Quote: Aesthetic is also subject to interpretations. For example, I find that Fnord erm codes are beautiful (organized, explained), so as compliment I would call him an artist. It is meant as compliment, not as statement. Same thing for soccer players, we often call them artists, but only as compliment.
Is any application of creativity artistic, do you think?

Maybe, when you get a trivial tool then achieve an outstanding result with, you can call it art. By outstanding I mean outstanding, not our every day cup of tea, the thing in front of which professionals say: woah, wish I could!

I think he emphasizes that the word has more than one meaning. The usage of the word in A Brief History of 18th century Art and the Art of Olive Oil Cooking refers to very different concepts.

Well, ERM is a very trivial and ugly thing. I spent months of my life reading others ugly and incomprehensible codes, but every time I read Fnord ones, I forget it is so ugly by default. He did not code only, he draw them.

If he used other intuitive capacities than simple intelligence and memory, could be an artist. As compliment of course

Aren't intuitive capacities a result of our intelligence and memory. The difference is they are experience based rather than analysis.

Again - "I could become a millionaire, but I didn't know how".
Actually while staring at this picture I realised I was seeing:
1. Two blue rectangles
2. Two blue rectangular lakes
3. A bridge
4. A dam
5. Two monsters
6. Sky behind a white pipe
7. Some guy staring at this white pipe.
Huh.

Actually, I've always been thinking that ART was the ability to convey part of the personality or "soul" of the artist - that a piece of art would be a WINDOW into the soul (mind and emotional self) of the artist. That as such a piece of art is a very personal view of a specific issue.
I still think that.

I very much believe a video game is a work of art, more than a work of entertainment. I believe so due to the creativity required to make a masterpiece, it's not a clear process what to do, but the coding itself can be masterfully effectively done, which is not art, while the idea behind the games, that's where the art comes in.
That's decision making can be a form of art in my opinion.
Then again, anyone can claim what art is, and the pro's will probably disagree with most (and therefore likely me too), but to be called a pro merely means you can live off it, and to be able to live off it, merely means that your art has something else than the strictly artistic.

I think maybe we should stop calling things art and just have everything be classified as entertainment. I mean people wouldn't go look at art if they didn't find it entertaining, right?

There are various levels of art and various levels of comprehension, as well as various level of humans. Some will find a metalica band artistic, others will find a Bach cantata boring. However if you start calling everything "entertaining" and refute the educational dimension of the art, then you negate any responsibility of the spectator. Therefore the logical conclusion will be: I don't find it fun, then must be bad.
While the truth could be somewhere around "it is outside my comprehension, let's not critic it if I don't have the brains for".
