Necropolis : The most imbalanced race ever ? - HOMM 2-6

While Heroes has always been a game based alot on luck and randomness, there is nothing that come close to Necropolis.

While the race itself is appealing, its main mechanics totally depends on the map and the stack available.

The more stack of small creature there are, the strongest Necropolis are.

The problem is that on large - xxl map on heroes 2-5, necro is way too overpowered.

The ability to farm neutral with Vampire so easily, the fact that in Heroes 3 you get Heroes with Skeleton boost (Thant Galthran and so on etc..) and the Vampire -again !- conversion in Heroes 4 is way over the top.

In Heroes 6 at the moment, Necro is not OP, but beyond OP - broken.

Let's tell in order of Balance:

Heroes 2 - Necro very strong - but Map dependant
Heroes 3 - Necro banned - but Map dependant
Heroes 4 - Necro banned - any map
Heroes 5 - Necro strong - balanced game though
Heroes 6 - Necro banned - any map

I can say clearly, that Necro has never been balanced. It's a random faction that can be very bad on small map and very few neutrals though.
Necro, simply put, is the epitome of i-m-b-a-l-a-n-c-e.

not rain down on your parade but all 3 factions with Retribution aura will murder necro. that and proper corpse blocking and necro is slaughtered.

Also on homm V base version granted necro was powerfull but in ToE they got nerfed into oblivion with the necro points

I know this is a few months old but dont forget in heroes 3 theres the combination artifact for necros. 3 artifacts (Amulet of the Undertaker (neck), Vampire's Cowl (shoulders), Dead Man's Boots (feet).) that on their own give a 30% bonus to the necro skill but combine those and get 30% of battlefield dead are resurrected as Skeletons. If hero already has the Necromancy skill, then the percentages are added and skill level determines what will be resurrected: Basic - Zombies, Advanced - Wights, Expert - Liches.

Ive played one map where I ended up with a few thousand liches, I think it was "Vikings!"

With Thant, any map is good. Because your skeletons NEVER die.

So on a side note, why do you all hate necros? I personally love killing a lvl7 stack in 1 hit with my hundreds of skeletons.

In H5, Necro is only average. Other than that, probably true.

In h5 necro is fastest creeper, but thats the only thing about them. Lategame situation:
Dungeon owns Necro.
Haven owns Necro.
Sylvan owns Necro.
Dwarfs RAPE Necro.
Adademy owns Necro.
Only Inferno and Orcs will have problems ( becouse of dark) but they will still beat necro.

Necros alternative skeleton upgrade is overpowered tho, as compensation for nerfed numbers.

I think Necropolis not very strong. Conflux,Castle,Dungeon are more strong than Necropolis. Generally all towns have 1 or 2 (or rarely more) below average unit. Necro has 3 worst unit this is very big handicap. Especially very weak lvl7. That's bad.

You are very vulnerable till vampire lords. You are vulnerable  Also this unit is pretty weak against conflux.

Most imbalanced races are i think conflux and castle. Both towns are very strong.

All castle unit's are very strong. Castle has not weak unit all units are strong.

Castle should be banned in multiplayer games.

In Heroes IV nature has additional unit growth too. And barbarians +50%. Order has additional money. So ballance is a bit better...

Question could be: Is the Necromancy skill OP? At any Heroes game L-XL map they do have advantage. After H5 necro nerf patch, they stopped being the deadly force they used to be. Online wise this was a must change for necro, unless it would be easy Ban. Unfortunate this killed "all the fun" for me to enjoy the fanction anymore.

Mass of Skeletons, Vampires whit Life Drain/No Retal, Liches whit Dead Cloud attack and all units immune to mind spells whit class undead. What more could you ask for, if you can't win em' join them in afterlife.

Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force.

The problem is the skill itself. Necromancy has some unique effect (like diplomacy) and it makes it really hard to balance. It's either too weak or OP, depends on circumstances.

Well, there was not much to be done. I still remember facing 20k skeleton archers on one map. So it can be quite tough, at times. That way things got balanced.

But here's an idea - what if you can raise skeletons (or whatever creatures there are), but they are sent to your town, so you can only pick them up later?

That for sure would kill all the fun of necro plus there are several questions: what to do when necro hero is played by other faction and player doesn't have any necro town? What to do if garrison is full? Should it use always the initial town or the closest one?

I find Necropolis strong but not unmanageable in H3 but when it comes to H4 then it does not matter if the skill is allowed or not, those vampires are simply out of control. I guess count Dracula clothes makes them twice as good.

Is banninng Necropolis in small-medum maps really necessary? How common is this?
