So, after completing the prologue, I decided to do Kiril's campaign first, but I've had a bit of trouble.

My first attempt seemed to be going alright until I ran afoul of the enemy hero.  At that point, the mission objectives turned on me so quickly that I had to entirely reassess what I was doing, and it wasn't long before I was quickly crushed in combat.

My second attempt is floundering, so far.  I'm doing better than I had done the first time, but again, I'm being constantly assaulted from both fronts by surprisingly large armies.  I've managed to take two enemy towns and deprive the Legions of Pain some resources, but in the process I've lost a lot of troops as well, and now the Pain Lovers have decided to send a force at me from the other direction.  Unless something changes soon, this attempt is going to be a failure as well.

And so, here I request assistance: anyone have any good advice for a newb?  I mean, if THIS is what it's like on Easy, I'm never going to finish this game

Yeah, even as someone who has played a lot of heroes games, and a lot of the heroes 6 beta, I found kiril's campaign surprisingly challenging on normal settings.  I had to replay a few battles here and there...even though I never had to do that in custom game vs hard AI.

You should probably play an easier campaign, such as the haven or sanctuary one (I hear they're easier, but not really sure about that).

I am trying to do the Haven campaign right now on Normal, and imo its really really hard. H5 was MUCH easier.

I think I screwed up the very first mission, because first you got to kill two Orc players and that was a bit tough. My hero was very weakened after that.

And then instantly after that, two powerful Haven heroes arrive, captured my defenseless towns and owned me (tthat is where I realized that since I tend to quick combat all the battles anyway - I should play on Easy ;P)
I really like the Area of Control system though.

So yeah, I kinda screwed up there.
I will most likely have to restart the mission on Easy and try to rush through it cause honestly, the only reasons I do the campaign is for the Boss fights and the story (which is much better than in H5 - so far). Not the boring combat (Haven combat is really boring without Glories imo)

I don't really like how the campaign is so so non-linear.
It gets a bit messy.

I'm also doing Kiril's campaing as my first one and yes it's hard. I had to restart the campaign after I have seen an enemy hero. And my second try is going nicely.

You have to take Hellhounds and Maniac at beginning as soon as possible. After that when you become strong enough and that enemy heroes seem "trivial", you have to go to the enemy at the north as the other one at the west uses a monolith and I have only seen its exit near my 3rd town. When you are going to that north enemy the other one will come and take your towns one by one, it is inevitable. But when you destroy that north enemy teleport to you only remaining town, the original one and retake all your towns as he will run away from you and leave the towns without units or very little units. Advanced Town Portal must exist in at least on one town and basic must be built in the north enemy's town you have captured in order to go to it quickly in case the third and the further away enemy comes to get it. After that, you'll have to have a second strong hero which will guard the monolith exit while you go to his town.

I also started with Kiril's campaign on Normal and - I have to admit - it's a hell of a ride. I completed three maps already and all three of them were DAMN LONG.
I'm glad that the Hellhound has been beef'd somewhat, now it does exactly what it should: hit hard and fast. If it wasn't for the numerous bugs in the game, Kiril's campaign would have gotten 5 stars from me.

@Kitten: What exactly was "spoiled" for you? The thread contains 0% information about the H6 story or characters...

Agreed.

Finished the first map from Kiril's campaign at last. It was damn hard. The last hero you fight is especially very hard, you have to get ready really well.

I'm having trouble with the second mission. Can you guys give some advice? I got through the first mission by blitzing all the AI players before I went around collecting stat boni...but the second map is pretty damn hard.

=== SPOILERS! ===

I'm talking specifically about the second Haven town+fort that you have to take. After taking the first town a Haven magic hero (Eduardo I think) attacks within a week. Which is mostly fine, but I doubt I can outgrow the Haven army given that there's a garrison hero (severe at week 3) and Eduardo continues to respawn at severe~high.

How'd you guys manage this mission? Currently playing a neutral magic affinity Kiril with Mass Regeneration/Mass Inner Fire/Mass Life Drain.

Strange, I had no problems there...The 2nd mission was imo easier than the first.  I did get to level 10 tears hero before starting the 2nd mission, though.  I just took the haven castle in 2 days, then went for the fort.

