I think it will work as long as you have WoG 3.58 or later.

The atmoshphere is great, the story is ok too. Well, just ok. The characters is what pisses me off. The way they talk, they way they behave and all that. I like none of them.

Anton in my eyes, is an Isabel wanna-be. Actually now that I played the second Haven map too, I see him as an Isabel wanna-be and a Linking Park fan too. I bet he cuts himself.

Anastasya is even worse. She's a freaking Bella wanna-be! Who could possibly be worse than a Bella wanna-be?!

Ah yeah, Kiril. Yes, he can be worse. I believe I have expressed my feelings about this character in previous posts in this thread so I don't need to do it again.

I rank Kiril probably as the worst video game character ever. He makes Anton look good, and that is very insulting for Kiril as a character.

Screw that, I rank Kiril as the worst fictional character ever. Try as I might now, I can't think of anyone I dislike more. He looks like he came out of Uwe Boll film.

And then there's Irina. Bringing the Far West to the Far East, yee-haw! *Pukes*

But honestly, no one is worse than Kiril. Not even Sandor who along with Kraal, they are secretly Drag Queens. I mean, seriously have you seen them up close from those cut scenes? They look like they did not clean properly the make-up from last night!

Oh I know that hasn't got much to do with the story. Yeah, Sandor is the least dislikeable character from the lot. And if he gets to kill Goink and Kraal, he could even turn out to be tolerable. But there's no such luck, huh?

And anyway, why are we even comparing them to Heroes V? Even if they an improvement, well, I don't agree but so you say... So even if they are an improvement over Heroes 5, they still suck!

Have your expectations been hurt so much so as to like something that bad? I'm better off watching Twilight than paying attention to those teensies trying to play war.

Ahh whine-whine... Do I have to? Why do I have to? What am I supposed to see there? What does WoG have to do with anything?

Ok, I'll give it a try, I guess.

I'll try, even though I never wanted anything do do with WoG solely because of those pesky santa gremlins.

There's no Santa Gremlins in the map. I'm not being smart or playing a practical joke on you. Just play a short bit of it and tell me how you think it compares to the way H6's story treats you.

Well, looks like my version isn't the right one. The hero portraits were missing and annoying windows kept popping up all the time, to remind me of it.

Anyway, I did read the introductory story and played a couple of it. What are you asking of me? If I like it or not?

Well, the story was nicely written although amateurishly too but that did not bother me. What bothered me was that it was too much. Between this and UbiHole's silly one-liners, there has to be a middle ground, right? Which is something that H3 and H4 got about right. Well, almost... I wouldn't buy it if it was a book but for a video game, it's nice.

But I realized one thing. What plays a big factor in not liking H6's characters is the voice acting. Though the voice actors themselves may be good, the way they sound like makes them feel way out of place. Only Anton's actor gives off a somewhat nice feeling to it, but it's still very overdone. Kiril's voice actor helps a lot in making me hate his character though.

Reading the lines of Corribus in this one, made me imagine his voice just the way I liked in my head. That helped alot in liking the character. Though to tell you the truth, I can't say I was excited either.

Most of all I liked the atmosphere created. I liked the description they gave for the Ogres beyond the gate and the peasants as tribals in that island. It made me feel like I was going to explore the world of Heroes from the start.

But still I felt that such huge blocks of text, forcing themselves to your face with every action you take are unacceptable for a video game. They should be offered only in demand.

Thanks. Showing you Last Hope is a good litmus test for gauging what exactly you do expect (no offence). I always felt this campaign had much more flavour to it in terms of plot than anything NWC or Ubisoft have ever produced, and there is a wide consensus on this at Celestial Heavens too. Far better characters, better storyline, more purpose and maturity - even if it can become more like a virtual novel at times. But I wouldn't expect any apology for that, since lack of detail is half of the problem with H5 and H6. In Heroes the story is traditionally an excuse for the gameplay, but in Last Hope this is inverted.

To me Last Hope and Corribus' other H3 maps represent the very highest benchmark for storytelling in Heroes, much better even than a considerable majority of commercial video games, and if you had started dismissing the story in THUNK and giving it ones and zeroes out of five, I would've viewed you as being totally unreasonable on this issue.

