Believable? Is a show like Heroes or even 24 believable?
I think, the guy is acting weird enough (meaning, he does weird enough things) to make his brilliant deductive capabilities an equally weird thing outside of the normal range of what even a good advengture player or something like that can expect.
The thing which bothers me more in SOME episodes is that people tend to fall for pretty obvious traps.

Anyway. I think, that the show is good because the guy is doing so many weird things and is so outspoken - or awkward - to provoke reactions.

Heroes is fantasy, that' s something else,  24 is popcorn, Mentalist could have been like BBC's Sherlock, or the old classic Kolombo if they had tuned it down a little, not exactly realistic but still believable enough to go along with.

I can't follow you, since Mentalist is, if anything, popcorn as well. I also can't follow you in that fantasy is something else, because that would mean, it would be more believable if he had supposedly magical or superhuman abilities - instead I'm thankful that they TRY at least to make it mundane.

In fantasy there is no claim of believability in that sense, so you're not looking for it in the first place, in a detective story, you expect to be convinced on a different level.

24 is stuck with being popcorn because of the format, in one of the seasons they kidnapped the guy's daughter 3 times in a single day! But everything has to happen in a day, so...

The Mentalist on the other hand, could have been a little more, I'm not talking about "high art" obviously, but not as shallow as it is right now. Right now, his deduction power is like a 5000 piece puzzle that somehow always exactly matches the true picture. I quit at the end of season 2 btw, that's all my opinion is based on.

Well, what I expect is something I COULDN'T have deducted, because if I could have what would be so special about it?
So I don't see what is different from a fantasy series? Or a popcorn series? I don't watch these shows because I want to believe what is happening there, For that I watch Terra X.
The only question is, whether the explanation works.

Well, for me, it's the opposite. A good murder mystery in the end, should always leave me saying "how did I miss that!" Sometimes, not very often, I should be able to guess. But the thing is even if it's very hard, mystery ought to be solvable when you're going through all that. Agatha Christie novels do exactly that, or one of my favorites Dial M for Murder (the Hitchcock original, not the remake) is a masterpiece of that. There's a discussion about the overuse of deduction in the genre, right inside the movie, yet it overcomes what it criticizes.

Can somebody explain to me why Walking Dead is so great?  After watching the first two episodes and the two most recent episodes I can agree is a good series but I don't see why people get so excited about it

I'm also excited for AMC's 3rd season of Hell on Wheels. I love all of the main actors in it, especially Colm Meaney!

Okay. I rewatched season 2 and I'm confuzzled about something in the last episode. Why the tit did Sansa Stark choose to remain in King's Landing after her engagement with Goffrey was annulled and Littlefinger offered her the chance to get out of her hellish situation? Does she just not trust him?

She prolly knew that Littlefinger betrayed her father (by promising the city guard support and then not delivering it) and thus doesn't trust him.

In the novel it's somebody else that offers to help her escape and she decides to trust that individual.

Speaking of which, the way that the tv producers compressed and altered the books is an interesting enough topic by itself - enough to make a thread prolly

Mad Men Season 6 began with a very good double-episode. I love the way they work on the characters like aging a wine.

Ok, I finished Caprica, and it's a pity the show was discontinued.

I understand the problem, that the show might have lost part of the BSG crowd, because there are no space fights, and that it would be difficult to win newbies, but I'd have thought a mix of The Matrix, Terminator, Frankenstein and the Godfather.
Too much dialogues and too much religion, I suppose, although the religion aspect of BSG and Caprica is extremely thought-provoking.

Anyway. Great show. Pity.
I hope, in 5 years there will be the audience for it.
Telling, though, that they would come up with Blood & Chrome, which seems to be rather ordinary compared to what Caprica delivers.

Zombie games and movies dont make sense to me at all. Seriously, a bunch of zombies is a problem?
Get a tank division and grind them...

And we have other stuff like white phosphorus, ebola, sarin gas, VX Gas, APCs and so on.

In all games or movies, there is absolutely no reason as to where the military went or why no nukes were used.

What about Aircraft carriers and other military tech?

Well, then I might give it a go IF they wrapped the story up before canceling the show. I hate it when they just cut it off without a wrap up (like in Deadwood for instance). It's a very disrespectful way to treat the audience.  So, did they?
