Ivor spending most of the time on the mast, with little to do but drink and wonder how the wide world is faring. As you can imagine Ivor was the first to spot land far in the distance and immediately called out
"Land, Ho!"

A few hours later, they reached the shoreline and laid anchor. Ivor was the last to disembark due to having to climb down the mast. The others were gathering on the beach and Ivor stood close to hear what they had to say.

Quote:
"As we aren't exactly flush with soldiers, it might prove to be a good idea to stay together, apart from occasionally sending ahead a scout", looking at Raistlin and Ivor.

Ivor nods with approval.

Quote:
"I think we should go quickly, instead of hanging around here on the beach. We have no idea if we are being watched right now.  We really should get moving".

", I need to be light-footed in order to be efficient in scouting, therefore the food and supplies need to be evenly shared (weight-wise) by everyone else, I'll carry only essentials and about a days worth of food, just incase."

"Sounds like a plan to me.  Lets sort out the supplies and get moving before it gets dark", Tanis replied.  She dropped her backpack onto the dark sand and looked at the others, waiting for them to join in sharing the load.  "If we are quick about this, we can get moving and set up camp a couple of miles in".

Raistlin spent the journey making sure he and Tanis didn't accidentally bump into one another. He also gambled with Ivor a bit, danced a jig randomly with anyone that happened to be near-by (catching most completely be surprise) and basically staved off madness and boredom in any way possible.

Once they got to the shores Raistlin stayed a bit silent, talking a bit with the crew before grudgingly admitting that he had to interact with the group and, notably and most regrettably, Tanis. He nodded, keeping his face purposefully neutral and left shortly after he told McCade, "I'll scout out the immediate area around the town. Don't worry about loosing me, I'll be back in a day."

Kerym enjoyed the boat ride. For the most part anyway. There was lots of water. Though, maybe a little too much water for too long a period of time. By the end, he was more than willing to get a change to dry land for a while. A day or so would do.

Kerym listened to the others. He had nothing to add in to the planning. It seemed to be taken care of enough. He collected his share of the weight.

"Well, I will take and watch the rear with someone."

Aleron occupied himself during the trip with his spells. Most of them were scrying and attempts at sending magical messages to anyone in Marik who might conceivably be alive and contactable—all of which failed miserably, further confirming the breadth of the devastation. ((Unless they don’t, in which case tell me and I’ll edit.)) His free time (such as it was) he spent making himself popular with the crew by creating elaborate illusions for the amusement of the sailors; it was good practice, and useful to be on good terms with the hired muscle.

But after so many weeks at sea he was quite happy to be on land again.

McCade agrees that the group should stay together, the scouts are not to go far.  Just make sure the path ahead is clear.  Things are uneventful for two days travel into the forest.  Ahead the forest starts to look sickly and decaying, signs that the renegade druids are close.  Ahead moss is starting to show up on just about everything, and McCade calls a halt before you actually reach the line of moss.

"We have to expect that they have those things here, and that they are probably aware of us.  It is almost impossible to sneak up on druids in a forest.  We rest here for now, and prepare for a fight tomorrow morning.  Those who have magic, prepare offensive spells, we are going to need all the offense we can muster."

Kerym takes time to wander around. Throughout his travels, he has not come across this place. He explores, and thinks about the day to come. He thinks about what might be the best course for his magic preparations.

Helping his sling doing better would be ideal. Helping those without any way of striking the creatures from a distance would be a good plan too. He looks around some more, searching for small stones he might pass by.

A breeze of wind comes, blowing into the forest. It feels nice. Kerym wonders what might blow out though, if the wind were to be going in the reverse direction. He did not like that thought.

The journey had been mostly silent.  Everyone was vigilant and the party took their time advancing, trying not to disturb the fauna as much as possible.  However, very soon the sightings of animals grew less and then almost total silence.  Tanis had been aware very quickly of how silent this forest was, even at night.  No owls, no murderous rustlings, no birds.  The forest was becoming almost melancholy.

McCade led the group, often stopping when Ivor or Raistlin found a place to rest, either for food or sleep.

When the sights of possible druid habitation were obvious, McCade called the group together.  Everyone settled down for what would be a restless night.  People too anxious to really eat or sleep.

Tanis found a nice secluded and sheltered hollowed out area beneath an ancient tree, its low branches covering her almost entirely from view.  Inside it was warm and the woodlice scurrying around her strangely comforted her.  Her drow eyes far better designed at seeing in the dark than her companions, meant she could work in her hideout in near pitch blackness, preparing her spells and her backpack.  Finally she settled in and meditated.

Ivor struggles to light a fire; fell winds foiled his every attempt. Raistlin offered to light it for him since it is no trouble if you have magic. Ivor declined the offer.

"The day I need to turn to magic to accomplish such a mundane task is the day I meet my ancestors with shame"

As he spoke the last word sparks flickered; igniting the fern and setting the wood ablaze. Ivor chuckled and prepared some meat to cook.
After Ivor was done with his feasting and drinking he retired to a nearby oak, which he climbed with haste, despite the fact that it was mostly bare.