Take the first haven town. Then build maniacs, hellhounds and succubus each turn and don't forget to convert the dwelling near the entrance of the map. The first hero appearing won't attack your caste but will attack you outside of the castle. You should beat him nicely. Then, without hesitation go for the fort and take and convert it. This will boost your core growth and there is also a dwelling of lacerators and you will have roughly 10 lacerators (non-upgrade, forgot its name) and nice number of core units. Wait until it says "low" or "moderate" for Eduardo and strike him. This part of the map is easy, you just have to be quick and try not to lose many units, they will always attack your dogs. "Reinforce" him, if you have reinforcement. And if in one battle you have lost many dogs, try to beat the next battle without using them, and that will balance your units numbers nicely, otherwise you won't have any dogs. Also upgrading hellhounds to cerberus is very cheap but don't do it before building all cores. The first things you have to build must be capitol, the core units, fortifications and upgrade cores.

Thanks for the help. What I did wrong the first time around is wait for 2 weeks growth while clearing out the starting area. (I've always been somewhat averse to early game zerging because it was much harder in HOMM3) This time around, I simply waited for one week of growth (a few days after capturing the first Haven town, figured the week was going to pass while I made my way to the second Haven town) and attacked the other Haven town...

This game is pretty unforgiving (especially compared to previous versions) when it comes to a few simple mistakes here and there...ahhh well, just means I'll have to blitz attack every AI player.

Thanks!

I'm still stuck on it lol

After seeing the thread about there being an order in which to do the campaigns, I decided to step back from it and try following that order.  First thing I learned: this mission is really hard in comparison to the first mission for the Stronghold, Sanctuary and Haven campaigns >.<

The second thing I've learned is that attacking the enemy to the north DOES seem to be the best strategy, but it seems I may have realized that too late, as at this point in time I've already been bled dry by the constant attacks from both sides, and unless I can manage to hold onto what I have for a little while, in order to build up my forces, I'm going to be stuck pretty bad.  I think this is already my 4th attempt, but I'm not sure as I've kind of lost track x.x

Did 2 1/2 of the campaigns so far.. starting to get bored. Probably going to turn to MP at this point. There are some challenging points but often it's more the same "remove the immediate threat(s), then sit around waiting forever (doing basically nothing for weeks/months) until you have a big enough army to win the final siege" formula. I like the initial part but can't stand the sitting around for a billion turns thing.

They should have made the final armies smaller across the board so the player can attack in a reasonable amount of time. I get that they want the final battle to feel "epic" but there's nothing fun about sitting in a castle for a month or two. The only thing I do in that time is check arti merchants once a week lol.

Also if you're having problems w/ sieges.. most of the AI heroes in the campaigns can be lured out (bit of an exploit so you may not want to win this way) w/ an armyless hero far enough away that the AI hero can't make it back to the castle the same turn --> your main sitting nearby can attack.
Some of them are scripted to stay in the castle though.

I have another question...on the third mission, how do you finish the the side quest Hunter and the Hunted? I've essentially cleared the entire map and haven't a clue how to do it...

Don't you people think Mother Namtaru is very very very easy? I have defeated her in 1,5 turns. She only attacked twice. They should have adjusted her HP considering all the towns I had to capture before her as they boosted my unit growth to the extreme. 2 strikes from my Cerberus and she was dead. It was a joke. In her skills there was a thing that read "Mother Namtaru takes %90 reduced damage" but she just received it all.

How do you get through the first mission? I'm having trouble after you battle the Inferno hero after you killed the Tormentors. The first time after that I captured the neutral castle but then the 'Legion of Pain' and the 'Pain Lovers' attacks round after round that have stats of Deadly or High. I can't keep up with that even if I try to win every battle without loosing to much units. Am I missing something?

PS (To developers) Hell Hounds needs more health or defense because they die like flies.

Let's see...I suppose that you meant the Southeastern castle. Getting the maniacs before Deleb gets serious is also crucial. Straight to the town at the midwest after that, making a stop at a Pyramid(I think?)in order to liberate  and you've got a solid basis. Try to avoid engaging with the Hellhounds in not necessary at least until getting the    maniacs. Using Lilims' seduce ability is also imperative. Personally I stuck to reinforcements-no regeneration or drain life, but I do not deny their usefulness.

Hellhounds are fine as they are (good magic defense too)! If they give them more defense they will need to give less offensive power and it's not the purpose of this unit. It's one of the most powerfull cores in the game, it's up to the player to deal with their weakness. People will consider them powerfull enough when they will face them in a full inferno army . Trying to focus fire vs them when the ravagers won't let them do that .
