WoG doesn't install

WoG doesn't install. After clicking "OK" everything just disappears. I used official tutorial from:
Quote:
http://www.maps4heroes.com/heroes3/in_the_wake_of_gods.php
Yet it doesn't work. Proof ->

And before you ask - I did a computer restart.

I also did my homework and used search function before posting. Proof ->

I tried setting the compatibility to win xp sp 2 + administrator mode = no effect.

So, how do I install it? Or if impossible, how to install VMCI without WoG ?

From notes for Win7 users:
Quote:

HINT FOR WINDOWS-7 USERS: CHANGE LANGUAGE TO ENGLISH

1) Run Registry Editor (regedit.exe) ie. by Click Start –> Run and then type regedit and finally press “Enter”
2) Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\MUI\UILanguages\xx-YY
where xx-YY is the original system user interface language locale string. For eg: it will be “en-US” for English US edition.
3) Rename the xx-YY to aa-BB, where aa-BB is the locale string for the new system language that you want to set. For eg: you can set it to “de-DE” for German).
The registry key should look like below: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\MUI\UILanguages\aa-BB
4) Inside the renamed aa-BB registry key, create a new Stringvalue in the right pane, and name the new value data as DefaultFallback.
5) Assign the DefaultFallback with value of xx-YY (i.e. the original language).

Taken from this instaler: Link. I suggest you to use this one, because it has a newer files with more possibilities. These aren't the newest files (they are floating around the forum somewhere) but this version is working fine. Eventually I'll update the files and pack them into one archive.

My system was in english right after installation, so I didn't have to change this. But even though - I checked - there was a folder en-US there.

That installation link you gave me was just some wrapper AROUND WoG - during the installation there was the part where it wanted to install WoG - and a normal typical purple WoG installer appeared - which disappeared right after I clicked OK. The outside installator went through as if everything was ok. But it wasn't. It doesn't work at all now.

We are sorry that WoG installer is such a crap, but there's no other. No one distributes WoG files freely, as they need to be embedded within original game archives.
Sometimes you just need to run installation few times, battling language settings at same time. But finally it should work

Are you sure that the English you choose is 'right' (US) English?

Well, we could upload already installed WoG, but there will be copyright issues with H3 behind. Russians have such links, but they have no conscience

I hate the WoG installer with prejudice; could never get it to operate without tweaking something obscure in the Control Panel, and even then it was horrible.

Provided we stay within legality, I'm all for any means of updating the method of installation. It shouldn't be an ordeal for people to start playing the mod.

Well, it's possible to "install" WoG by unpacking *.wog files and placing them in proper places. I guess it can even be automated with batch files. Annoying, but doable task.

I vaguely remember that there was updated (or was that older version?) of installer, but I couldn't find it anywhere..

Thank you for all the replies. At least now I know that it is possible to search for already embedded wog files.

As far as a 'correct' english goes. I checked the settings - there is nothing better than what I have now. I have few other languages installed (that might be the reason) but I installed them later and they never been used aside some japanese-only-required games.

The problem is not the wog installer, I made it 1 million times without problem on XP, but the new operating systems, Vista, WIN7. Installer is 9 years old, what would expect.

Nobody is going to update it, it is heavy and tedious task.

I just downloaded the game with WoG already installed. Funny, coz I have original version from many years ago.

I installed VCMI and I was nicely surprised at the beginning. The character moves so fluently ! OMG ! But then - so many errors. No quick fights. Many buttons don't work. Many sounds are missing. Trade UI is messed up like hell. It crashed 3 times in 10 minutes so I give up.

Thanks.
Since last release only three bugs were reported and you already mentioned more, so please report them in bugtracker.

And no, there are no quick fights.
