AI too tough?

Or am I just sucking big time?

I wanted to play some of their maps 1v1 against the AI, but I've only won once out of 5 times.

Even on EASY mode with the AI hero supposedly on no threat (meaning he isn't supposed to attack me) he still comes and wipes me out in the third or 4th week.

I'll keep plugging away, but the AI seems pretty tough at this point to me!

That's good to hear I've had no problems beating it in the demo and if it is improved that's great news!

It is a little bit more "cleaver" but nothing spectacular.

Yesterday in prolog map, on hard difficulty it should win..

It had:
50 sisters, 50 sentinels, 50 archers.

I had 55 pretorians, 18 sisters, 60 archers, 6 gobos.

Also he was behind the wall and had equal level.

At some point he did "stupid" move and I manage to win against it.
What does it mean? I means there are "holes" in AI which can be exploited.

Easy should at least be EASY, otherwise there's no point in calling it easy.

Actually is there any clarity on what the difference between easy/normal/hard is?

If you start a game let say campaign, click on difficulty, some "user defined setting should appear.

From what I remember difference in levels of difficulty is:
- rate of neutral creatures grow
- number of resource at the beginning and being found.
- level of AI

Probably AI on hard will cheat more.

Sad but probably true. Do you have any impression wether you lose because AI is actually good at playing, or just because the amount of cheating makes it tough to win?

Currently I don't have a prove it is cheating.

But, it is "smarter".

It is using cover more often. In one fight AI hid itself behind the obstacle.

It is using battle map objects which boost some stats for example +10 to luck. In one fight AI moved to "boosting" area of given object for stat boost. And it was not by accident.

Also AI is going straight after shooters or healers. I'm talking about early game 3-4 weeks.

Hasn't it always been like that, only with casters instead of healers?

I've played the prologue campaign on hard and didn't notice any difficulty spikes. True, there were a couple of heroes that visited my outposts a couple of times, but they weren't hard to kill.

The only trick you need to do in order to win is outsmart them. Make use of your forces to take advantage of the Ai's obsession with healers or archers. In the last fight I had 150 praetorians and AI had 100. What I did was to get my troops on the gate to lure the computer. Then, I "sacrificed" my healer and sent her near the praetorians along with my weaker stack of orcs. He fell for it, and in the next turn his one hundred troops were history because he got good morale and attacked my orc two times, triggering two painful retaliations from my spear men.

It's also a good idea to lose as few troops as possible and keep them on your main hero. If you feel the need to explore the map, do it with scout heroes. Splitting your army isn't a wise decision when there are powerful AI roaming around.

During the beta i mentioned that Sanctuary map was easier on hard than it was on easy. Difference was huge - on easy you could never out-camp the AI due to slow creature amassing, while on hard it was a joke of a level.

I think creature growth might be bugged, or preventing easy from actually being easy. I have no proof of this. Maybe if you go easy mode + normal growth (custom) it will actually be easier?

For some reason several maps work smoother on hard. Go figure.

That sounds a bit like Heroes 4 - if you picked highest difficulty level, neutral stacks were so big that AI never even captured mines around starting castle for fear of losing his initial army, and since neutrals grew faster than him, once week one was gone, the window was closed. That made the game sort of a joke, because when you came to AI castles, they had only level 1 and 2 creatures.

Anyone tried this AI_SmartHumanCombatAI to "true" setting yet? Is it working?

I really, really hope that AI is tough. Although in the demo, it wasn't. Heroes 5 was ridiculously easy, make this one a challenge for a change.
