My reasons for not liking H6 does not necessarily coincide with other people's reasons for liking H6.

As a very elitist fan of "Conaghem's Heroes" (ie. pre-V Heroes installments - including the bittersweet IV), I am severely disappointed with Might and Magic: Heroes VI.

You have literally zero excuse for doing this poorly - and as for changing the developers again - just collect the original NWC crew already (how are you going to do this is not my problem) and give us something that lives up to the mark's name.

Because ever since you bought the rights to use the mark, things have been just getting worse.

First of all - why change the name, for F's sake? Is it supposed to be a mild way of telling us "No Might and Magic X, sorry"? What in the name of...all holy and sacred things on this world is that supposed to be, Ubi?

Second of all - while that one is more related to H5 if anything - reboot of the series from ground up is NOT the way to go. Why kill an elaborate and epic-scale universe with over 17 years of history with this almost unrelated piece of [...]? At this point you might as well rename the franchise to something completely else, since I don't think it is worth being called Might and Magic universe.

As for the game itself - well, it's fairly crappy on its own - if you call this...thing a "townscreen", then for those are the dragons. (for you, too, it seems)
The game is just feels so bland, bad, and also - including a mainstay faction in an expansion pack? Seriously? You could've come up with something more inventine than that.

Also, the whole design is just plain ugly - one of the things that were so good about NWC's Heroes game were the easily recognizable creature designs - you could tell that a vampire WAS an actual VAMPIRE and skeletons WERE just SKELETONS. It's all just fancy-nancy and all over the damn place. That doesn't feel right.

And how COME A CERBERUS be a TWO-HEADED creature? While in the Greek mythology there were 50- and even 1- headed Cerberi, there NEVER was a two-headed one.
That's not how "making something different" works.

And don't even get me started on DRMs and other online-related crap, since it's ABSOLUTELY AND COMPLETELY REDUNDANT for this series - nobody needed online achievements or ugly hero quirks in H3 (while the Internet wasn't as prominently used back then, that's still not an excuse)

SO Ubisoft/whatever company is developing the game right now - you better give up, because you simply. Are. Doing it. WRONG.

Why can't all the developers nowadays get something done right...

Yes, I am quite harsh, but I have a right to be harsh, since there's no excuse in form of "bankruptcy menace".

What's with people and Cerberus with two heads? As far as I remember, there was only ONE Cerberus in Greek mythology and only ONE Minotaur in Greek mythology and only THREE Gorgons (one of them was Medusa). But did people complain why are some brown cows now Gorgons? Since when HoMM takes places in ancient Greece? Did people said "oh why are there zounds of Minotaur Kings now? Do they all have their kingdoms?" Some sure did, but no one stopped playing HoMM because of that.
I don't mean to sound offensive, but people tend to make old games act like bibles and anything that's different than that is heresy. This is their game and their rules, if they make something that looks like Unicorn and call it Cyclops it's their right - look at World of Warcraft, flying mounts of the Horde are obviously manticores, but they are called wyverns ingame, and I haven't encountered a single player that objected against that.
This is exactly the same in Elder Scrolls forums, were people object about female Argonians having breasts despite the fact they had them in first game. It's not anatomically correct for a fantasy race is the most retarded argument in history of arguments.
And again, this is same in Mount & Blade forums, where majority of people claim for more then 5 years that dual wielding is unrealistic and that cutting more then one target is unrealistic (what the f...)?, but then again, having ability to wield 4 indestructible lances of doom is a-OK.
Ok, rant off. I apologize in advance if this sounded rude, but hearing something way too many times pushes my buttons in a bad way. I personally like art style in H6 but haven't played it more then few matches. It has the same flaw as H5 for me, and that would be that 3D makes it too slow. By the time I play 7 days in H5 I could play month or two in older games. Maps were more richer in 2D games as well. I also heard that H6 was or is buggy as hell, so that's one huge minus as well. Can't say more then that.

It wouldn't have hurt if they actually looked like dogs and not like some weird fusion between rats and shrimps.

The HoMM gorgons are based on DnD gorgons.
They probably chose the name because it sounds cooler than the alternatives. vv

Because those games didn't repeatedly try to hit me over the head with their heavy-handed symbolism.

I agree. They tried to improve upon the game mechanics in order to make the gameplay more fast-paced, but I don't think they succeeded in their mission.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I defend the H6, it's just nitpicking to say things like "liches are stupid because they are not skeletons". As far as I am concerned Cerberus can be battlemech with long range artillery as long as there is background story behind it.
And kudos to you good sir for replying without flaming or being immature, I really appreciate that In the end, each to his own, eh.

Brand name was changed for obvious franchising reasons, it places all might&magic titles under one umbrella. This means that setting, artwork, lore etc are going to be consistent more or less.

When ubi took the rights it's not like they got a bible of nwc heroes with all worlds, npcs, notable heroes/locations. They could not possibly do the old world justice and would rather avoid the inevitable fanrage of messing it up. It's for the better if you ask me..

Townswcreens are pretty decent nowadays, pretty close to H3 even. If we exclude a few minor inconsistencies. It's the early.. screens that sucked. God those sucked badly.

And of course they HAD to add a main faction in the addon, with 5 factions in the game they had little choice. Blargh. Anyway H5 did not add stronghold until its last addon and it was awesome, nobody complained there.

Personally I find graphical style pretty cool and distinctive even if in my eyes heroes is more about classical looks. But I like both in their own way. It just needs less cheesiness Some changes ofc sucked but that's more of a matter of individual taste.

Elvin plus 100

God whay really gets on my nerves is that even in 21st century conservatism is so strong in some people. Or is it me being so open-minded? I mean cmon things couldn't and shouldn't stay the same as in Heroes 3! The game wasn't that great anyway! Well, very good for its time, but to play it now? I just cant, I tried qnd got bored after half an hour. And I have never liked h3 lore, I like my fantasy as a fantasy not a wierd hybrid with sci-fi..

I just don't like sequels that to me are outclassed in every department by their predecessors, sorry.
And then there's the development history.
Just be glad that no one working for Ubi have received any death threats (at least not to my knowledge).

Well, you just summed up my opinion of H6. See how tastes can be different ? And this has nothing to do with conservationism ... Hell, I loved H4, so you can't call me conservationist

Well, there are things like caramelized ginger and whatnot.
But that's not the point.

I'm not saying that every Cerberus has to be 3-headed dog.
But the design in H6 is just...

I don't mind having a two-headed dog from hell in the game.
But it bothers me that it's called Cerberus and is supposed to be related to the Greek myth.

As always, half-knowledge is the worst knowledge.

Here you find this:
Quote:
the depiction and background surrounding Cerberus often differed across various works by different authors of the era. The most notable difference is the number of its heads: Most sources describe or depict three heads; others show it with two or even just one; a smaller number of sources show a variable number, sometimes as many as 50 or even 100.

But you didn't find anything about a Cerberus NOT looking that way either, but you did find something about the number of heads, I take it, and that number isn't exclusively 3.
