Another Community Map

Does anyone remember the map, Pilgrim's Progress? It was HC's first community map project, and it can be found here.

For those of you who don't know, a community map is a heroes III map made by several authors. It's designed for amateur mapmakers, ones who don't know ERM, or simply people who don't have time to finish a map. People sign up and take turns in creating areas, and those who can do ERM scripting put in the scripts. Pilgrim's Progress took a while, as  only one person had a copy of the storyline, but we finished it, and I think it's a decent map.

Is anyone still interested in doing one? I've selected a possible map and cleaned it up to show the coastline. dowload it here .

If you are, sign up in this thread, and your name will be added to the list. We go in order down the list. I haven't done anything other than converting a bitmap to an actual heroes map, so the first person to sign up will have the most freedom. Remember, don't do anything too big, mess up the coastline, or edit others' portions without permission. Other than that, you can put anything anywhere and use the underground without limit (save the size and editing others' stuff).

Have fun!

It is the BOLDED person's turn to make a portion of the map.

Warning! This map now requires GnollKing's Heroes II Map Objects Patch, available here.

Hell, why not ?

But i need to know first : Will commanders be activated ?
Will scripts like living skull, treasure chest 1 be active ?
Is it a map for multiplayer battle, or a solo map ?
Are we forced to keep rought ground ?

A great idea, I would very much like to take part

About the ERM, I think the map shouldn't be wogified, but we should add the scipts we like to be used in timed events, to give the mapmaker more freedom.

As long as someone comes up with a story and starts the map, I'd be more than happy to continue. I'm not that great at stories, so I'd rather not start the map.

The map's not going to need any WoGify script options, as it is a WoG map. They'll mess with the custom scripts.

As for the question on multiplayer or solo, the previous one was single player. It doesn't make sense to do a multiplayer map. I'm also not aware of a very active WoG multiplayer scene.

You're not forced to keep the terrain, but you must make sure that you don't mess up the coastline.

I think I'd try to contribute too. The idea looks interesting and fun to me. I'm not pro at mapmaking and few times I tried to make my own map, I realized that I wanted to create too much, so I dropped them soon. I think I also could help with scripting.

Also a few things:
1. the terrain around the coastline looks like it was created from random scraps of terrain textures, however most of this can be fixed without altering the coast.
2. I see that the undergroud is completely empty. Are you going to modify it somehow or will the authors be allowed to have something there?
3. what objects can be used in this map? only standard objects from WoG 3.58f or will others be allowed too? (like the ones from new objects' patch, Gnollking's objects from H2 or other objects from custom maps)

@Solitaire:
The coastline is like that because I spent ~20 mins editing a map picture so that I could import it into h3. The coast should be fine.

If you read what I wrote, you would see that the underground is free to edit.

As for object patches, we all have to agree on one and stick to it.

@Magissia:
We are NOT using WoG scripts. We will write our own, to fit the map.

The point is, we write the story as we go along. If you can create a script that uses mithril, you can use it.

I started the map already yesterday, and will post it later today. I made it so that the hero starts with just some troops at the Western shores of the mainland. As I said earlier, I am not a talented story-teller, so I'll leave that to someone else. But nanyways, I decided to go with the classic one - the hero was on his way, sailing, to meet an old friend. The friend is barbarian, like the hero. I made a new portrait for our main hero, who is, by the way, named Grubb. He is a respected barbarian warrior, who unfortunately had no experience in the fine art of sailing, which caused him to wreck his boat.. The first community map, the Pilgrim's Progress, also used some images that weren't already in the game (such images are, for an example, portraits and other decorative pics used in events). I suggest that if anyone uses these, they should be placed into the /maps folder, to not make things complicated.

I used some ERM in my portion (the best I can), for an example a few events that have choices, and a special axe for Grubb. Currently the axe is just re-named Centaur's Axe, I'll come up with some sort of story and purpose for his axe a bit later. Anyone is free to suggest anything, however! Of course, our hero must find a starting town from the lands, so I made one and it's surroundings quite close to the starting point.

I also added a timed event, where anyone, who uses ERM, should report the flags & variables they used, to avoid ERM errors. That event is also used to execute all the ERM commands at the START of the map. If anyone wishes, can add their scripts to that event. My own ERM scripts I placed on another event, and it would be appreciated that no-one edits the scripts without my permission.

The name and the story of the map shall be created by someone else later..

If anyone has comments or questions or if I should edit something, please, tell me

@Edit;  Okay! My part is done! download here: MediaFire (place everything to /maps folder).

Oh my..
Of course.

For the next map maker: play the map before continuing it

And about the coastline; the current map maker can fix it along as the map expands..

Uh.. I'll try to find some time to play this tomorrow (otherwise it'll be Sunday) and on Sunday (or later if I don't have time tomorrow) I'll try to add something to the map.

Edited the map. Download

Added a not yet complete quest to undo work done by an evil wizard. This is not necessarily quest that must be completed in order to win however completing it would give some bonuses. You can make your own quests to depend on completion of this one. Also, Gnollking's Heroes II objects are needed.

And for those who yet don't have the map objects, follow the link on my signature. Download the *.zip from MediaFire, unpack all to Data folder, and run the MaEdPa10.bat file. To get the new objects into the editor, just choose whichever *.txt file you wish from Data\GK's MapEdPatch folder

Magissia, I hope you didn't start editing the map yet, 'couse I had to edit some of my scripts.. Anyways, here's the latest map version: MediaFire
