I think I want to be a Human caster. Though I’m probably going to be pestering you for details on what I can and can’t do since I’ve not played much actual DnD.

Edit: Mytical what kind of details do you need on our characters?

Undefeatable Hero
Duke of the Glade

Edited by gnomes2169 at 04:53, 15 Nov 2011.

Name: Fistandantilus Raistlin Majire. (Obscure reference)
Race: Elf
Height: 5ft10, slouches a bit (about 5 ft 7 w/ slouch)
Gender: Male
Alignment: Chaotic good
Class: Arcane Knife (Mage-theif)
Description: Black hair, white skin from staying indoors and sneeking through dark alleys for years, gold eyes.
Background: A noble born who took to thieving to pass the time. His parents decided to send him to the arcane colleges to curb this disturbing and low-born habit. Raistlin still practiced his acrobatic arts, and used his years of training in the wizard academy to assist in his petty crimes. Eventually he was caught and expelled from the college, but they could not stop him from practicing either of his arts. He adventured for a while after that, using the few spells he had learned to mask his presence and keep himself alive if he was caught. His reputation grew among the thieves and nobles for being good at his work. Not the best, but good. Among the wizards he is known as a deviant and trouble maker who isn't yet worth the time it would take to track down and take out. Mostly because everything he ends up stealing tends to wind up in a less fortunate person's hands. Lately, as in on this last mission where he was hired by the king's advisor to assassinate a certain bandit leader, he has been practicing the art of shadow jumping and bending, trying to combine his two arts into one. He isn't doing too well, but he is starting (if prestige classes are allowed, then Raistlin is going to become a shadow dancer).
Quirks: Raistlin enjoys dancing. Sure he'll pick your pocket while dancing with you, but he will dance with just about anyone. He doesn't like fire all too much and is on an understandably uncertain footing with priests...
Items: Studded leather, Short sword, Crossbow (x32 bolts), lockpick, spellbook, rope, backpack, flint and steel, tent, water flask, field rations (3 days), fancy suit, a few religious symbols that he stole...
Spell focus: Illusion
Known spells:
Lvl 0: Ghost sound (Creates a nonexistent sound at one point.), read magic (can read/ write in magic to spellbook from scrolls and other spellbooks.), Detect magic (range 60ft), Arcane mark (Marks creature with personal runic symbol, unseen (non-glowing) or seen (glowing).)
Lvl 1: Magic missile (1d6+1 magic bolt. Gains an extra bolt every second level.), shield (+4 AC, absorbs magic missiles), sleep (Puts enemies in an area with less than 3hd to sleep for a few rounds. Will save negates.)
Lvl 2: Mirror images (Creates multiple mirror images equal to 1d6+1/2 Mage levels), blur (25% chance of a physical attack missing), Aranganzer's scorcher (sounds oh-so-much better than its 3.5 name...) (Deals 1d6+1 /4 lvl fire damage to a target. Every fifth level another beam is added. The beams also strike all creatures in its path for the same amount of damage.)
Lvl 3: Invisibility (+20 on hide checks. Not dispelled unless you attack a creature or a spell is casted.), lightning bolt (1d6 lightning damage per caster level to all creatures in a straight line. Range of ~200 meters.)
Thieving focus: Hiding, moving silently (still has look for traps, spot, disable traps and the like, but he is most focused on being a sneaky basterd...).

Alright. I was going to go with a pure warrior. However, I think I'll go with a cleric/warrior. If you don't mind, I'd like to throw in domains that would fit the character. Knowledge and Travel. Want him to be one that gets out into the world.

