Heroes 6 Expansions

*Note: I know the creatures down there are not so original (who cares I really want to see old favourites make it into the game as we already have many new original ones, I want the old back!)

I was thinking the other day maybe the reason Ubisoft did not design the town screens is because they are considering to add more core and elite creature dwellings in the expansion! To me that makes perfect sense considering that they designed the game in such a way that creatures are grouped based on tiers, so this allows adding more creatures to different tiers in the expansion, whereas if all faction creatures have different tiers like in previous game, they cannot add level 2.5 and level 3.5 creatures, see what I mean?

So maybe they are waiting for the decision of whether to add alternate upgrades or 1 creature to core and elite for each faction, otherwise if they designed the town screens already it would be hard to fit the new creature dwellings, makes perfect sense to me! They just won't reveal such a thing.

I think it would be nice if they added 1 core and 1 elite per faction, but whether heroes can still only build 3/4 core and 3/4 elite dwellings or they can build all and heroes only carry 7 slots instead of 9, or heroes can even carry 9 would remain to be seen.


Examples:
- Core
- Elite

Haven

- Pikemen (melee 2 squares distant attacker same as heroes 4 and perhaps always retaliate before attacker)

- Ballista (well they do need a shooter and it's hard to have monks when you got too much healing already and sisters)
Mechanical, can attack castle walls, benefits from siegemaster upgrades

Necro

- Skeleton Guard (melee): Undead, Skeletal, Shield (like human but only the one that reduces ranged damage for allies)

- Death Knight (melee): Undead, Dark Affinity, Terror (chance to cast terror on attack), Aura of Fear (enemies in surrounding squares have their positive
morale reversed and if it were neutral, it is  reduced by 1)

Inferno

- Imp (melee): Demon, Channeling (same as heroes III), Sneak Attack (can teleport to a target enemy and attack them for a cost of 10 hero mana, rechargable ability)

- Ifreet (flyer/caster): Demon, Fire Shield, Fire affinity, Burning Determination, Firebolt
or
- Incubus: Demon, Petrifying attack (shooter with earth-based attack that has a chance to cast Petrify, much like Disciples II but non-aoe and deals damage), Deafening scream (melee range shout that deals minor damage to all nearby enemies and has a chance to petrify them)

Sanctuary

- Ice Elf (ranged-physical): water+air resistance, ice-piercing (benefit from ice-breaker without breaking the ice), elven synergy (morale and defense bonus next to hypos)

- Hyppogryph (bluish gray flying creature a bit similar to a griffin and associated with Ice elves): vicious, the hypo's attack cripples the damage of its targets and reduces their resistance to water damage, elven synergy: when standing within a 3x3 area from elves, hypos gain more damage and speed)

* now I know why they make lots of dragons, there's some lack of non-spirit flying creature ideas out there!

Stronghold

- Wolf Rider (melee): Orc (rider), Wolf Howl (increases morale and speed of allied troops, decreases morale and speed of enemy troops), wolf bite (anytime before the rider is attacked, the enemy is bitten by the wolf for 50% damage, in addition to the rider's sword retaliation)

- Thunderbird (same as heroes III with additional lightning resistance)


Missing Races (Conflux is not a race)

- Fortress (Swamp)

- Tower (I like this name more than Academy and I like snow theme way more than the desert, but donno if that is feasible considering the Naga have many ice-themed creatures, snow suits them more IMO because it gives the feeling of intelligence and the study of magic in cold isolation)

- Dungeon (fine if they are dark elf but bring some nice creatures back to them like the evil eye)

- Rampart

- Dwarves (not much attachement to these guys obviously) and if let's say there are 2 expansions and 2 races will be added per expansion, I would very much prefer if they add the swamp fortress over the dwarves.

