Creational Game: Side-Contests

So...those who are in the PM-list of the Creational Game will allready have read and, in many cases, voted about this...

For those who haven't heard about the side contests yet:
((Note: If you don't yet know the creational Game, look here))
This Thread is here for holding side-contests to the creational game. These contests will be parallel to the CG, but belonging to it - the tasks will all be set in the frame of the allready made decisions and the winner/s' entry will become part of the HoMM-Vision we create in the creational game.

Rules:
-I will not only accept people who have allready participated in CG. First, it's just too many pages long to be sure they haven't. Second, I think some spice from outside can be great
-Each Side-Contest...or Each Round, if you wish so...will have a not-too complicated task about yet undesigned things for the Creational Game.
-For each Side-Contest you will have about a week of time, I think. (If it's too much or not enough we'll fix it later))
-I will judge the Contests. The criterias will be slightly different per round, but of course I'll keep eyes on balance, creativity, ambience and fitting(into the setting).
-Depending on the Side-Contest, and maybe the number of contestants, a variable number of the winner entries will become content of the HoMM-Vision we create in the Creational Game.

Side Contest 1:

Your first task is to create a good creature ability for the Crusher, an upgrade of the Macemen, armed with a Morning Star/ Flail:


As a reminder - Maceman is a core unit of Haven, with the following abilities:
-Crippling Wound (In a successful attack, this creature has an additional chance of decreasing the target's Speed (-50%) and Initiative (-30%))
-Heavy Strike (Attacks of this units can ignore a bit of the enemy defense, though not much)

Also remind we have HEX-Tiles on the Battlefield and the turn/initiative system of Heroes3!

I think this task should not take too much time, but anyway for now, the deadline is Saturday, about 11 am middle-european time.
Concerning Judgement, Fitting and Balance should be most important here...but of course I'd also like to see some creativity.
Concerning winners, I think that 2 abilities will be taken in, so the Crusher does not get too many...

Pulverizing strike: A one-time battle ability that the maceman can activate if an enemy stack is next to it. The ability does slightly less damage, but will slow the attacked stack by 50% and causes the stack to deal half damage in retaliation for three turns.

Morning Star, I take that as this kind of weapon: Morning Star

Based on that here is my entry:
- Chain Reach (Active Skill):
Function: Attack reach +1 of adjacent hex when activated rather than melee. Dealing 30% lower damage but preventing enemy retaliation. Cannot be used to hit enemy stack at adjacent hex. Crippling Wound can still be triggered.
Lore: The chain binding in the morning star can be used to reach further, but significantly do lower damage.

Disarm: This unit can make a special attack against any opponent armed with a handheld weapen (sword, spear, axe, bow, etc.). On a succesfull disarm attempt*, the opponent looses his weapen, which decreases his might attack by 25 %** and furthermore makes him lose any special abilities related to his weapon (like Blade of Epiphany or Blade of Rage, plus ranged units loose their Ranged attack ability if this is related to a weapon).

* COS (chance of success) applies to this attack, and is based on the might attack of thus creature vs. the might attack of the opponent creature.

** Numerical values are just suggestions, they might be larger or smaller based on what works with balance.

Lore: Instead of attacking the target, the attack is aimed at the weapon, which is then entangled in the chain of the morningstar and yanked from the hands of the target.

I consider this a morningstar, I'd call what Admira posted a flail.

Piercing Strike (Passive Ability, replaces Heavy Strike)
The Crusher reduces the opponent's Defence by substracting it with his own Attack value. If the enemy's defence is reduced beyond zero, the attack is guaranteed to inflict Crippling Wound. The defense reduction is temporary and is negated after the Crusher has finished his attack.

OK, maybe we indeed have different pics in mind for what a morning star is...I went to wikipedia to find out^^ there, indeed, adrius interpretation  was given as correct, though I had the other in mind when giving the option in the CG...

because alci and admira allready have made a chain-related ability, adrius ability fits it good, as well, and it was the weapon that was meant, I go for the chain intepretation/for the flail. For it to be clearer, I'll edit the post so a pic is with it and both names are given...

Well I remembered in some games, although I failed to remember which, the one with chain is called morning star and the other one is another variant of Mace. I did only some Picture-googling so my bad on that

Yeah, there seems to be some confusion on the exact definition of the Morningstar vs. the Flail, but I don't really see this as a serious issue, we can just let whoever wins the competition decide the exact layout of the weapon.

Enchanted Morning Star

The first single-target buff (friendly spell or ability) that targets Crusher has a bonus effect.

The morning star absorbs some of the magical energy for 1 attack.
This attack becomes magical, associated with the element of the buff and gets a % bonus in damage, depending on the effective spellpower of the buff.

Note: Attempt to promote synergy between magical and non-magical troops/heroes.

Judgement for Round 1:

Pulverizing strike:
The ability fits the embettered weapon quite good, and I like the conversion of damage to stat reduction. However the effect is really strong, especially if slowing means Reduction of speed, and considering this is a core unit... 6/10

Chain Reach (Active Skill):
I like the effect of the ability, though it would mean quite a long chain indeed. balance is well, as I see it, numbers could maybe be changed. 8/10

Disarm:
I like the ability quite much, but I'm not sure how much it fits a Morning Star and it also is quite powerfull, thouh the numbers ar eof course held variable. would be nice to know wether the ability has only this effect or stil deals normal attack damage.
7/10

Piercing Strike (Passive Ability, replaces Heavy Strike):
Nice ability! Balance is hard to value without knowing the crushers stats of course.
8/10

I like the idea behind this! The way it's done is not so much to my taste, since, as it is, it's also effecte dby non magical abilities. yet that could be easily fixed. As it is, it may be a bit weak as well...

Concerning winners, I think that 2 abilities will be taken in, so the Unit does not get too many...

Slice and dice: Upon attacking, Heavy Infantry targets cruical areas for movement. The affected creature has halved moment for 1 turn and loses the ability to fly.

Should HI attack again before the effect is gone, it is added to the current effect (25% movement) plus a bonus effect of -X initiative, where X is dependant on the stack size of HI.

Making a half-arsed entry here, just to bump the topic.

Bitter End Blade - Every time a Heavy Infantry (mouthfull of a name, I might add) dies, it will attack the assailant for twice the damage and attack power. If the assailant used a projectile- and no friendly creature is between him and the Heavy, the Heavy will proceed to hurl his weapon at the target.

*This is an activated ability that lasts for 3 turns and can only be activated once per combat.*

this is a tough one.

Enchanted Armor: Granted +20% protection against magic and spell damage. The damage reduction is calculated after the initial damage calculation. Means the 20% damage doesn't add +20% on creature magic def.

Shield Charge (Activated Ability)
The Heavy Infantry rushes towards the enemy with his shield raised. Base damage upon hit is 25% of the Heavy Infantry's normal damage, with every Hex travelled before reaching the target adding 5% damage.
Shield Charge damages creatures standing on adjacent Hexes to the target one as well, with a maximum of 3 affected targets. Enemies hit by the Shield Charge are stunned and lose their retaliation ability for the current turn.



GREEN - Heavy Infantry hitting with Shield Charge
RED - Main target of Shield Charge
YELLOW - Additional enemies hit by Shield Charge.