LOL, Cepheus, thanks for the plug.

I understand the walls of text will not be for everyone.  Then again, my intent isn't and wasn't to please everyone.  It's to please people who like a good story and don't mind reading.  I always saw H3 as a perfect vehicle to tell a story.

As to whether it's amateurish... well, I agree to a point.  The four maps together have well over two hundred pages of text.  When the campaign is all done, I suspect it will have well over six hundred.  That's a lot of text with only little ol' me to do the editing.  Text in the first four maps was never really proofed extensively and it certainly wasn't externally edited, which professional novels benefit from.  Reading over those versions now, I admit the story does have a raw feel to it, and that's something I intend to correct, and sooner rather than later.  (Because when you revise text several years later, that's pretty much equivalent to an external review).  However, writing aside, I'd put the story told in Last Hope up against any story written for a computer game - user made or "professional" - and I mean *ever*.

There's no comparison between what a dedicated fan can produce and what a professional team of game engineers can produce.  I've spent hundreds of man hours writing Last Hope.  No publisher will ever be able to dedicate that much time to pure writing.  Most gamers don't appreciate it, in any case.  So is it really any surprise that the stories of the "professional" campaigns are watered down and uninteresting?  Hell, forget H6 and H5 - the campaign stories of H2/H3 weren't terribly interesting either, were they?

I don't think so.

Amateurish doesn't mean bad. Just not polished. Sometimes though that beats the dry feeling that a streamlined professional work results into, which is also apparent in H6's story.

I tried it and, unsurprisingly the story-telling is about 20 times better than what we have in Heroes V and Heroes VI. It could be improved of course but it keeps you interested and does not look thrown there just for the sake of it - on the contrary, it fits quite well. Then again, I haven't had the slightest doubt that the fans, even the majority of the fans, could do better than Ubisoft in this regard.
Lord Corribus, your quite bearded marooned incarnation appears as a female on the battle map. I guess this is because Valeska is the prototype. Otherwise nice job with creating the immersion parts with the food, bows, etc.

Yeah I know - don't know how that silly little detail made it past beta testing.  I would have fixed it in one of the updates but figured that it would have messed up all the scripting and Fnord wasn't around at that point to do the fixes.

Don't worry, he's not a transvestite by design.

(Ashan Only)
Isabela?
Anton?
Freyda?
Slava?
Godric?

I know which one I would chose. and that would be Godric.
I think He should be a inspiration how to make a good Heaven protagoist and not to repete the I/A disapointments

Gameplay : 4/10
I'm bored to death. I just played the scenarios until the second of all scenarios (using the 'proper' order), and then, play no more. Each game was narrowed into battle and battle, and each battle was a repetition of same actions. I already ranted about it somewhere

I agree with the scenarions, then again i bet this turns out to be quite a treasure for hotseats or maybe internet games, exspecialy when
these bugs are fixed. Cant stand the scenarion voice actors on h6.

H3 will never die, it will stay fresh generations, thats the true heroes might & magic (heroes + army were important),
the musics made for that game was made with love.

H4 was best, just because it was the black sheep, it kept the Heroes from Heroes3 well most known ones i think. H4 also had more stragetic thinking involved in internet games, map making was great. Most trained heroes were the key to victory in this game.

Heroes 6 trys to be slightly better than Heroes 5, but im dissapointed in both, heroes 3 / 4 are the ones. Unless Ubisoft starts to listen oldtimers the next versions will be just duplicates to these two.

Overall 7 / 10 from this. Best thing was to find Moander ingame lol
Also nice add that you can convert different towns into your own faction, kinda hoped that would had showed upped at somepoint.

None, they all suck. Godric and Slava are tolerable but not likeable. The rest are failures.

Catherine from H3, who is mediocre at best and the least likeable of all H3 protagonists, is unfortunately my favorite "Haven" protagonist.

Although you don't get to actually play as her in RoE, you just play as her generals. And in AB, she sucks as much as the rest of them.

So yeah, screw Haven protagonists, no one is any good.
