very disappointing sound effects

Heroes was always very good at background sounds, town themes, terran themes and battle themes -- heroes 4 is the best, heroes 5 is wonderful as well (Siege-Haven is my ringtone for 5 years and my friends are very impressed with that)

But this one seems to be rather crappy -- battle themes cannot make me feel excited at all... and they not only disregard the town windown, but also put least effort in town background sound...

Not to mention unit sounds, but that is just me comparing it to H2.

Personally I don't really like the Necropolis theme music, and i must agree the battle themes aren't exciting at all. I wish they would re-make the homm2 battle theme which is this one ( its freaking amazing!!!!!

It would give the best atmosphere ever to mmh6 -

I agree about the battle theme and some of the units, but not about the town themes, especially Stronghold, Inferno and Sanctuary. As for the Necropolis theme, I was not impressed at first but it has actually grown on me.

Its just my personal opinion - I think that that the other themes for necropolis where much better and had more atmosphere.

Here is the link for the one in homm3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXGBh_3J25g

and for the new one in mmh6: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eukaphUkaQw

Battle- Dungeon is still my ringtone. I have also used Siege- Fortress and Siege- Stronghold. Especially Siege- Stronghold has a very dramatic passage.

But I don't agree with the "crappy" accusation. They are good. Some of them are great. But yeah, the average of the quality of music is lower than H5's. But it's still good.

On the other hand, I totally agree with units' sounds. I was in love with Flame Lords would shout in a ritualistic voice "Haphooo" before their special attack or how Mage first mumbles the spell and then shouts "Fireball!" before his spells.

Oh, I do recall that-HOMM3's theme had a "Dance Macabre" vibe and is still one of my favourites and so are H2's and H4's necro themes(not 5's though...I didn't like that one at all). This is not the same necropolis though...diffenent beliefs and tenets make a horror theme less viable I tink. A different atmosphere but not necessari;y inferior. It is the Haven theme that, although I like, I consider not exacly fitting for the faction.

And yes, it's all just personal opinions, isn't it ?

In my case it was Town Screen-Conflux and Town Screen-H3 Stronghold.

Speaking of Blahs; do the vampires still have them?
Or are they superserious übercool knights of death now?

There is a blah sound effect for vampires in the data files (Sound\VO\Barks\Vampire\H6BANE_ID1_Vamp_606.mp3), but I don't know if it's implemented properly. It worked in one of the betas.

I hate the sound of the Haven male fighters when attacked by an enemy creature, they sound like 10 year olds hit with a stick. The Sister's/Vestal's "pain" sound is about 5 times more masculine.
However I like the Pit Fiend's Hateful Retaliation sound quite a lot, it  just says "You made a mistake, now you will be fried!"

I can't really say if I like the creature sounds in this game or not since I have the bug where they all sound like chipmunks.  It's really irritating!  Well, since it doesn't seem to be affected by the bug, I can say I really like the sound of the snow maiden's projectile and the clunk when it hits the target.

The moment we know how to change resource files in the game, I'm totally changing the vampire attack sound with the blah from Homm2! Though it won't be as funny without the flying bat and the hug animation!

Hmmm... I personally like Heroes VI's town theme and terrain theme. Battle theme are not outstanding but still acceptable. Creature sounds and various sound effects are just regular.

I think Sanctuary's theme capture the faction's atmosphere quite well, but could not beat Rampart in Heroes III (still my favorite )

You know you can fix this by setting the unit speed to lowest, right? I play it like that in order not to have that irritating voices, altough I would prefer a faster unit speed than the lowest.

While I too have the feeling sometimes that a theme from an earlier Heroes would fit better in some places, personally I am very satisfied with the music in general. Their only blunder was assigning important themes to "third-party"(Read: Not the oh-so-awesome traditional duo of Robert King and Paul Anthony Romero, for whose masterpieces I will forever be grateful.)composers, which understandably led to a relative lapse in quality. Thankfully, the main theme + subthemes concept which was dominant in H5, disappeared almost without a trace, so another of my wishes was granted, it seems

P.S.: The general trend which started with H4, continues to this day; As far as I am concerned, the soundtrack outpreforms the game yet again, though this time was a close one, and if I didn't have Net problems for the moment, I might be forced to reconsider it. It's a win-win either way, so I'm not overly concerned.

Thanks for the tip!  But yeah, I tried it at the lowest setting and, although the sounds were OK, I just couldn't handle the very slow movements!  Especially the Shark Guards and Kappas.  I'll probably try it again whenever I'm playing another campaign than the Sanctuary one.  Maybe the other factions have naturally faster creatures!

I agree completely.  When I watched the intro the 1st time I played, there was a point I was just listening to the music, not checking the animation anymore!  The music is so beautiful in the intro.  For the in game music, I haven't played enough yet to form a solid opinion on that matter but from what I heard, each pieces fitted perfectly with each environment.  Nothing sounded out of place or grating to my ears!

I'll also admit that I got a little emotional when I first heard a legacy theme from Homm2 playing!
