Since House MD has ended, I need a new show to watch. Tbh I never watched the likes of Lost, Prison Break or Dexter. Are any of those good?

Dexter is fantastic. I'd highly recommend it. LOST is good too, but seasons 4 and 5 are a chore to get through since nothing exciting happens. 1-2-3 are REALLY good though.

I liked the few eps of Prison Break that I watched, for what it's worth.

Overall it's pretty good.  Rather, it's entertainng, if a little inconsistent in its writing.

Not as well written and acted as Dexter or as over-the-top gratuitous as Spartacus, but still worth a watch.

After my highly pleased experience with Game of Thrones, I'm kind of stuck with the curse of high expectations right now I just want them to immediately release 4 seasons of Game of Thrones and forget everything else I'll probably cave in and end up ordering the Fire & Ice books on my Nook. People are claiming that the HBO series is sticking pretty closely to the books thus far.

Spartacus & Gods of the Arena is an 8/10 for me. It can have its peeks of awesomeness, but the series lacks a little bit because sometimes it tries a little bit too hard to be decadent and vulgar, and I'll have moments where I feel like I'm watching a 1980s softcore porn flick instead of a compelling TV series (I don't know how many times the characters use the metaphor of ass and cock... but it's a lot) Like, there's a threesome between the same people 3 episodes in a row. C'mon. Repetitive. Show some artistic vision and replace one of the people with a giraffe. I dunno.

edit: There's a new series called "Camelot" in 2011 that I'm going to be ordering also. It's of course yet another retelling of King Arthur & his companions, with a darker tone than the Merlin series that's running right now. I might order 1 DVD of True Blood and 1 of Camelot to start off with.

Oh I don't think Spartacus is anything truly compelling or thought provoking, but it hits all my needs for gratuitous sex and violence quite nicely.

Re: Camelot.

Nice show, but don't bother.  It was cancelled after one season.  Too bad, because it had some potential.

All said and done, Dexter is still the best show ever for me.  Especially season 4, which might have been the most fantastic 12 hours made in the history of the small screen.

I'm planning on confronting my prejudiced distaste for police shows sometime by the end of summer. I'll probably start watching Dexter after I'm done going through True Blood. Everybody that has similar tastes to me says that it's - at the very worst - decent, so I'm sure I would like it.

What, True blood? lol, I found the show, 'laughable' at best, albeit I may not the best arbiter, since I only watched a single episode, but in my defense, that's all I could handle.

I'm actually reading the first book now, and I can def say it's a great way to spend the off-season. "A Game of Thrones" follows the series quite closely, but it is still a good and compelling read because it is written that well.

wrt to the TV Series, I've watched both seasons, one on DVD, the other online. It's only 10 episodes per season, so DF can watch it relatively quickly enough and tell us what he thinks. It is better than LOTR imo.

The first season of True Blood is really good.

The later seasons are either gay porn or complete bullsnow.

I'm kind of leery that reading the books will make watching the series less exciting for me. Call me lame, but immersing in something with visuals and audios is more exciting than a book, even though books are still great and have the unique advantage of being very easy to produce (in comparison).

I had already read the LotR trilogy when I was 13, and the movies started coming out when I was 16, and I was still like.... ****ing ECSTATIC over the movies, but for a long, drawn out series, I just don't know if it will work the same way. With a 10 episode season they'll be able to get into the details more than a movie would.

The first episode of True Blood... wow. I've watched stuff before where it starts out weak but then it vastly improves, but wow. That first episode was BAD. And this was an HBO production too. I hope a nuclear bomb detonates in the tavern and disintegrates all of the characters in the 2nd episode and that ends up being the finale.

True Blood is fantastic! It starts out kind of slow and then just gets more and more outrageous as it plots on!