Possible Creature Lineups (hopes for SOME of these):

Tower:

- Gremlin, Gargoyle (H3 style), Golem, Halberdier (well why don't they have basic foot soldiers? There are human mages among them, so they do need human guards too as golems are mindless)
- Mage, Genie, frost troll (with regeneration, skyrim anyone?), Spellbreaker (w3-inspired change their name, anti-magic melee warrior; the mages are good at magic so they must also be good at countering it)
- Titan

Dungeon:

- Trogolodytes, Evil eyes (h4 abilities), Assasin, Blood Maiden (different skills than in h5 to make them different from harpies)
- Minotaur, Manticore, Shadow Witch, Faceless Warrior
- Black Dragon

Rampart:

- Woof Elf, Pixie, Halfling (weak shooter good against champion units), bladedancer
- Druid (caster/shooter), Unicorn, Pegasus, Dendroid/Treant (heroes 3 design)
- Green Dragon

Fortress (Swamp):

- Gnoll, Lizardmen (shooter), dragon fly, lizard warrior (melee soldier)
- Gorgon (redesigned, not a cow creature lol), Wyvern (h3-like), bassilisk, carnivorous plant (shooter much like king's bounty the legend)
- Hydra

Dwarves are boring but oh well chances are we will be seeing them again.

Poll: Fortress should be Dwarves or Swamp?

Poll: Bring back more classic creatures or design more new ones?

Poll: Tower should be Desert-themed or Snow-themed?

Poll (heroes 7): 2D (with 3D designs for zooming in during combat like Street Fighter 4), or 3D. I'd go for 2D with focus on art style like h3 instead of heavy 3D graphics like h5 and h6.

The second part is perfectly well understable, imo. (except the 2.5/3.5 thing). For the first one, and the second paragraph: it wouldn't be a reason for no town screens!!!!! they could make town screens now and alternate them later. I think it was laziness, or one of their "good" new ideas. but alas...

nice idea. why no second champion, though? I think, with champions, you can be really creative on units or as well use many mighty creatures of mythology...

now for your creatures.

-Pikemen: fine, I think.
-Ballista: Never liked ballista as unit...and do they NEED a shooter? They have crossbowmen...
-Skeleton Guard...another skeleton? There allready is one...I think they could do other nice undead cores.
-Death Knight: Allways nice to have em back. The aura of fear is a bit mighty...
- Imp...a classic, as you said, not original. but ok. Like the Sneak attack!!!
-Ifreet...hmmm, the H3&4 classic. unsure.
-Incubus...when sucuuus is allready in? NEVER! That would be as bad as female centaurs...oh, wait honestly: I would not like Incubus+succubus
-Ice Elf...on itself a nice idea, but...another water-ice based crea?
-Hyppogriff...now that would be kinda nice I think.
-Wolf Rider. A nice classic!
-Thunderbird. also fine. Fits well, imo.

Now for the missing races.
If I were to play H6 (still not sure I ever will unless someone gifts me it), I think these can be fine. Also I still think a swamp fortress, at least with lizardman, can get too close to sanctuary.

...3 of them cores are fine. The helbardier I'd like to see replaced by some other creatures. Tigers, maybe, or another animated one (flying scimitars/Polearms/armour/whatever)?!
...the elites...mage&genie fine classics. Frost Troll...academy is sitll desert based ain't it? if one likes it, or not...maybe make it stone troll. Spellbreaker...I don't think it fitting. How about Nomad, Spellblade or soem unit on a flying carpet? or an elephant... As long as it's not Rakshasa!!!
...Titan is fine a schampion^^

Dungeon:
...Trogs and Evil Eyes are fine. Assassin is okay, though I hate Assassins as core, normally. Blood Maidens... ... ... GET WARHAMMER OUT OF HEROES!!! I don't like it. alternative ideas: Spiders, Snakes, Salamanders and other creepy creatures. Or a creative Dark Elf, if you want one. Or some unexpected race...gnome sliving underground? some beastmen?
...Elite is fine and well
...as the black dragon...

