Can't you just "paint" pathing to make other bridges crossable?

That would be the best way but I haven't found a way to do that. You cannot paint an object (like a bridge) passable, only terrain tiles/mesh quads.

I think the problem or limitation lies with the game engine not understanding that the player can cross something that doesn't have terrain in the first place. If you sculpt a ditch or valley and then place a bridge object between one side of that valley to the other, the engine only reads passable area from the actual terrain, not the bridge object. So that's why it's necessary to have passable terrain all the way, and put the bridge on that terrain, since it's how the engine reads whether the player can walk there or not. It's a bit limited, and I hope they can add objects like bridges to what the engine defines as passable in future patches.

Uploaded the first map. But it would be great if the creators of maps would come here and tell us that there is a new map by him/her. Cause we can miss some or be aware of the map pretty late.

where do I place self made maps so I can play them?

Just save your maps in My Documents/Might and Magic Heroes IV/Scenarios. If you don't know where My Documents is on your pc, just look in most likely c:/users/<your user name>.

Good luck.

I can't find any /Scenarios directory on my computer.

Under C:\Documents and Settings\1st User\My Documents\Might & Magic Heroes VI I have the directories \1 st User and \ErrorReporting.

Under C:\Documents and Settings\1st User\My Documents\Might & Magic Heroes VI\1st User I have the directory \Save.

I tried to create a \Scenarios directory both under C:\Documents and Settings\1st User\My Documents\Might & Magic Heroes VI and under C:\Documents and Settings\1st User\My Documents\Might & Magic Heroes VI\1st User, but I can't find the user map in the game

Any Idéas please

Edited by DoubleDeck at 07:23, 25 Nov 2011.

You need to create your own "Scenarios" folder.

The "Might & Magic Heroes VI" folder should be already there under "My Documents" so you must just go into this folder and create it there. Then copy and paste the SCN files (maps) to this Scenario folder and then they will be available to play.

Some thoughts on the first two maps (Maps4heroes):

Hall of Raiders:
Very wierd and funky map....it's very good keeping both players active as the neutrals are player controlled so when your opponent goes into battle you fight him/her as best you can!

Sanctuary:
Thought this map was uneven / not balanced, I mean player 2 starts in a very cramped area and the other players have vast areas to explore...thoughts?

Thanks for your reply, but if you read my post you see that I have already tried that. I still can't find the user maps.

A couple of additional info is:
1) I don't play connected to internet (only play custom games)
2) I excpect to find the user game under custom games (have looked other places, but I could have missed something here)

More help appriciated.

I did read your post but not sure what is happening to your maps.

I am just going through step by step what I did:
From the Maps4Heroes site you download the zip file which contains a SCN file (the map) and a readme.txt file. The readme file contains the area where you need to copy&paste the SCN file which is:

My Documents\Might & Magic Heroes VI\Scenario.

Once you create the Scenario directory, you put the maps there.

You don't need to be online to play these maps, they will still be under skirmish, custom and multiplayer sections....

Potential other problems:
- You are not using Patch 1.1.1
- You are using Windows XP which could be different for this

I guess the problem is name of folder - it is supposed to be "Scenario" not "Scenarios".

Regarding the mini-map in the editor, Nemaaa from Black Hole replied to me in the official forum that it's not working yet, in other words they didn't have time to finish its code before the game release. He didn't say anything about when it would be implemented, but I doubt it'll magically do so after patching to 1.2. Perhaps in a later patch or expansion is my guess.

Making a working map for h6 is a load of effort, yeah. It may be too difficult for newbies, and the oldies have other things to do. Myself I'd love to make a h6 scenario as I was doing for H1, H3 and H4, but I know that for next several weeks if not months I will be swarmed by countless professional activities. I have merely enough time to learn h6 mapmaking techniques these days. I hope to have some time around April, but you know, it's only hope.

I hear ya. I'm tinkering with the H6 editor from time to time, hoping to sit down for enough time with it to produce something worthwhile. It will happen eventually (slamming fist on table)!

On that note, there's a guy on the official forum whom is working on a 512x512 (largest possible size) map right now. He posted some screen shots of it in WIP state, and it looks promising indeed. Looking forward to it once it's ready.

There are nine H6 maps on maps4heroes.com so far, whereas one of them was made by Ubisoft/Black Hole as a holiday gift. That's better than no maps, and shows that despite being complex it's still possible to finish a map with the H6 editor.

I've been getting to know the editor for the past few weeks, but I can't work on maps any more than maybe an hour a day, so it takes a while. I'm satisfied with the editor though. While it may seem frustratingly complex at the beginning, it gets better once you've got the hang of it, and you may find the complexity even has its advantages. That said, I still don't know anything about triggers and the camera and cutscene editors. Plus, there just are not enough objects to put on a map. I want more buildings, more attribute modifiers, more diversity!

Setting the allocation to 'disabled' in the EntityProperties dialogue box did the trick for me.

What exactly did you mean by 'forcing tiles to be passable'? Do you mean tiles that are normally not passable, or something other than terrain tiles, like f.ex. bridges?
The only usage I've found for setting the allocation to 'disabled' is for putting more entities/items/stuff in the same spot, sort of on top of each other. Good for placing trees in a natural looking way f.ex.

Also, if you have any specific questions regarding Triggers, I may be of assistance. I've tinkered a bit with that part of the editor. Knowing it's very much akin to programming helps.
