*sigh* Catapult skills

Sad to see this skill is still pretty worthless.  Walls have around 9 structural points a segment.  Catapult does 3 damage a shot, so it takes 3 hits to destroy the wall.

The first catapult upgrade gives an additional point of damage, so 4 a shot.  That still makes it 3 hits a wall, so what's the point?  I know units can individually attack walls, but how often are you going to go through the moat to do so, when you can just go for the gate?

As to the second upgrade, it seem cool in theory.  Everybody gets tagged for X amount of damage at the start of the round.  It's cool until you see it only does around 15 points at level 8 or so.  Since everybody has beefed up hitpoints in the game, it is pretty worthless.

I haven't made it to level 15 yet with anybody but remember getting the last catapult skill in the beta and being very unimpressed as well.

Anybody have any different impressions or luck with the skill line?

I agree the catapult skills are dissapointing. But I think much may have been saved if controll was given over said catapult.
The random bombardment of walls is pretty useless. It's a crying shame that we could not use the catapult to batter down the gate and focus on the towers next.

Catapult skills' uselessness has been reported very early in the private beta, but it seems they don't care much about it since they ignored it.

Imo, Catapult level 1 is fine, level 2 should give full control and level 3 should give an additional 50% shot (like morale ... kinda).

It is obviously not going to remain like that but it will have to wait for a major patch, it was not deemed as a priority for the release. That goes for all skills where they would have to change mechanics as opposed to editing some values.

I just wonder why they thought it was worth implementing in its current incarnation?

Because people who don't have a clue will look upon it, think "wow, cool animations !" and get a fuzzy feeling. It looks good in a trailer or a gameplay video, who cares if using it for a week will make you realize it sucks. The game is already sold.
