It's all good, I had the same reaction as you both when I checked out H5's editor and now with this one in H6. I missed the simplicity from H3 and still do, don't get me wrong. Actually, if I could ask for anything I'd like a second map editor in addition to the current one, one that a) includes a random map generator (like in the H3 version) and b) is focused on creating a map in as few clicks as possible, with the goal to be even easier than the H3 editor. It can be done, it just needs some clever thinking.

But, being a realist I fear this won't happen coming from the developers and I share your frustration about that. The editor should've come with a complete doc and there should have been an alternative way to create maps quickly and easily like in H3. Perhaps someone will make this as a mod, what do I know. Someone with an abundance of spare time.

I guess it all comes down to whether you're willing to shell out hard cash for the game and its current map editor or not, if you haven't already that is. I believe the docs for the editor will be released, too bad they weren't for the actual release.

Looks like this thread has become a place for rants...

That's sad.

Agreed. Topic return required & my apologies for causing sadness (I take the blame).

I'm trying to find a gate in the myriad of adventure items, that can be opened and closed by triggers. Has anyone found one? Do I have to use a faction town gate?

if anyone can figure out how to make a user-made map show up on multiplayer screen that would be great. It appears that for multiplayer purposes the game (for some reason) looks ONLY in the .orc files and not in the scenario folder. It does look in the scenario folder for single player melees and hotseat. Not to continue the rant too much, but it is true that it seems like these guys have never made a game before. Everyone puts a "browse folders" option on their game when it comes to maps. And AA. etc.
Just a lot of no-brainer stuff that they should have known to do had they done their homework. If someone can confirm my suspicion then we should put it on the official ubi bug thread.

Hope there is a work-around, as multiplayer will be pretty dead if people have to reverse-engineer the .orc files using that tool to play user-made MP maps, lol.

Go list this under Bugs or Requests in the official forum. I think BH goes through that one specific post where all bugs are summarized (where each one is in pink). They might add this in the next patch.

Stay tuned as one of the devs posted on the official forum just now that a second edition of the editor guide comes later today. Apparently it's focusing on quests.

How about one that focuses more on basics? The one we got only scratched the surface and didn't go into enough detail to explain the regular stuff.

Yay, I succeeded in creating a test Blood / Tear choice dialogue window.

Now to figure out how in the world I am going to create triggers for those quests. O.o

This was really hard, but I studied the Water Elemental quest in the first Sanctuary mission to learn how to make these.

This means you can bring back the questgivers that were on the adventure map in H3 (though this is much harder because its all based on the trigger editor)

I was not around when H5's editor was released so I don't know how complex it seemed at first. But humans are famous for getting accustomed to everything. I will also start the map making myself after I finish capmaigns as I would like to know every faction nicely before putting something forward because otherwise I have the risk to make some unbalanced map. And it is really great to see how some people are really devoted to creating maps. I'm sure we'll have great custom maps created by HC members in time and the original post of the tread will be crowded with maps

Bridges? Water?

I created a map with a bridge. I couldn't get it to work or figure out how to cross the bridge which spanned a river.

I removed the bridge and put in a natural land mass to go across the water and I still can't cross it.

Earlier in this thread someone had asked how to cross a bridge, but no one answered and the poster never came back to state if they figured it out.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Mal

I'm having the exact same problem. How can we actually use a bridge for something else than simple decoration?

Cheers!

I gave up on the bridge, but last night while looking at some of the original scenarios, I noticed a land bridge. I have not tried to recreate it yet, but this is what I think they have done.

Just make a strip of land crossing the valley, or canyon. Then used the 'Square visibility' tool on the side tiles.

Did you use the 'Square visibility' tool? Or did you find another solution?

That's the one. Sorry for just posting an image with no explanation but I had to run out. Someone at the official forum (kirstgod) asked me too but figured it out and even wrote a little guide for it: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/23390546/Inserting%20bridges08.pdf

Can't you just "paint" pathing to make other bridges crossable?