Rampart:
...core...all fine except bladedance. stay to one core elf, please! do another forest race or an animal. Maybe also satyr/Faun?
...Elite...druid&Dendroid are fine. For unicorn&Pegasus: stay with ONE of these, they are too close!!! I'm not sure, are there allready wyverns in H6? If not, they can replace pegasus. Or some other forest being or mythological nature-creature.
...green Dragon is...ok.

Fortress (Swamp):
...core is fine except the 2 lizardman. Make it more creative, especially as Nagas are also there!!! Some swampy muddy creature. Or A wisp. there are many options
...a bit scaley again. wyvern is fien (if not replacing pegasus), carnivorous plant...please not like in H4!!! Gorgon...not sure. Basilisk is fine.
...Hydra is the obvious choice =)

They are only if they are done like in H5! Make them less racial (which is sadly ot so probable in H6) and they can be great.
ideas on lineup, considering yours:

Core:
-Defender (just obvious) OR Miner (with undermining, mine-laying or similar ability)
-Boar (H2-memories come back ) OR Boar Rider (wouldn't find it so great) OR Hawk/Eagle Rider (With a gnome, not dwarf, on the back!)
-Skinshifter (A dwarf or human with capability to transform into an animal. can be done in various ways. could maybe also be Elite) OR Grizzly (not with boar, preferably) OR Runic Armour (An armour without a perosn in it, animated by runes)
-Gray Elf/Shadow Elf (Neutral Elven allies of the Dwarves, with some hideous ability) OR Rune Priest (if it shall be core) OR one of the remaining not chosen units.

Elite:
-Rune Priest (if elite. Could also be mounted on something maybe!) OR
-Frost Giant (A bit Like Thane, but more icy. Could also be jsut giant and Frost Giant the upgrade) OR Yeti (not too different)
-Roc (If hawk rider was not chosen, preferably!!!) OR some runic device (Similar to dragon golem, but maybe weaker. CAN also be a flyer or Shooter) OR Boar/Goat Chariot (or a different chariot)
-Fenris (A giant wolf. not if Grizzly or skinshifter were chosen) OR Valkyrie (bringing a bit mystic, as well as women, into this. Some ability dealing with the fallen) OR Einherjar (mystical, strong, immaterial fallen fighters)

Champion:
-Red Dragon OR Dragon Golem OR Crystal Dragon
-Colossus (A mass of stones & minerals formed into an almos thumanoid shape by runic magic) OR Earth Worm (it is really Huge!!!) OR Magmar Lord (a mighty Elemental Being of Fire and Earth)

2nd Champion Suggestions for the other factions.

Haven:
Dragon Rider OR Light Dragon

Necropolis:
Bone/Zombie/Ghost Dragon/Giant OR Reaper

Inferno:
Archdemon OR Devil OR Planescraper OR Fallen Angel

Sanctuary:
Quezacoatl ( abit clos eto thundrbird maybe) OR Enlightened (very strong caster)

Stronghold:
Terrorsaurus (?some T-Rex. storywise a lizard from the dark elves, enhanced with demon blood) OR Behemoth

Rampart:
I'd prefer Treant/Dendroid, but you put it into elite, so...faery Dragon? OR soem mighty spirit... or a half-Dragon

Tower:
Sphinx (maybe a bit close to Lamassu) OR Ancient Mage (incredibly stronger than other mages) OR Vessel (a mighty entity in a human body)

Fortress(Swamp):
Leviathan? OR some fouly stinky big plaguebringing monster

Dungeon:
Some big Shadow mosher!

Depends. Make it fitting and good. Don'T seek to invent new ones, which are bad, when you have great classics. Don't stop yourself from doing great additions, though.

ehm. I don't care so much. But I'd love a more realistic style (by which I mean no great graphics but an uncomical drawing style) again, like in H3 or H4. Mainly, the gameplay shouldn't suffer for big changes in graphics and the fluidity of the game shouldn't suffer because of high graphics which make your pc run the game slower...

