It was rescheduled because I was in the ICU for 6 days recently.  They had to get the all clear from the hospital, so rescheduled.  Seeing as I almost died.  Two failed surgeries, to stop internal bleeding..thankfully the third took.  It was .. really really close though.

*nods* Though I still have times when I need help getting dressed, and my mind is even more chaotic then before.  Turns out I have cirrhosis of the liver (though don't drink, or do drugs) and that pushed on my esophagus which caused something called varices to burst.  Still have to find out how advanced it is (on the 6th I talk to a specialist).

Btw..did I answer all the questions?  My mind..she is not what she should be.

Ok I am not sure of the 'normal' hierarchy of nobility.  For purposes of this story..Barons would be about 4th on the chart from the top.  King/Queen, Prince/princess, Viceroy, Baron, Duke, Count, Marquis..with various ranks in some of the terms.  Like grand duke being almost up to baron status, and vicecount being lower then normal count.  So sayeth I..and since it is my world..

Since there are apparently only two of you left..decided to give you two some potent allies..as you know..you are possibly facing a god .. and at minimum a necromancer/druid of very high level.  Keep in mind they are secondary characters, however..you two will still be doing the heavy lifting for the most part.

Roll Knowledge: Nobility - On the determining-who's-left-of-the-royal-bloodline...can I safely assume that's a process that's going to take at least a few in-game days?

Yes it would take a few days, but I have to warn you with all the deaths/possible deaths/etc you are going to have some severe negatives with that roll.  It is almost impossible to tell who was 'home' when the invasion hit, and who might have survived because they were out somewhere.

I'm more interested in the aspect of 'do I need to get rid of this guy NOW or should I try to be less obvious about it'? 'Cause it would be worlds easier on my support from the peasantry (and any surviving nobles for that matter) if I could, say, send him off on a wild goose chase from which he never returns rather than murder him in front of a bunch of refugees.

Well there is good news and bad news.  You made a terrific knowledge check.  There is one other person who you know would have survived, that has a much more legitimate claim on the crown.  The father of the previous king was know to be somewhat of a womanizer..and had several children (illegitimate but blood is what counts when things like this happen..not legitimacy)..now through normal actual accidents (not 'arranged accidents') only one survived.

That man had a son (the former kings illegitimate nephew)..who is still alive.  The son is only 14, so a regent would have to take care of things until his 21st birthday.  You find out the named regent is actually Walker (which is not surprising really as Walker is known to be wise).  Now the bad news...

You have one month to get rid of this guy, OR find the nephew.  The nephew has no clue he is even in line for king..there is only one record which can easily be ... misplaced.  However, the throne can not sit empty for long.  This guy can legitimately claim the throne in one month if the nephew is not brought forth (should he survive long enough to claim it .

May be a moot point, other kingdoms are probably not going to just sit and what the land ripe for conquest just lay there.  You can expect other kingdoms to start gobbling up land pretty soon. Unless allies are secured quickly that is.

So you face a momentous task.  Secure allies, get rid of Count McGreedypants, and rebuild a kingdom.

NOTE : CHARACTERS WILL NOT KNOW THIS.  EVEN KNOWLEDGE ROLLS WITH CRITICAL SUCCESSES WILL NOT REVEAL THIS INFORMATION UNTIL THE CHARACTERS SEE IT FOR THEMSELVES OR EXPERIENCE IT.  Just putting this down here as my memory is piss poor.

Crown of Destiny : Perk - Increases the natural Charisma of the person wearing it (+4 to charisma for the purpose of leadership ONLY (ie does not affect shop prices, or affect appearance in any way..nor give bonuses to charisma based saves).  Wearer is viewed as a natural leader, and people will generally follow them unless given a reason not to.
Curse : Well..it has a mind of its own..and CAN take over a persons mind if it wants..so yeah..there is that.

Acorn of Wisdom : Perk - A 'natural 25' wisdom (ie the highest possible wisdom score).  This includes bonuses to spells that may apply, saving throws, knowledge checks, etc.  Access to information that might not generally be available also.
Curse : Every year that the acorn is in a person's possession they physically age 10 years, and suffer a further -2 to strength and con beyond what the additional age would normally change.

Branch of the one tree - Access to druid spells as if the person was a druid of the same level they are.  Command (normal) animals (up to 6 at a time, but the more commanded the more basic the commands have to be).  Deflect magic (any non area of effect spell that causes damage can be deflected away from the holder..but they do not get to decide where it is deflected to).  One of the more potent artifacts.

Curse : Wielder slowly becomes a druid in every sense of the word..alignment, beliefs, philosophy, etc.  They lose access to any other class (including their original one) and eventually lose interest in doing anything but protecting nature.

The Staff of Kelvin - Perk : Changes with the wielder depending on what class they are.

Curse : The staff once was a force for good, but its owner Kelvin did a great evil with it to save the world..and now it is marred..anybody possessing it for too long slowly becomes evil..and wishes to destroy everything.

Well there is no way to be sure if it is..but it IS a branch...and the bad guys were sure intent on getting it.  Which seems to indicate that it is indeed the item you are looking for.

Sooo...wielding all the items at once makes you an evil druid who everyone listens to and who wants to destroy the world—anyone else think this sounds like our antagonist?

Hmm..interesting thought *grins*.  Anybody realize that it's nemesis (the 'good' version) is 'good'..but good and evil is subjective?
