nature heroes most. I wish each class was more unique than it actually was though.. There should be more than just 1 class ability to distinguish each advanced class.. They should have at least 3.

Honestly though, I can't tell the difference between the classes without checking them up. I refer to the manual quite a lot.

I can't really comment much on strategies since each hero is pretty similar anyway. I like to have Life Magic for the healing and Chaos Magic for the damage spells. Necromancy doesn't do it for me.