OVerall: some very nice ideas here
I hope my reply is helpful. ...and also, I'D like to invite you to the creational game in this altar. We allways wish for creative new minds =) And we are trying to create a vision of an HoMM game together, it's quite fun.

I think that the Sentinel/Praetorian line has already represented the Pikeman/Halberdier line, because both of them wield spear.  It is pretty easy for Ubisoft to increase the attack range of the existing Sentinels/Praetorians in the upcoming expansions, so that these fighters can improve their in-game performance suitable with their physical appearance more than ever.

Yeah there are a lot of ideas to improve HOMM while staying faithful to the roots of the game.

I agree with you that it's not a very good execuse for "no town screens", but let's hope that it exists and played a part!

I like your ideas as well, but I think we can still add a swamp-based fortress that is still very different from the nagas, who only have two snake features (coral priestess tails, kenshi tails and maybe faces, oh and the kirin does resemble a chinese dragon). Other than that they are pretty much amphibian/fish based, but as for swamp fortress the associated colors are dark green and brown so this gives them a very distinctive feature from the water-based naga.

Fortress (swamp) spell schools I guess can be like Stronghold, who doesn't want them defense-themed like in h3? But make their racial special something different from Sanctuary for sure.

OR if you want them closer to heroes 3, then they should be:

- water, earth, light, dark, and prime

minus fire & air

Nagas:

- water, earth, light, air, and prime

So you can say the major difference between Swamp Fortress and Nagas is Dark vs Air, and they are similar in that they don't wield Fire.


- Their racial-special gauge can be filled up whenever an allied creature performs a 'defend' command, and maybe it would allow a friendly creature to gain an extra turn with various bonuses (and instantly at higher levels).

Think about it, it would be nice if they are designed such that some creatures have to defend certain key ones, or you can throw a hydra into the enemy line and keep defending with it (or vs neutral monsters), this way you can benefit from defending to give the key creatures more turns with your racial ability, effectively creating a strategy centered around the "Defend" button. Hey maybe Hydras have an ability that allows them to attack anything that passes by them if they defend for 50% damage per square. Hydras cover 12 squares! Or attack one for 100% damage, it has to be tested to be balanced properly.

- I am not sure about having 2 champions, shouldn't there  be one and only champion unit per faction, otherwise what's the point of calling them champions? I thought about it that way, but if we wish to bypass this, yeah there can be more than one "champion" unit per faction, and I'd bring back the archdevil (h3 design) and the bone dragon (h4 strength ^^), there's always the hope for behemoths to return as alt. champion for Stronghold, and Naga can have Levathian it's a really nice idea, but Haven? Light Dragon sounds good! Can't think of anything more fitting; however, that way we would have 4 light-based creatures: Seraph, glory, sunrider, light dragon and they'd have 2 flyers for champion, hmm.

- You said Haven already have Crossbowmen, but they are only 1 shooter, if you disable them somehow or strike them with a deadly blow, Haven loses all ranged power. That is easily doable considering they are core units with lower hp.


- Btw Ice Elves are not amphibian, they are just elves associated with the terrain and their attack is physical, not water-based. Sanctuary does not have a ranged physical attacker. I think their ability is a very good incentive to make that ice-breaker ability way, creating a deadly synergy with ice-bolt.

- I agree with removing any Warhammer influence I guess, so their designs must be really different.

- I am not sure about the elves, if there should be only hunters and druids, but concerning Unicorns and Pegassi, in H3 you feel they look good together with centaur as 3 white-colored horse-based creatures, so I guess it's not a concern as they look more fitting together that way.

- I am thinking about starting those polls as seperate threads, so that if we got enough attention, Ubisoft might consider our ideas, what do you think?

I really like your idea about having extra creatures for expansions!! It would be really cool and interesting to think about choosing between 3 creatures to have A final 2 . the development team should hear about this idea .
