actually I like the optionnal missions, they are much better than in the 1st game (the only one worth remembering was the sewer mission in NY), they are even as good as compulsory missions sometimes.
but my favourite missions are still the NCF generator and the dragon tooth sword from the 1st game so far. it was so fun searching that sword with everyone lying to you.

Quote: -NPCs with no personality
I suppose you are talking about the... hm... non-character NPCs? Or the secondary characters? Because the main ones have plenty of personality - behaviour, voice acting, speeches, everything in short is pretty well done. Jensen is more than adequate protagonist as well.
As for the hacking - my problem with it is that it is hardly optional. I hack everything, no matter if I have the respective codes (which I usually do) or not, just because the thing is an excellent source of extra cash, XP and viruses/worms. Why would I just refuse getting these when I can just take them with a little to no effort?

the non important characters. yes the main ones are good. the other ones are all alike. I remember, when you arrived in battery park, there was that little boy who spied on the terrorists, the junkie who wanted to die, the homeless guy singing, the homeless woman begging for money, the homeless guy talking about tactics...
in DE : HR, when I visited detroit, there were basically a lot of people talking about augs.
and yeah, that's the problem with hacking, in every case, it's the best solution anyway. though, in a way, I think it is more balanced than in the 1st game, because in the 1st game I never needed to invest more than one level in it. but in DE : HR it cost me 8 levels I think. but in the 1st game, you couldn't hack everything. seriously, why would a place such as the 'ton hotel for example have electronic doors, that makes no sense
by the way, who thinks there are many similarities between the stories of the 1st and the 3rd game?
-the story takes place in the same countries.
-one of the 1st mission consists in finding some hidden base in the city where you start the game and disable communications
-you've got to infiltrate some biotech company in china
-you come back to your hometown to find out cops everywhere

Just completed the game today. The end was strong but not really unexpected. Still - I like it. I decided that minor spoilers alert it would be the best to send everyone to Davy Jones' locker and leave the world deal with the mess as it sees fit - seemed a good way to screw the power groups and allow the "ordinary people" to choose for themselves.
By the way, how many people replaced their chips after the first malfunction? I didn't because it seemed too obvious what's the real purpose but I'm curious what happens in the other scenario.

I'm in singapour now. actually I begin to think the game is easier than the 1st, even though the enemies are more agressive. there is less variety, so you don't really have to adapt much to new situations. well, once you have the right augmentations anyway.
it gets kinda weird, getting through places crowded with soldiers where there is hardly a single civilian ??? I think it makes the immersion less good than in the 1st game.

I didn't, and I had guessed the cause of the malfunction. I even think some dude in hengsha says it, how can different models of augs, from different manufacturers, all have the same problem, at the same moment?
but I'm still not sure what's their goal...

I've just completed it. disappointed by the end. the last phase felt a bit like the last phase in area 51, but just cheaper.
overall the last level was really easy, but pretty cool. they should just have added some more challenging phase before the end and made the ending less cheap.
also, the room with the 3 switches is just a joke. as if the guys who designed the station knew that one day some random dude would have to come in and make a choice between those 3 particular options.

I was considering a full replay of this game again and was wondering if any of you have played The Missing link DLC? if so, is it any good?

Just realized that I never finished this game...
Got the Longsword Sniper Rifle DLC so that I have something new to play with for this playthrough. Pretty badass weapon.
Also using the Machine Pistol which is pretty much the worst weapon in the game but whatever. It has a certain spec-ops feel to it.

ah? I guessed it wouldn't be much different from the assault rifle. it was decent with homing bullets. well, it got the job done against jaron...
I was considering getting the 1st deus ex for PC, since I only have it for PS2, but would it run on windows 7?

Screw the big rifles, revolver with frag ammo is all you will ever need.

Can't one-shot spec-ops soldiers with the SMG.
Disappointed. Should've gone for the pistol as usual.

You need to pump A LOT of upgrades into the smg to make it good.
Even then its one of the weakest weapons.

To put it simply, I loved it more than the game itself