He took with himself a few bottles and some scraps to last him to the end of first watch.

The group was aware that they were being watched as they made it further and further into the decaying section of the forest.  Almost three hours after they had crossed the line, that seemed to separate the decaying area from the rest of the forest, the hint of heat starts wafting over the group.  As the temperature rises higher and higher, several forms can be seen surrounding the group.

Looking like misshapen blobs of magma (earth and fire mixed) they have two eyes made of pure fire.  It seems that these creatures might have been the second wave of the attacks on the Kingdom.

Along their way, Kerym prepared for the battles they were sure to have. Specifically, he was wanting to prepare some of the others. He casts two of his prepared Magic Stone spells, and splits the stones among the non-magical members of the group. He wasn't sure if there would be more plants that shouldn't be touched or not, and this would allow them to do their best to avoid contact with them.

As they came upon the magma creatures, Kerym wasn't sure if he was pleased or displeased about them not being the plant creatures. All he knew was, this was not a good thing. He called forth a Spiritual Weapon to help in the fight they got in to.

Raistlin, out of instinct, cast the spell mirror images when the things were spotted, causing all creatures to momentarily see a withing mass of shifting light before seven images of Raistlin standing roughly around where he was. He always has that spell memorized... Next he casts the spell lightning bolt on one of the monsters, making a nice hole in it but unfortunately not causing very much harm.

As the heat had begun to hit her, Tanis was already revving up to cast some ice spells.  When the first shapes appeared, Raistlin was the first to cast, but as Tanis well knew, Lightening wasn't going to do much.

Tanis first cast a Wall of Ice, attempting to surround the group of molten shapes.  This proved difficult, but as their heat began to melt the Ice Wall, the molten shapes began to hiss as the droplets cooled them.  Tanis rapidly fired off several Rays of Frost, causing the molten creatures to omit a strange gurgling howl.  Two of the creatures were hit twice each and one (at the front) after receiving most of the Frost strikes, collapsed and shattered into hundreds of shards of ice.  Tanis also cast a massive Sleet Storm, hitting the monsters repeatedly with damaging hail, causing the molten creatures to stumble and crash into each other.  "Hit them with anything cold or throw water at them for Vulcoors Sake!!!", she yelled over the billowing steam and roar of hissing.

"Ever seen a deadly snowball?" Raistlin asked Ivor, casting snowball swarm on a near section of the battle, away from the others but on top of the one he had damaged before. Chunks of ice and snow the size of fists pounded down on it and a few others, slowing and damaging them, though again it wasn't too great or powerful, but still more effective than the lightning. "Now you've seen fifty."

And with that, Raistlin's list of spells that were effective against these magma elementals was exhausted. He couldn't cast any of his other memorized spells without hitting the others (snowball swarm, lightning bolt, color spray), or healing the elementals (ray of fire, flaming arrow) and the other spells were not going to be effective (Magic missile... lol, acid arrow).

In fact, the only spell that could help him was the other defensive spell he had memorized... Blur. It looked like he would have to go into melee, (crossbow bolts won't be very effective vs. rocks) so he quickly cast blur and drew his blade.

Ivor feeling a wee bit helpless against the magma creatures (for he couldn't get close enough to do damage, even if he did his sword would surely melt/become useless)

He used water from his skins to battle the beasts and dirt from under his feet. .

Tanis upped her game and laid down a murderous arc of Ice Storm, Sleet and Ice Wall.  Throwing everything she had at the molten creatures.  She managed to take out two more, who shattered spectacularly in front of them, showering Tanis in a fine mist of ice particles.  But the creatures were so hot, she was running out of options.

"I need help here!!", she yelled.

Raistlin had decided to use an unconventional means of killing these things. He had decided to do so when his sword had stabbed into one of the creatures and come out without the blade attached... (-1 short sword)

Thinking quickly but still loosing two of his illusory copies to the golem, he tumbled back and ran to his pack, taking out the rope. I pray to all the god this works... The magma being that had been chasing him passed through the snowball swarm and quickly hardened and cooled. The ones who had been caught in the middle (all two of them) had shattered. tying a loop off in the rope, Raistlin lassoed the hardened golem and gave a hard tug. the nearly immobile creature was caught off-balance and shattered once it hit the ground. "Perfect!"

Hearing Tanis's call over the hissing and steaming of the elemental-golems, Raistlin yelled back, "Cool them down and grab this!" He tossed her one end of the rope.

Aleron assisted by throwing up illusionary walls of ice ((Silent Image)) to replace Tanis’ melting ones, placing them to herd the creatures into advantageous positions. He reasoned that having been faced with the real thing the magma creatures would be unlikely to question the existence of the fake. Once he’d managed to get multiple targets into an ideal position ((with or without the illusions)) he unleashed a magically assisted bellow ((Shout)). Where concentration and combat permitted, he peppered the fiery foes with Ray of Frost.