Name: Kerym
Race: Elf
Height: 5'4"
Gender: Male
Class: Cleric/Warrior
Description: Dark brown hair, green eyes, and a light skin color. Wears clothing colored of browns and greens. Several pockets and pouches in various locations, most holding all the bullets for his sling. He keeps a ring in a pocket in his pants, bringing it out when he has need of it. He figured a quick source of light that could be easily hidden away would be a great tool, so he selected a ring, and cast continual flame upon it. He uses it mostly with his journeys into deep caves and such areas. Travel and the gain of knowledge throughout such travels is important to his ways. While moving about the land, he has developed a great joy in swimming when he comes across a body of water, if he has the time.

Items: Trident, Sling w/ 97 bullets, 2 Bolas, Leather armor, Small wooden shield, Signet ring with continual flame cast upon it, Wooden holy symbol, Fishing net*2(light/heavy), Bucket, backpack, rope, tent, canvas, bedroll, spade, flint, steel, handaxe, map case, map, waterskin, inkpen, ink, canteen(Brooke's), 85gold

Prepared spells:
Lvl 1: Endure Elements, Magic Stone, Bless, Magic Weapon, Detect Secret Doors
Lvl 2: Find Traps, Bull’s Strength, Remove Paralysis, Locate Object
Lvl 3: Water Breathing, Remove Disease, Clairaudience/Clairvoyance

Main Skills: Survival, Swim, Knowledge: Geography, Knowledge: Nature, Knowledge: Dungeoneering

Languages: Elven, Common, Gnome

Here's mine.

Name:  Tanis Y'Nnensi
Race:  Drow Elf
Height:  5'8" (which makes her tall for a Drow Female)
Weight:  102 lbs
Sex:  Female
Class:  Water Savant Sorceror/Mage
Description:  Extremely long pure white hair which is usually ornately dressed in an intricate braided pattern, with braids and loose hair falling down her back, shocking red eyes (very almond shaped), skin the color of pale jade.  Like any drow elf she is very slightly built and slender, however she is also considerably stronger than she looks.  As a focused caster she can throw spells with supreme ease.  She is an offensive caster, often drawing considerable aggro to herself, therefore she is also tough/battle hardened and capable of fast, dexterous melee capability.

As a Water Savant, Tanis is cold to the touch and her breath is cold.  To the observer the cold air is visible coming from her mouth.

Tanis is a quiet individual.  She is a typical Drow - suspicious of everyone, even her own race.  She is guarded, silent and effective.  She has a disarming tendency to stare emotionlessly at people.

Other:  Tanis wears heavy silk and woolen robes of various colors, although she favors cobalt and ultramarine.  She also wears a small leather backpack high up between her shoulder blades, a leather sash with three wooden potion bottles across her chest and her frost touch dagger hangs over her right hip.  Hidden within her backpack and robe are several silver shuriken.

Tanis wears an intricate gold and white stone earpiece.  Weaved and pierced through in several places, starting at the tip of her left ear, the small stones hang like fine silver water droplets.  The meaning to this earpiece is believed to be a family tradition.

Spells:  Tanis is an Evocation based Sorceror.

Level 0 - Ray of Frost 1d3 frost damage(per caster level)/Acid Splash 1d3 acid damage
Level 1 - Magic Missile 1d4+1/Shocking Grasp 1d6 electricity damage (max 5d6)/Feather Fall
Level 2 - Gust of Wind/Shatter
Level 3 - Lightening Bolt 1d6/Wind Wall/Sleet Storm
Level 4 - Wall of Ice - Ice plane creates wall with 15 hp +1/level, or hemisphere can trap creatures inside/Ice Storm 5d6 hail damage in area of 40sqf/Dimension Door
Level 5 - Cone of Cold 1d6 cold damage/Overland Flight - fly up to 40ft/Blight - withers 1 plant or 1d6 damage to plant creature

Gnomsey do you want to add pick lock to your list of thief skills?

He always wears chain-armour under his tunic and wore a weathered 'traditional royal-blue' cloak with a silver trim.

