So I started lessons on my specialty and I am rather enjoying it  This is the first thing that actually requires some effort to learn and I actually like doing. Not to mention we avoid other stuff and are under the colonel's command who is an amazing guy. The first week is almost over which means we'll soon get our share of chores to do but on the other hand I cannot complain, I've been out every single day and I'm running out of money Also I could use some extra sleep. In general this month is going to be more demanding since there will be official visits and that will take extra care not to mess up anything. If we play nice we'll even get bonus days for our Greece visit but for now avoiding prison time will be nice ^^

Actually it's about determining positions and missile coordinates, not the easiest thing but seems interesting.
Heya Geny! First week in Cyprus almost over, not going to be out everyday from now on Not necessarily a bad thing as my cash reserves were getting low, things are pretty expensive here. They'd better pay us soon

Actually I haven't touched a potato, this is a thing of the past. Cold semi-edible pre-fried potatoes are the future!

You'd be surprised, the camps feel nothing but poor. I mean.. carbonara. Not to mention how much food I have seen wasted. This camp's cuisine though is lacking, apparently the good cook is away for a month

The "good" cook? Would that be a cook who can actually cook or who isn't as stomach-churningly horrible as the regular one?
I'm not that surprised to hear so much tasty food is wasted though. I mean, putting it into the Army's Daily Chow could actually -heaven forbid- give it FLAVOR ::eek::

Current cook is just.. very mediocre. We were used to actually enjoying our meals but considering all the other perks that come with this camp I can't complain in the slightest. In a couple of other camps people get a really hard time, from the oldies as well as the higher ups. But they get good food All my responsibilities atm are studying for my specialty and cleaning, that's nothing.

Oh yeah, army food waste. Sounds horribly familiar. Nothing you can do about it though, the military thinks it's better to have a surplus of food rather than a shortage... and for once it's actually right.

That it does. Currently I am being trained into an actual soldier including parade marching, morning exercises, night watch, weapon commands and naturally impeccable military blanket folding  Standing guard clearly shows the army for the theater it is. You carry a G3 without ammo, you know passwords that inspectors rarely care to learn and often ignore your request to halt, you guard a place that is in no way theatened by anyone, the bullet protection spots can in no way protect you from bullets. You aren't protecting the 'fort', you are protecting yourself from prison time And there is an overzealous colonel that occasionally comes from blind spots of straight out of the shadows to catch you off guard and get a hold of your gun like a true commando ^^ If he does you are toast naturally. And he does so at any time in the night, the guy is not from this world
At least I am doing something, missing Athens and you guys though. I should be back on 28 December.

That guy had gone straight towards a guard at some point. Halt! Nothing. Halt! No reply, he keeps coming. Then the guard swears loudly, lifts the gun and hits him as he is about to be rushed. He got awarded extra days for his next home visit for acting in the correct manner and a few days prison for swearing ^^ You can tell that the guy is awesome right there.
