I got a question about the last episode of Game of Thrones.

Spoiler

Did anybody understand why Ros died in the end? Was it only Jeoffrey being the sick snow he is or was it some palace plot that got her arrowed?

omg don't get me started. I'm actually kind of ENRAGED they killed her off like that.

I really hated the latest ep lol. I think it's my least favourite GoT ep so far (which is odd since... the previous ep, episode 5, is my favourite GoT ep ever lol). The only things i can say i liked were the obligatory Olenna/Ty*WIN* scene and Littlefinger's monologue, which was bone-chilling ("CHAOS IS NOT A PIT... IT'S A LADDER "<3333333333333)

@Artu. She had betrayed Littlefinger and started working for his political enemy. One big plan of his failed because of that.

Thanks Minion, I guess I failed to notice that, because even when you tell me I can't remember such a thing. If I weren't curious I'd wait for it to be over and watch it marathon style afterwards. Sideline stories get lost like this.

Back to The Fades.

People into The Walking Dead may really want to give this a try.

The Fades

If this was a US series, the story would have been told in 2 seasons. As we are used to, the Brits are brutally to the point. Won the BAFTA award for best drama series in 2012.

Impressive stuff.

Sounds interesting JJ.  Haven't heard of it.  If history is any guide, there will be a (bloated) US-made version of it.  Once it becomes popular, we'll be able to see the original Brit version.

In the US there is this pervading belief that nobody can do anything better than us.  If there's a successful foreign movie, there just HAS to be a US remake because... well it'll sell better.  A good example is the Stieg Larsson movies.  What was wrong with the original Scandinavian versions?  Nothing.  They were great.  But we still had to have a US version to appease the masses that won't abide subtitles.

I must say, in the case of TV series and movies you guys usually make a "lighter" version with shallower characters because during these last years the Hollywood  policy in general is to apply a few standard formulas to everything since they have an unshakeable belief that's what will sell. I personally find the American cinema of 60's, 70's or even 50's much more original and full of depth. Of course when "bad money sweeps out good money" the audience also dumbs down and grown men start to talk about Iron Man etc etc like it's a big thing. Don't get me wrong, I like that stuff too, a good action movie is a hard thing to make but it should be the side-dish, not the real thing. Where are the new classics that are truly astonishing? Where are the artists who search for new things instead of repeating "guaranteed" formulas.

It would seem, there is no problem in the US to watch this stuff:

The Fades at Amazon.com

And fairly cheap as well, via Amazon Stream.

Anyway 66 out of 102 5-star rating plus a further 23 at 4-star in the US.

The good thing with this one is, it can definitely stand alone as it is, while it could have easily been going into another season.
I really like it, when writers manage this best of all endings (because there are all options open) smoothly.

By the way, in the UK the thing has only 30 ratings, 25 of them 5-star.

Speaking of massively good Brit shows:

Try MISFITS.

First season has 59 ratings on amazon.com 50 of which are 5 stars, 7 are 4 stars, 1 is 3 stars and 1 is 1 star. Here is the 1 star:

This series is a perfect example of why people disrespect authority. The social workers is made into a psychopath. Criminals are shown as being good. Every 2 seconds there's an inappropriate sexual reference. Don't watch this if you want to maintain a healthy mental state. I deleted from my library and you should to.
