Request to modders

Hi all, I'm a mapper and I'm currently working on some "greek temple in the clouds"-thing, and therefore I need round pillars. In the Editor, I found what I searched, the model is found here:
Model:Arenas\Interface\NewFort_screen\column1

Now what my problem is, if I want to make something like this...

...I need only single pillars, not all of them in a circle.

Now what do I have to change in the geometry that only one pillar (I don't care which) appears ?

Thanks in advance

I have no idea. find a model with a single pillar in it. and then copy it by using effects.

(oh and btw, you are going to suffer lol. that seems very tedious to make)

You sure? The roof is almost done, right now I'm working on the walls(I want them with windows).

This shows how far I am with the building:

Hm I really hope there is a solution, since they did the same thing in the citadel mod...
http://heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?TID=36418
...for example the T7, or did they just made the Hydras lower part of the body transparent(like I tried) ?

Well if it won't work(I still hope it will), does anyone know of a model big enough which looks like a cylinder?

I suggest that you check the map editor. I know you can use all of the objects that can be put on a map. I don't know how to use the objects which appear inside the towns

how do you turn the model 90°??

Too bad it's not possible to just cut one from the Library of enlightenment.

I was messing around and found that if I took a Lighthouse down -4, all that would be needed is the removal of the light. (Or covered-up)

Funny, I could stack an "LoE" on top of Dwarven columns at 14z or several of those cones (resized) but could not stack it on several of my buried lighthouses. What property is it, that allows one object to be "elevated" in the editor while other objects cannot?

That would look terrible !

You can't turn models, I tried that too, but it doesn't work. I rotate the objects I put on the map.

Do you notice the Obelisks in the pic? They mark the middle of my objects. Each roof part is linked to one Obelisk-Object. Like this I can construct a temple being free with it dimensions.

About town models, I still wanna make a tutorial cause it's not that hard, but I don't have the time, student, see ?

@Markkur: Congratz to your new website
I can remove the lighthouse light, but it would look awful. I want to have a clean long cylinder(maybe with a cuboid at the bottom like in the LoE, but it won't be necessary).

The editor is EVIL.

I meant, erase everything, just keep the pillars from the library of enlightment.

Ok I worked on it a while now and I'm still pretty upset that I once again depend on splitting parts of objects and combining them to new ones instead of just creating my very own models, but I think it looks fine now.

A thing that is still annoying me is that the texture is so pixelated (I had to make the parts of the Library bigger for a believable size), so I want to ask, since fiur did it with creatures, is there a possibility that I can make the textures of the Library more detailed ?

Thx in advance

Determination...how refreshing.

Looks good as it is El_Chita., although I imagine if you succeed in the detailing you should probably experiment with roof color.

Probably a silly question; Have you tried to open those type of files in Gimp, etc. like the modders do with the creature files?

Is this work for the map you've been working on for quite a spell?

Glad to see your still at-it.

I don't use Gimp, but like Fauch said you can open the textures with it. Yes, I copied the dds-files and changed them.

I will add some pillars and stairs to the front door, and the cloud theme will survive as well, but yes, I had to make a compromise

yes and no, this is a smaller map (I want to finish a map for once), but both maps use the same data-folder. So when I create a new object in Al-Safir, I can use it in this map, too. The dwarf door you can see in the picture was originally created in Al-Safir. So you can say I'm working on both maps at the same time

About the roof, I can just make the tiles smaller, you're right it doesn't fit like this, but I really hope there is a possible way to make the walls look more detailed.

@El_Chita

I don't know that program either but I have a couple of ideas.

About the roof; I don't think it looks bad. This is fantasy after all and not downtown Berlin However if possible it could look better as you said.

Why does it read like you are not considering color as a detail tool?

Thin lines of the right color on the edges of the pillars "might" look good.Gold to match your door-frame should look fine. Less certain to me is the roof but if you cannot alter it, maybe picking the darkest color from those tiles and trying the same lines on columns or walls?

One last thought about the roof. You mentioned changing the size of the existing tiles. Could you "cut" the dome off of the Library of E. and make a large one for the structure's center (behind the door) and then say double-up smallers ones for the rest of the structure?

@Fauch and fiur:
Yes, I want more details in the wall structure. If you zoom in the library's texture, you'll know what I mean. Do you know how to do it ?

@Markkur: I'll try what I can do, but I just wanna say that I don't want to spend too much time in retexturing, since I'm not that good at it.

I already did that, but now I want an inner courtyard within my building, with a statue and stuff. Otherwise, it would just look like a big library of enlightment. As long as I can keep my creativity within the editor's possibilities, I'll use it.

I'll upload a pic with the progress soon, but I'm quiet busy right now ^^

I'm not that good in retexturing either. often I just use textures from other models or textures I find on internet.

yes I may help you just give me something to work with

But why cant you use the library.... (it looks pretty close the the picture of the building you really wanna have....)

With some tweaks its possible to make it looks very close....

even be able to "walk" inside.....

Yeah sure, in the data folder, you'll find the dds file here:

Texture:_(Model)\Buildings\Snowed\LibraryOfEnlightenment-Advmap_05_Library of Enlightenment.(Texture)

I need the library dds-file more detailed, and if you don't mind, all of it. I want to make the single parts much bigger than they are in the normal game.

But I use parts of the library, you can see it in one of my previous posts(the one with the dwarven door on it). If that's not what you mean:

I want to make a building with 2 floors. I already made the stairs and there are doors which lead into the inner courtyard and on the terrace. It looks kinda like this:

Edit: One more thing, I noticed that Nival made the parts of the walls where the inner pillars are (also the ones on the screen with the dwarven door) darker than others to generate shadows.(You can see it above the dwarven door, the dark splits) Is there a way to remove those as well ?

with gimp you can lighten them. but it may take a few tries to get it right. or just copy paste a part of the texture where there is no shadow.