Name: Aleron Lairbones
Race: Human
Height: 6’
Weight: (…) Average for that height.
Sex: Male
Class: Mage
Description: Aloof, a touch arrogant, with a lighthearted streak. Reasonably handsome, with a mane of golden-brown hair and nearly-black brown eyes. He’s one of the people tasked with ensuring communications between the envoy and the kingdom remain open and reliable; he also does work as a scribe.

Other: Ranks in forgery, Decipher Script…not entirely sure how skill ranks work…going to be an illusion specialist also (sorry gnomes); Necromancy doesn’t look like it has anything in it I can’t live without for this character.

Inventory:
Backpack
Bedroll
Tent
A mug, knife, fork, spoon, and bowl
Ink (1 vial)
Inkpen
Parchment (10 sheets)(one of which is used)
Sealing wax (1 pound)
Spellbook
Seal(s) of the appropriate kind(s) for someone who would be sending messages between an envoy and his king
1 spare set of reasonably nice robes (such that he wouldn’t get thrown out of the entourage for looking like a beggar)
Soap (1 lb)
Waterskin
Rations
Crossbow
24 bolts for Crossbow
200 starting gold

----------------

What’s the ratio of spells for specialist vs. generalist? I want to have him focus on communication spells and spells that deal with people. Problem is the most obvious schools for that (or so it seems to me) are Illusion and Divination. Gnomes already has Illusion and I don’t want to step on his toes, but by banning Conjuration I would also ban some useful spells for a man in this position.

He could be a generalized caster Kareeah.  Maybe he didn't follow any school.  Especially if he is a wizard.  I think he just won't get to Archmage that way is all.  (Not totally sure on that one though).

Meroe I was under the impression that you have a 'suitor' who is skilled in drawing and has several times said that he'd do anything for you. It would be a logical decision to forward your request to him .

As a specialist, you get a bonus spell from your chosen school each level. Most interestingly the bonus spell can be from any 'level' of spells you can cast.  I am figuring out how many spells a general spell caster will have, and then once I figure what level equivalent level everybody is, that would be how many bonus spells you would be able to cast.

IE if you are 10th level you would be able to cast 10 more spells then a non generalist..but all those 10 spells would be from your chosen school.  Hmm communication hmm?  I will see what I can see.

Not sure how to do the bonus spells lol.  I mean who would want to use them for level 1 spells when they could use it for 5th level spells?  Maybe require the bonus spells to be spread as evenly as possible between the spell levels?

Ok found something that will help.  http://dndsrd.net/wizard.html shows how many spells can be cast per day depending on levels.  That is a 'general' spell caster.

Thinking of increasing the spell list to  http://dndsrd.net/wizardSpells.html

If that is the case, might want to consider being an illusionist.  With things like Magic Mouth, ventriloquism, dream...it seems to have the best communication abilities.  Second would be conjuration.  I am not going to worry about the casters finding spells to learn more.  All 'common' spells (like on the list) will be automatic, only special spells will have to be found and learned.

Wasn't sure on the spell count. I just assumed Cleric level 5, with 16 wisdom.

Hope my items are alright. I wasn't sure if we could use the 200 gold for extra stuff or not. Plus, I didn't actually do the math for what I spent. 71 gold just seemed like a reasonable number.

Also, are we going to worry about feats?

I wouldn't to be honest.  Won't really come into play, however, if you want to go for it.  Let me look over your equipment list

Ok the only issue I have is the magic people seem to be adding to the equipment.  Magic is rare and vary valuable.  I'd like a background reason for somebody having a magical item.  Keep in mind not to take off for 'normal equipment' (backpack, tent, rope, etc) money wise.  As for the rest yeah it's all good.

I'll allow it, because it is nothing major, I'd just like to have a good background reason for it.  It is not the cost of the material of a spell.  Magic is very rare, and very expensive to learn.  The material costs are very small in comparison to what it takes to actually learn the spell to cast it. In some cases an additional spell has to be cast to keep the spell permanent.  Or the first dispel magic cast near you would mean that it is a regular ring again.
