Thoughts, improvements and the future for heroes.

They should ditch the H5/H6 graphics engine for a possible H7 because it's giving nightmares for even the most top notch machines. It's outdated and very choppy/laggy just look at the number of people having problems with H6's animations and glitchy graphics.

I mean even if most run this game smooth, it only lasts for soo long, what about the black screens and long loading times ??? What's that all about? Some good machines even crash ??? Yes I'm reading alot of the bugs over on the other forums but they can't be all a coincidence?

Anyways, there are a few improvements or bugs that need to be fixed, like the keys for defend/wait doesn't work in siege combat.

Agreed on new engine. I preferred the H2 and to a lesser extent H3 graphics to the rest of the series. The cartoony creatures are just too damn endearing. That will probably never happen again because people want crazy realism and amazing graphics :-\

As far as bugs, there's a few other threads discussing all of them. There's a lot, but once the handful of major ones are fixed it should be a great game.

When you say outdated, choppy/laggy, you talk about your computer ? Seriously, I have a 3-4 years old computer (Pentium Dual 2.2GHz, 3GB memory and a GeForce 9500GS) and I run the game with everything to max except for animated trees and shadows. The game runs perfectly. No crash, no lag.

People need to update their drivers and run some defrags every now and then. People have the computer they deserve. It's like a car, you have to maintain your computer if you want it to be performant.

Or it's a matter of wanting a mature game, rather than a game that has graphics for 10 years old kids. H2 was looking great ... 15 years ago, but now it's totally outdated.

This sounded a little weird to me. The 2D creatures themselves may be a little cartoony, but they were more realistically proportioned than those of the 3D games.
They also wore the most believable clothing.

Look at how wrong you are
Graphics age, great design doesn't.

EDIT: You're reckon right, Alchi.

I think Avirosb has an important point here: We need to distinguish between Design and Graphics. One could update Heroes 2 design to contemporary graphics and it would probably looks amazing.

I had the same problem with H5, and now H6 looks even worse, graphics were Warcraft like. While I enjoy the best possible graphics in Oblivion and Assassin Creed, I think that games about maneuvering small units as Civilization and Heroes must remain in old graphic style, and those creatures must never blend to the fauna around. H5 was unplayable for me because of that, with hundreds of fire/light effects, battle field stuffed to max and creatures shapes not clearly defined.

Haha yeah. There's just something amazing about having an army of boars and halflings, and when titans are wielding a lightning. Such amazingness.

Beyond that, the H3 game felt so fast - probably the biggest reason for me to not get heavily invested in the fifth one was the slow turn rates and just slow animations in general. H6 does good job at fast animations, but the hero turn rates and the AI is somewhat lacking still.

Just to be clear, when I said that a future H7 needs a new graphics engine, I didn't mean to revert back to H3-H4 engine.

And H6 runs pretty smooth on mine too, but I believe that if Ubisoft doesn't come up with improvement patches to optimize the gameplay in the future other than the patch 1.1, there are lots of people that are going to lose interest in this game now and the future.

I know you can do things like maintain your computer and defrag and stuff like I have done and keep your computer clean, but even mine does show some lag once in awhile when I run this game and they can still improve the gameplay with patches.

Thank God I haven't experiences any crashes yet and overall the game runs pretty smooth.

But I haven't really tested the games ultimate potential, for example I haven't played on the largest map with 8 AI oppnents and with legions of units on the battlemap.

I'm guessing that this scenario requires alot of resources from your computer to run smoothly compare to a small map with 4 players and less.

So I think future patches should include optimizations ..
