I'm watching the 3rd (and final) season of Spartacus (War of the Damned) and I have to say it's pretty fine television. It's a shame more people can't get past their preconceptions about it being little more than graphic violence and T&A. Yeah, it's got that in spades, and sometimes (ok a lot of times) it crosses the border into excessive. On the other hand, the production values are incredible and the writing/acting/script is top notch. I'm amazed at what the producers have been able to eek out of a television budget.

It was definitely fun to watch but do you think it captured the spirit of its time (like Rome did for example)? I'm not talking about historical accuracy, do you think for instance, a gladiator such as Crixus would let her woman fight in the battlefield like that, or would he had considered such an act, an insult to his manhood.  Such relations dont even exist in the movies from1950's.  The gore was a choice of style, it doesnt have to be realistic, sure, but when I watch period pieces I expect the characters to behave according to their time's values and morals. If not, I can still have fun but I take the project less seriously and treat it like a fantasy world.  The historical background becomes just a decor in such cases.

True Detective started out fine, although it has the lamest name ever.
"Deep down in the South" murder mystery; the characters, especially Matthew McConaughey as the apathetic, misanthropic detective is well done. Although, it's kind of turning into an American cliche that whenever they create a Godless personality, he also has to be emotionally bankrupt.

Just finished House of Cards season 2 and it was awesome. It's nothing short of a modern day Richard the Third.

Planning to start Black Sails. I'm a sucker for pirates, Treasure Island and the like, and besides, I quite liked Spartacus and the magnificent John Hannah. Even the other Spartacus guy was alright, though it took some time getting used to him after the late Andy. That guy was a beast.

Of course the soundtrack and the atmosphere and the blood and the shaved, oily homoeroticism reminded everyone of everything silly and over-the-top with 300, but I didn't have a problem with the imagery (I like pulp style myself) and, as Corry said, it's ace TV if you can get over that.

Other than that, House of Cards is also on my list, due to my professed unconditional love for Kevin Spacey. And I watched an episode of the Tudors along the way, seems well done, though I'd prefer to see Henry as a fat, bearded medieval 49% MF 51% SoB that I always imagined him to be.

And I'm pretty sure, at this point, that the ending of the fourth episode of True Detective's going down in television history. You need some heavy guts to do a six-minute shot in today's age, and some ridiculous talent to make it as well-conceived and thrilling. McConnaughey and Harrelson are masters of the trade, and their supporting cast isn't shabby either.

I just watched the first two episodes. Afro-American Muslim FBI agent as mole in jihadist sleeper cell... The characters fairly pass as believable and it's not a bad series, especially considering it's a little dated now. Talking about dated, the "they are right here among us" theme tastes kind of old, since 24 used it over and over again.

Saw only first season, which has a real and true finale.
We have a lot of stuff we look at the same time, and there's a lot of interesting stuff around.

I mentioned the series just because I think it's underrated - probably a consequence of the issue as such. It's pretty intense on more than just the 24 level.

So, anybody else seen the new Cosmos? I remember watching the original in the eighties as a kid, everything feels so suprising and fresh at those ages... Of course, it didnt have the same effect this time but I wasnt expecting it to. Neil deGrasse Tyson is a good host, the animations fit in nicely, I thought the CGI could do better but overall, it's really pleasant to see the good ol' Cosmos back.

Haven't watched the second season yet, but yes I agree it's a great show.

Right now I'm watching Suits and it's pretty decent. Also watching Prison Break while I exercise. It's even sillier than 24 was at times, but I can't say I'm not having fun...

Right. Walks the thin line between improbable and impossible and loses it a couple of times.

However, I like the general direction the story takes and, of course, the end.

just watched the first 3 episodes of the new(2nd) season of "hannibal". the writers seem to be trying to show a "gentler" side of hannibal, lol. the first season, he was all cold-blooded. now, he's cold-blooded, but with a heart of sorts.

anyone not watching this show, you're missing out. it seems they are pulling directly from the original source material, much more so in this season, than the last. it is very entertaining, for a regular t.v. show.

Today, while reading a forum, I noticed that most people here, when writing about TV shows, directly talk to the characters on the show. So for example, if someone's writing about The Walking Dead, it goes something like this:

Lizzie, feeding mice to the zombies, what were you thinking, girl! And Rick, you better smack some sense into that kid, it's apocalypse dude, you can't take snow lightly. Maggie should be more careful, too.

When comparing it to imdb and stuff, this style is significantly dominant in Turkish sites. I wonder what's the sociological reason behind this.
