So, with four episodes out of the bag, SS-GB is going really good. Like the Man From the High Castle, this is an alternative time-line where the Nazis had the upper hand, unlike the MFTHC which is early 60's, it's not way ahead of WW2, though. The war is not exactly over, Battle of Britain is lost and U.K. is mostly occupied, there is a resistance, a Russian-German alliance and the main character is a detective from Scotland Yard in the middle of all this. So the setting and mood is very similar to Nazi occupied Paris, except it is this time Nazi occupied London. Balanced characters and good script, I would recommend it so far.

It will probably interesting to compare it with Fatherland, especially since both are  made after a book (and not original stories).

Ah, and since I'm at it - I watched the first season of The Americans, and it's truly awesome.

Anyone else watching Legion here? God I haven't been this excited for new episodes in years I think. Episode 5 was just EPIC. Minor problem with the exposition scene in the middle, I hate when they explain things when you could deduce the facts yourself.

Previous 3 episodes have a strong horrory vibe to them and it just fits perfectly.

Vikings Season 4 was great. especially the last few episodes.

Also finished watching the 20th South Park season. this continuous plot through the season is an interesting new take on the show. It sure had it's moments though.

welp, since i can't find any reliable sites for "better call saul", i've started watching "breaking bad" again(i just got through getting caught up with "the walking dead", and i'm idle, so...). it's funny; i don't remember the 1st season being so interesting. but i'm on to the second season, and i still love it. i'd've been watching "the sopranos" like i originally planned(since i don't think i've seen every single episode), but the site i'm currently using only had the 1st episode up and running.

Watched American Gods, TV series based on Neil Gaimans bestseller. It's superb.

It's even not about the premise (Gods of old vs modern times). This has got to be one of the most atmospheric series I've watched in a long time. The cinematography, the dialouges and the music (dat intro) are all over-the-top. A bit too much 'cheap' gore for that extra shock value if you ask me but that's how they make these things nowadays I suppose...

I gave Lucifer a few shots and it's extremly stupid and unbelievable. The devil is a good guy who punishes criminals and protects the innocent? The very concept itself is moronic to begin with and the bad acting really doesnt help to convince you about such a premise. The lead actress is incredibly hot, though. I guess that's why I tolerated it for a bunch of episodes, for the eye candy.

Not really being a protector, he just likes to be around Cloe. It's not really farfetched to see Lucifer as a rebelious son who got kicked out and considers his previous job as something his father had him do. What does feel off is how soft he seems and also how clueless about his own feelings. He looks too slippery to be respectable but that's because it's a comedy.

But it's not ONLY those things that are happening, that is their official explanation, yes, but since the main character also has to be likable to the average person, they make him empathize with victims and so on and that just doesn't fit. That wouldn't make sense even if he was a neutral character since people's lives would be like the life of a butterfly to him. Nothing about the character is convincing, it's just bad writing.

I disagree completely. The show works with two simple assumptions.
1) Running the universe is a FAMILY business (the show will introduce BSG's #6 Tricia Helfer as "mom" in season 2);
2) Lucifer got the job of "janitor of hell", which he's bored with.

The devil - Lucifer - doesn't have to be "evil incarnate" - (and in fact this isn't all so new, Piers Anthony did it in his Incarnations of Immortality saga as well, for example) - just as a district attorney, judge, prison warden and even executioner doesn't have to be evil incarnate. He likes to punish the guilty, though, which means, yes, if not the janitor of hell but instead a human he'd look for a job in the law enforcement business, but he'd do that not for the money (and instead owning a bar is as simple as it makes sense).

He also wants to find out why his charm isn't working on Chloe (and I suppose some family blood running in her venes will be the reason why).

Lastly, in my opinion the show is a Castle clone in the sense that it's supposed to be a show with strong screwball comedy elements in which crimes are solved in each episode, but with an overarching story line.

Overall, it's a solid platform for the writers which works, and way better than nonsense like The Preacher.

Lucifer's mom sure changed the scene. I love how she lacks a human perspective and her reasoning is often way out there, just like Lucifer.

That's not the actual issue. He's not even charming. I'm all for an interpretation of a devil who's not a brute, Pacino handled it well. (Although his was evil with a philosophy.) I even prefer it. But he's just goofy. In Castle, such dynamic works, since a writer can be goofy, why not? Not so much when it comes to the Prince of Darkness.

his name is Lucifer MORNINGSTAR (which would be a fitting name for an Elf, if you ask me), his bar is called LUX (funnily enough), and he isn't goofy - except when you consider a mix of having weaknesses (as in not being an almighty god-like being, but more like a comic superhero - after all, it's based on a comic) and presenting the character as a mix of a cliche rock star and a cliche English snob as being goofy.

In my opinion the setting works fine, and the weaknesses of the show are more script weaknesses than conceptual weaknesses, and it would seem that season 2 have them covered quite well.

So I'm watching the first 10 minutes of American Gods episode 2 and once again I'm getting more of this "lashing" for white vs black history ****. There's a scene in which an alegory of an African diety rouses a group of afroamerican slaves on a ship to riot against their slavemasters while spouting things like "300 years in the future you will be shot by white police!". Even if the context is different that does not change the fact that it's yet another kind of a outcry of the times we're living in...

"What the author had in mind" aside I'm starting to get really irritated with this b*ll. Yeah I know political correctness is hip nowadays but there are limits to how much can be shoved down your throat.

I'm getting that 'white' people should redeem for what they've done across the ages to their fellow men, but it's not that afroamerican people are the only ones that had it hard across the ages.

Can we please get normal shows without all those underlaying "time to make things right!" agendas?

Sorry for my rant but I was really tipped off by this scene.

MOD EDIT: Please do not bypass the language filters. This is against the forum rules.

After a decent season 3, the flash finale dropped the ball. I am willing to overlook some stupidity for story convenience but there was so much bs in there that it's not even funny. I haven't seen such a stupid episode since the first season.

Arrow finale was a cliffhanger but a decent one. Saw it coming but it did end on a high note. Some convenient parts but overall I liked the season and the new characters. Just.. whatever happened to Ragman(lol)? He left so abruptly it's like he got fired

One of these days I'll start Legion, Westworld and eventually American Gods.

OH you HAVE to watch Westworld.  It's good.  Try to avoid spoilers though.

My favorite shows right now are Gotham, The Man in the High Castle, Last Week Tonight, Real Time with Bill Maher, Steven Universe, and I started going back and watching episodes of Penn & Teller's BS.
