Suspending the game

I have finished Inferno and Sanctuary campaigns. I have seen numerous bugs but I endured the annoyance. Then I started Stronghold and heard the Tears bug. Left it and started Haven. But now, I've had enough. Imperial Griffin's special doesn't work, Sun Crusader's charge doesn't work, etc. I decided to not play the game until a decent patch is released because my game is being being slaughtered with these bugs and years later when I remember H6 campaign I don't want it to come as a bad memory.

I have tried to defend the game when people attacked but now I am really out of my temper and really understand these people. How can they release this game in this situation? How can anyone in their team not come across these bugs as there are many in every point of the game? They have postponed the release that again and again for this? I could wait one more year easily, I have waited this long already.

I just wish I hadn't started playing and played it clean when it is patched. But better late than never. Hope they patch soon.

I wan not here when H5 was released and didn't play its initial release only started it playing with TOE which is a brilliant. Was the initial release this bad?

What is the Tears bug?  Since the game came out I've been to this forum sparingly and haven't seen this bug described.

I ask b/c the only campaign I've been doing is the Stronghold, and I'm tears

If you have chosen Tears, you will be unable to continue the campaign at the end of the 2nd map Look at the Stronghold campaign treat and you'll see the details.

It was worse than bad ... it was plain terrible H6 is at least playable and has a working multiplayer mode. H5 had no multiplayer, was bugged to hell and had serious memory leaks which caused the game to crash very fast.

The bug is that if you selected Tears before meeting Sharkas, there will be a dialogue window that pops up and never closes.

I am wondering the same. Most bugs are not game-breaking, but they're pretty obvious just the same. Just playing through two campaigns I've come across dozens of them, which should have been found with just plain playtesting. Effects and talents that work opposite of what they're supposed to (like Pathfinding actually reducing movement points, Freezing effects that make it look like the unit(s) get +100% movement, Imperial Griffin Dive ability not doing any damage, etc ...) are things you come across regularly.

Any self-respecting game developer takes time to do some thorough playtesting in a reiterative way, with bugfixing rounds in between. It appears that they didn't do that, in this case. Or perhaps the game was way worse than this, and this is actually the best yet (no, I didn't play the demo).

Same here. I used to defend the game from everything, but one thing I couldn't stand is the bugs. Choosing magic hero for Stronghold, and the only decent magic unit is bugged? Seriously.

I'm still trying to figure out why my game crash too often.

Playing as Haven made it unplayable when 2 of the Elites can't use their abilities Seriously tough, I hope it won't take then the time it became H5 to be perfect for H6 to be perfect.

Don't defend the capitalists industry (it does bad software), never pay for code, use piracy - it has a money-back-guarantee that works

Support the game when it deserves and buy it only AFTER it made you pay for it - by being a masterpiece (like HoMM3 is)

paying BEFORE is like ... making no sense...

I don't like piracy. I would pay for it when it is patched anyway. And I don't like H3 that much

What is worse is that they knew about all these bugs for months before the official release and they did nothing. I mean the game was tested in various phases: VIP testing, private closed, public closed and so on and so forth. Outrageous!!!

I think they should have waited a bit more to release the game and then make a major release with all the bugs fixed and a good LAN system
H5 ToE is excellent, I never found any bugs

I'm surprised you all rushed to buy it as soon as it came out. I at least try to see some reviews first. though, the marks seem unusually high, any other game would get slaughtered by reviewers if it had that many obvious bugs.

The reviews can't be trusted, very often the authors are reviewing names, not games. StarCraft II received some grand score while it was practically StarCraft I with new graphics and daft story. If you change the name ONLY and keep everything else, the game wouldn't get more than 3 or 4 out of 10. Same in our case - no other game with that many bugs, balance flaws, etc. would get more than 5 or 6 out of 10 but the brand Might & Magic and especially the Heroes part adds 2-3 more points.

The reason I pre-ordered it was because it is one of my favorite gaming series and like with other great games, I like to obtain a collector's edition. Collector's editions are usually not available after game launch, so I usually reserve a copy as soon as I can.

I can only hope that future patches / expansions can improve it; I already liked Heroes V, but the TotE expansion really made it fantastic. Let's hope that for VI, it goes the same way.

I definitely went tears and just finished the 4th map.  I can screenshot it if you want, but I didn't have a problem

Sorry for hijacking the thread a bit, but have you even played Starcraft 2 seriously?
the factions DO NOT play in the same way as they did in Brood War - at all. For instance, the Protoss play very differently with the Warp tech in SC2. And for some reason I can't find units such as Ravens, Hellions, Shredders, Stalkers, Void Rays, Oracles, Vipers, Banelings and Corruptors in Brood War.

Starcraft 2 deserved high scores because of extremly few bugs, completly different factions, super smooth multiplayer system, perfect balance between the factions and near perfect  balance within them, interactive campaign and a lot of very creative missions (not just go kill all Zerg players like what was often the case in the original - I did like the darker story in the original better though)
Staying true to the spirit of the original = cloning it?
I am a 100% sure that Sc2 would be less successfull if it was a completly different game from the original

HoMM3 is much more like a clone of H2 than SC2 is to the original

I have played it, yes. The mechanics are identical with very small changes and the fact that the factions do not play in the same way as they did before (which is not completely true) does not mean much. It's the same game, re-skinned and with new units and tactics. Conceptually it's StarCraft I, 1:1.

Now just change the "2" with "1" and you'll be again correct.
Besides, that's not my point. What I'm saying is that the same game which is NOT called StarCraft would have been given a very low score because its concept is obsolete for several years now and it's been overused in the past. StarCraft is a different thing though, it has never "died" in terms of popularity and the first game is still being played despite its age and the presence of its successor (to be on topic - re-skinning Heroes III and adding new creatures wouldn't make it a "new game"). If you remove the name however, StarCraft 2 will never get even half of the score it has received after its release.

You are really over-stretching it here.

Kind of in the same boat.. I'm SLOWLY playing the campaigns every now and then.. but not super-enthusiastically cuz of all the bugs. I finished making a multi-player map (just needs to be playtested and adjusted) which can't even be used yet because it's impossible to play user-created maps in multiplayer at the moment (unless hotseat), LOL.

They really trolled us by releasing it in such a state.

I read somewhere that the stronghold campaign bug can be avoided if you don't level tears or blood until scenario 2. Ridiculous that you have to make sure and not get too much blood/tears rep until then though.

It's a travesty that the consumers allow developers to release such crap products.

Yes, the consumers.  When you buy the game, and stop playing it, but don't return it, you're telling the developer, "No, it's okay, keep my money, I know you meant well."  And what the developer hears is that it's okay for them to release unfinished software, because people will buy anything.

If you want to effect any change whatsoever in the way Ubisoft conducts their business, you have to take the game and return it and demand your money back.  There's no way they'll fix the problem otherwise.

(By "the problem" I don't mean the bugs; I mean the developing process that makes it okay for them to release a game that's so full of bugs it makes locusts look like crickets.)

You see the same thing in games like Rusty Hearts.  The developer hides behind a promise to fix all the broken mechanics and disruptive bugs, all the while asking you for money for an unfinished product.

Developers need to stop using Beta as an excuse not to hire professional testers.  There is no way an untrained gamer will find all of the bugs that a tester will, because it's not the gamer's job to find bugs.

...And people wonder why I think Erwan's head looks like a--hrm...
